I'm trying to buy a solid wireless router sold in US. I can look for ones sold in my country, but all the cheaper ones in this country are really cheap and does not support open-sourced firmwares, and the imported ones are ridiculously expensive.

Price range is in between $80-120 in places like Amazon.com. Need a long-range 2.4Ghz connection, 5.0Ghz is a nice addition, don't really need 802.11ac. I just want to know in general, rather than certain model, as to which brand is famous, popular and offers solid products.

Well... I have a LINKSYS WRT54gl. It cost me almost $100 through my college book store.

I finished my college classes so I slapped Tomato on it. I assume it would also work with DD-WRT.

My really old Linksys was a tank, but I finally had to get a new one and had nothing but problems with it. A few people recommended Asus and it has been great. A little more pricy, but has worked great.

Around the time that this site was created I posted a thread asking the same question and I was doing a lot of research online. I came to the conclusion based on user reviews online that there is not 1 router worth buying in existence. Good luck.

Asus routers seem like the only ones that have almost unequivocally good reviews, but are waaaaaay to pricey for me. Agree with Zack too, rest of the brands always have bad reviews with reports saying that it broke after a year. Buffalo routers seem to be the least concerned with this though, are they any good?

Great, with people constantly comparing Buffalo's N300/N600(WZR-300HP/WZR-600DHP) to fabulous WRT54G, that's encouraging.

Was going with the Linksys WRT1900AC but heard it didn't have Multi-MIMO support but the Asus RT-AC68U did and a few other nice things :) Am replacing a D-Link DGL 4500 Gamer Lounge.

Asus ones seem pretty good. After I bought a used Netgear WNDR4300v3 which broke down after a month (what a shame) I switched to TP-Link WDR4300 just because of the price, and I must say I am somewhat discontented. While the processing power must be pretty good, it's the signals that are way worse than I expected. I cannot pay anymore to a router right now, but if I have to buy one, I'd go with $120+ Asus one.

Whatever you do, Do not buy a Berkin Router they are probably the worst. I have one and I hate it

The Linksys EA6900 is a safe bet to go with, its a little pricey here in the UK don't know what it is in the US though.....

Supports all frequencies a/b/g/n/ac and has a very good wireless range on it. Since Linksys is just a branch of Cisco you can't go wrong because Cisco are the networking gods. Can't really say anything about opensource firmware other than that I wouldn't bother because it would cause more problems than fix and Cisco are normally very good with providing lasting support with their products.

Edit:
If the EA6900 is out of you price range OP look for a lower priced Linksys instead.
