The First Surface Gaming Laptop

Over at theprimegaming.com, a leaked chart showcases all the specs we should expect from the ‘Surface Gaming Laptop’.

Display:

The screen features a 16-inch Pixelsense Flow display, showing that touch screen is yet again included along with a refresh rate that can go as high as 165Hz. The screen resolution is rated at 2560×1440 (1440p) coupled with Dolby Vision support.

CPU & GPU:

The ‘Surface Gaming Laptop’ is not just a single device, rather it is a lineup. Shipping with i5 and i7 Alder Lake CPUs, expect top-of-the-line performance. The i5 variants are treated with NVIDIA’s RTX 3050 Ti GPU (4GB G6), whereas the higher-end i7 doubles down on the gaming experience being paired with the RTX 3070 Ti (8GB).

Software

Microsoft is offering the Windows 11 Home OS with the Surface Gaming Laptop. Being aimed at gamers, a 1 month trial for the Xbox Ultimate Game Pass will be provided to users for free. Looking to game while still working? Fear not, for Microsoft gives another free trial for its Microsoft 365 software package (1 month).

Chargers & Battery

The out of the box experience grants you with the Surface Gaming Laptop (As Expected) and a 102W charger for the i5 variants or a 127W charger if you opt for the i7 counterpart.

The laptop offers a 16 hour battery life for the i5 decreasing down to 15 hours for the i7 variant. Do remember, ‘typical device usage’ does not equate to high-end gaming, so expect your battery to tank massively if you do happen to game on this device.

Storage

Arriving in multiple choices, the storage department ranges from 256GB2TB of SSD (removable) storage. The pricing will vary depending upon your liking.

It's a leak so no price, however Microsoft will be having a Surface event on the 22nd of September so it's likely this may be announced officially there with price.
There is also a weaker I5 3050Ti configuration.

Considering the build Quality of Surface products this will be a real treat, finally a Surface Book with some backbone for gaming.

1440p display instead of 4K I'm a bit mixed on but 1440p is still a great display especially if the surface tech is behind it. 165hz, 32GB of RAM, and a 3070TI is pretty good.

What's more is it comes with a 1 month trial of Xbox Game Pass, and a 30 day 365 trial if you care about that. The Xbox app is already pre-installed. Hopefully they don't add anything else but that to avoid bloating the hardware and OS. The 3070Ti had 8GB of GDDR6 memory. 16 hours of battery life is more than I was expecting.

The one issue I have is that Surface books and even the Surface Laptops, while well run and great in built-quality, are costly, and while rumors are suggesting that this gaming Surface Book will be competitive in price, I have a feeling it may be costly in the end.

The lower end i5 3050Ti model would have to cost less than $900 to stand a chance, and nothing more than $1200 for the i7 3070TI 32GB build.
