"Xbox outsold PS4 for one week in the UK after multiple price drops, giving away FIFA for free in bundles, and exclusive FIFA content. In a market where the 360 dominated the PS3 last gen."

And Xbox was the fastest selling console in November 2013 in the US.:D
Point being?

Amazon Sept 2014 end of month

6 PS4 Destiny bundle
11 PS4
28 Xbox Kinectless
85 Vita

PS4 and Xbox exclusives

21 Last of Us Remastered
29 Bloodborne Collector's Edition
57 Halo Collection
71 Forza Horizon 2

Xbox sales moved up from ~50 to 28, and Halo Collection had strong pre-orders. Horizon 2 debuting at 71 is decent. 200k Xbox sold seems reasonable.

PS4 sales are through the roof with the Destiny bundle. PS4 Destiny bundle is now 33 in the 2014 top 100, that's a LOT of sales for one month and 5 days. I'm guessing ~450k Destiny bundles and ~150k regular PS4s. 600k+ still seems reasonable.

Amazon Oct 2014 first 5 days

8 PS4
13 Destiny PS4 Bundle
31 Xbox Kinectless

PS4 and Xbox exclusives

53 Driveclub
57 Halo Collection
61 Forza Horizon 2
63 Last of Us Remastered
72 Bloodborne Collector's Edition

October PS4 sales are down a bit from September. Now 8 and 13 instead of 6 and 11. PS4 sold 170-200k with a single SKU near the top, now there's two SKUs near the top. Unless the Destiny bundle plummets, PS4 should sell ~300k in Oct.

Driveclub broke into the top 100 although it might slide down after launch later in the month.

Xbox is holding onto its ~30'th place. I'm guessing around 200k again. Halo Collection is an obvious big holiday seller, and Horizon 2 looks set for decent sales.

Overall there's no question PS4 is winning yet another NPD in October with two SKUs near the top 10, but Xbox is doing better than before.

If PS4 keeps up the momentum with both SKUs, Xbox has very little chance of taking Nov or Dec NPD.

Would be interesting with DriveClub to see if sales go up after launch due to the free version for PS+ users. I imagine a lot of people trying that out before paying.

I care mnore about good game doing well than which console sold more. Hopefully, FH2 will sell well with the rave reviews its getting.

Halo MCC has been in the top 100 for a while, DC passing it doesn't mean much because it hasn't been in the top 100 for very long.

Amazon's monthly ratings aren't affected by previous months' ranks.

Ah ok I don't check it by month I just look at the top 100, like right now the MCC is at [HASHTAG]#25[/HASHTAG] but is on a downward trend while neither FH2 or DC are even in the top 100 at all.

Can see Driveclub selling better than Horizon 2 really. Also I have not recognised much momentum for the XB1 in the UK, anecdotally of course but I always know more people buying a PS4. In fact I don't know a single person who has actually bought an Xbox One, which is crazy.

Dare say Sony will combine the PSN+ download's with sales for DC so we might not know how well it actually sells.

The mixed reviews might hurt it.

Oct 2014 PS4/Xbox top 100:
8 PS4
17 PS4 Destiny
31 Xbox Kinectless
43 Halo Collection
65 Last of Us Remastered
58 Driveclub
77 Forza Horizon 2

Not good opening placings for either racer (FH2 was 71 in Sept top 100). They're both out of the hourly top 100 by now. This shows racing is still a niche genre and mostly used for console war fodder. Sunset and LBP3 won't make much of a sales impact either according to the numbers.

The heavy hitting games this holiday are Destiny, Halo Collection, Smash Bros Wii U, GTA, CoD, AC, Farcry, Dragon Age, and sports games. Halo is not likely to make up for PS4 being the console of multiplatform choice this holiday.

VGChartz estimates for Sept 2014
Global: PS4 1242k, XB1 678k, Wii U 221k
USA: PS4 405.8k, XB1 247.2k, Wii U 82.5k

According to VGC, Xbox had larger global sales this month by launching in 29 new markets including China. PS4's launch in China should be significant, 300-400k imo. The global sales gap widened by another ~550k despite the tier 2 launches.

Imo VGC is undertracking PS4 in the USA. Destiny hit 33 in the 2014 top 100 in a single month of sales, that's at least ~400k units alone, plus normal PS4 sales. Sept NPD is this thursday.

The only thing that could hurt MCC sales are terrible reviews. Anyone wish to hang their hat on that?

MCC will sell a lot of copies, I just don't think it'll move hardware in a meaningful way. Then again it'll be hard to prove one way or the other because it's releasing in November and that's going to be an "up" month anyway.

I think Halo: Master Chief Collection is going to be big for the Xbox One. I can see console sales really taking off.

If it were Halo 5 I could see it moving consoles, this is just a bunch of old games people have already played a million times.

It's a full remaster of Halo 2. That's enough without even mentioning the other games. You know, the game that started competitive multiplayer on consoles and made Xbox Live what it is today? I'd bet money it moves some consoles.

Microsoft are going to need to have damn strong end to this year as they have literally nothing coming out exclusive wise for the first couple of months next year.

Xbox One fans continue to act like PS3 fans and PS4 fans continue to act like 360 fans circa 2006-2007.

So what you're saying is that Xbox One is just hitting it's stride? Sounds awesome.

Yep. 100% Agree. I think the Sunset Overdrive bundle will do well though (for reasons outside of the game itself).

We'll see. COD is the biggest multiplatform game out of the bunch and according to the same stats you posted, the Xbox One version of the game is a few places higher than the PS4 version.

There will be a ton of Xbox 360 users moving to current gen this holiday season. This group loves Halo and COD and the Xbox One having both (both games as well as exclusive marketing) will definitely help. Think things are going to very greatly depend on how good the deals are for both systems.

Halo MCC may not be that enticing if there will be better deals for the PS4. Halo MCC + better deals for the XB1 over the PS4 though? That would definitely make things pretty close in my opinion. Just depends on what MS has planned.

So, launching in those 29 other countries didn't help Xbox much.

Still almost 2 to 1.

How so?

like "the last of us"/4?

The Last of Us didn't move a ton of hardware either, slight boost but the game sold well on it's own. I also wouldn't compare them directly anyway at least when it comes to expectations as far as moving hardware. One is basically a box set of several old titles and is releasing during the busy holiday season and another was a remaster of what many sites considered 2013's game of the year but came out at a time of year when there wasn't much competition nor any other reason to jump start console sales.

Which aligns with what most people were saying... that tier 2 markets don't matter as significantly as others thought it did. I remember people attributing the sales gap to the number of countries selling the Xbox one vs the PS4, namely some Xbox fans...

By the looks of it, the sales gap is widening in favour of PS4, just as the game quality and OS feature gaps are widening in favour of X1.

I won't name the games involved, but both systems released a game recently that involves driving something with four wheels.

At least your first part seems more plausible.
