Glad to see we're keeping Sony/PS4 out of this...

Vallance has a legitimate question about the low ratings of the game I referenced. I explained to him that Ryse is a better game that Buku Sudoku, and why it is metacritic rated the way it is. There is nothing disputable about what I said. All the facts are there for anyone wishing to look them up. The facts being what that are, it is impossible to not talk about who's and why's.

If it was my intent to bring up that company, I would ask where their Press Release announcing that they met their sales targets for CY 2013. Because they had a great chance to bring that up, but they didn't.

Ryse deserved what it got which was in the mid 6s. Spot on IMO. I think it has massive potential to be a great series for MS, but they need to improve the gameplay and story.

Though I am not sure about bribes I think the industry and the more hardcore "gamers" have become jaded. That's why I tend not to consider myself a gamer anymore and more casual I guess. I may have almost all the systems but things like 1080p natively and other things doesn't matter to me anymore. For me if is fun I like it. Pretty simple.

No it is rated bad because of Sony's bribes. I checked, every last one of the red reviews on metacritic received a 3 day stay at a 4 star hotel, a free monogrammed personalized PS4, and all the launch games all for free, from Sony. How did I check you may ask? If you click through to each and every ones twitter account, you will see that 100% of them mention being at the Sony payola event.

In that it is certainly a better game than every other game that received a 60% on metacritic, for example Boku Sudoku, I submit that the Sony "gifts" to these reviewers undisputably had an impact.

Im curious, when a player is caught point shaving in professional sports, how do you feel about that? Is that ethical conduct?

Wanna call me paranoid? Adam Sessler has the EXACT SAME PROBLEM with the Sony mass media bribing event.

So it be clear is was SONY that was a jealous hater of Ryse, and thats why they paid the media to give it low ratings. Ryse is the why Sony decided to focus on resolution in their media brocade rather than how the games look, because Ryse looks better than not only any PS4 game, but any PC game out there (at the moment).

lmao.

You know it out scores Sony's Knack?

p.s. Just so I'm clear -- Ryse got bad reviews because Sony paid off the reviewers? lol. wow.

So The X1 and the PS4 both sale half a mill each week in 2013, not bad. No big difference. Yet you would think that the 4 is dominating if you watch other threads

Hate to bust a lot of bubbles, but each sold about half million a week in the given timeframe. Both use 2013

It's a meaningless debate when one is available in 13 countries and the other is available in 50+. If someone was able to show a comparison of units sold in countries that BOTH consoles have released in, that would be a more realistic comparison.

Maybe it's more telling that Sony only has a 1 million units lead despite being released in 4 times as many countries...

xbox 13 countries 3 million
average of 230000 per country
ps4 at least 50-60 countries 4.2 million
average of 84000 per country

xbox still to launch in other countries

No. The PS4 was out one week longer than the Xbox one and sold 1.2 million more units. And Sony used Dec 28 and MS used Dec 31.

In other words, it took Sony three more days to sell 1.2 million MORE units than their competition. How can you possibly come up with the same average per week David?

If Sony only launched in 13 countries they'd simply redirect those consoles sold in the other 37 countries to one of those 13.

Jeeze Louese, Im staying off multi platform threads. Try to make one point and people start throwing insults around, not this one the sale number on the 4. Some people are frigging flat out rude.

Some of you are too easily baited into making this a vs thread...It's mind boggling! If you're an avid hater of X1, just stay in your lane ffs! You're more intelligent than this..it's like watching children fight over others' toys.

They should be able to make a point though, just like I was in the 4 sale thread. We don't want to have "group think" If all we ever hear is the X1 is awesome then we will never know if it can be improved.

In the nations where both are on sales, PS4 either sold better, or sold out, that is contrast to XBOX one which have ample supplies almost everywhere (except maybe USA, but I heard xbox is plentiful also).

In the Nations where xbox is not launch. When XBOX finally launch, many people who wanted a next gen console would have got a PS4.

The reality is if MS do not act fast, to launch XBOX one in other nations, as well as improve sales in the nations that it has launched, they will fall further behind.

Whatever their plans, but its time for action soon. Not saying Sony should not act, but they can breathe a little easier.

But I will wait a little longer before declaring console gaming is still as strong as ever. We need to see if the momentum of these consoles can substance for a longer time, but things are positive.

Average per week sales (by my calculation, anyhow):

PS4 670,000 per week
X1 540,000 per week

If you want me to show my math, I figured 5.7 weeks for MS and 6.3 weeks for PS4.* 3.1 mil / 5.7 wks = 0.54/wk. 4.2 mil / 6.3 wks = 0.67/wk..

* If you really want me to show my math, that's 5 full weeks for MS, plus 2 days (0.3 wks) for the Friday and Saturday after their launch, plus 3 days (0.4 wks) added for the period of 12/28 to 12/31). 6 full weeks for PS4, plus 2 days (0.3 weeks) for the Friday and Saturday following their launch.

"The only thing dead is the wii u, may it resurrected in the proper third place"
Wii U was done after last Xmas when it launched. It never caught fire despite a reasonable $300-350 price. Wii U's can be had for $250-300 now, and even has a new Mario 3D World game out, yet hasn't come close to replicating Wii from 2006, nor has the hype or sales of X1 or PS4 despite those systems being $100-200 more.

Nintendo will milk its handheld sales and profits to counter the laggard of its Wii U. Nintendo gambled they could do another round of super casual fare for Wii U in hopes its fans would buy it again. Nope.

A shame too because Ninty is huge and has the money to go head to head with whatever techno whiz gadget Sony and MS released. It's not like their situation is like Sega back in the day struggling with money and decided to throw in the towel. But Nintendo decided to cheap out for Wii U and it's hurt them in the console war. But their handhelds are still rocking so no worries.

With 2013 finally over and X1 is at "over 3M"... maybe call it 3.1 or 3.2M and PS4 at 4.2M, the ways people can slice and dice it will be fun...... see here....

http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/1...nits-in-2013-beating-the-xbox-one-comfortably

.... By # of days, by week, or perhaps by country. Here's a by country calculation....

X1 = ~3.1M / 13 countries = 238k each on avg
PS4 = 4.2M / 48 countries = 88k each on avg

I knew you'd find a way for X1 to be out in front. Factor in Luxembourg.

So.. the *actual* metrics are 6.7:5.4 ....

Finally we have closure!!!!! :D

Consolewarz must be on suicide watch
He's disappeared lately. Not surprising as MS' 3M sales is pretty good. not as good as PS4, but still pretty solid considering all the negative hoopla they got for most of 2013 and $500 price X1 has.

He also disappeared a month ago when PV posted the X1 sold 2M in 18 days thread.

He then came back with his magic math and made up a claim that PS4 sold 3M at that time so the ratio is 3:2.... a far cry from the 3:1 and 4:1 ratios and his recent 2:1 articles.

However, I'm surprised he hasn't posted a lot lately rubbing it in as Sony did beat X1 selling 1M or so more. Hard to track his posts as he made his profile settings private after Bunz did some digging of his old posts, and he didn't make them public after I asked him to.

With PS4 at 4.2M (from 48 countries) and X1 (from 13 countries) at let's say 3.1M (MS said "over 3M"), the ratio is even lower at about 4:3. No doubt, I think everyone estimated PS4 would outsell X1. Never mind the price or PR. Just the fact it's been selling in about 30 more countries alone is all I need to know. They might be small scale countries, but adding up 30 extra countries will add up over time.

Looking back, the math is hilarious.

Assuming 4:1 ratio was correct:
- PS4 would be 12.4M, X1 at 3.1M or,
- PS4 at 4.2M, X1 would be 1M

Assuming 3:1 ratio was correct:
- PS4 would be 9.3M, X1 at 3.1M or,
- PS4 at 4.2M, X1 would be 1.4M

Assuming 2:1 ratio was correct:
- PS4 would be 6.2M, X1 at 3.1M or,
- PS4 at 4.2M, X1 would be 2.1M

Assuming 3:2 ratio was correct:
- PS4 would be 4.7M, X1 at 3.1M or,
- PS4 at 4.2M, X1 would be 2.8M

The correct ratio is more like:
- PS4 4.2M : X1 3.1M = 1.35:1

Anderson, your math forgot to factor in number of countries. Sony launched in the same 13 as MS did, but has 35 more countries (assuming Extremetech's article is correct at 48 for PS4), so a more accurate measurement would be digging for the sales of these 13 countries for both and then doing your timeline math on a 13 country vs 13 country basis.

;) :)
