I'm glad Judgment placed. Yakuza games don't do well in the west. I'm sure it won't be a big seller, but at least it doesn't look like it'll tank. I'm just half an hour into the game myself. It feels very similar to Yakuza so far, although with different characters of course.

I heard Xbox hardware sales were down 48% relative to last year. That's according to MS earnings report for last quarter. A lot of MS divisions were up, but games were down 10%, and hardware sales down 48% y-o-y, I believe.

  8. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (172,065)

Any word on how the all digital Xbox One has sold?
Seems it was released and that was it.

This is the first year where I have purchased more games digitally over the physical disc counterpart. A trend I see continuing.

I never thought it would happen since I’m such a creature of habit. But as time went on I couldn’t overlook the benefit of convenience.

Gamepass must be really cutting into gears sales, that or it's just not that popular in the UK anymore. Either way it's hard to see how GP is going to be profitable though, I only spent $2 for a two month trial to play the game and I won't be renewing to the service once the two month trial runs out, I'm sure a lot of other people did the same thing.

Gears 5 isn’t off to a good start at retail in the UK. Launch sales recorded by ukie track the game in second place for the week, with numbers hitting just a quarter of what Gears 4 achieved in the same amount of time. Meanwhile, Borderlands 3 absolutely smashed it, recording the biggest physical launch of 2019 so far.

In its first week, Gears of War 3 sold 20x more packaged units than Gears 5 and Gears of War 4 sold 4.5x.

the whole point is that when you go and get that GP the players will see other games that they can download under that service. The days of using Physical copies are over and it is useless. There is a new way to generate money and Microsoft has the key.

Who would buy it when you can pay $2 for gamepass

And how does that make money long term, basically though microtransactions being forced into everything right? eventually these $1 trials are going to have to stop, hell I had a membership before and they still let me do the $2 trial. They always talk about how many subs they have but do they ever separate out how many are paying full price? This would have been a game that generally brought in hundreds of millions of dollars on it's own, I doubt they make the money back they spent on it this way unless people who subscribed go crazy over buying skins or something down the road.

They are going to have to change the pricing structure at some point or 1st party stuff is going to all be more AA than AAA unless they build all of their future titles around microtransactions. They've talked about focusing more on games as a service in the past, that's the only way something like GP makes sense financially.

^someone seems to forget that game sales have INCREASED thanks to Game Pass. There is an online record of 3 developers stating this, and MS has stated this in February of 2019.

Also, that $2 is limited by account. If you go to Resetera, people have already talked about how their promo has ended and they are being charged the normal amount and have NOT been able to renew at the $2. Granted, some are creating new accounts and signing up again, but those people are in the extreme minority and of course you have to have an all new gamertag. <--that is not the norm.

So of all the games that have been in gamepass only 3 devs have said it increased sales.
