Is it me or MS looks better in this spot.
X1 sold in 13 countries vs PS4 in 40 countries.

Only to Sony to sell a million more with far more countries? That no impressive in a way.

Dont get me wrong Sony did very well.
Doesn't matter, at least for a year. I actually think its a tie, though it was pointed out to me I had the 4 release date wrong by a week. Still something tells me that it will be just like last Gen at the end between these 2 it will be a tie. The wild card is Nintendo, I'm starting to wonder if they will put out a new console a lot sooner than expected, and just write off the U console as a loss.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Sony up by another million by end of January.

I'd be surprised if they aren't by end of February.

It'll be interesting to see what the sales figures are once supply has caught up to the demand.

Yikes, poor Nintendo. They need to get more western influence in there.

It's just you. Both would probably sell out every console they made regardless of the country. We know the PS4 is harder to find than the Xbox One in general so that probably means 1) there is more demand, therefore we see the 1.1 million difference in sales or 2) Sony was able to manufacture more consoles than MS therefore even if both sold out, Sony still came out on top by 1.1 million. Unless someone could give me another case scenario, I think these two are the most plausible reasons for what we see in the sales as of the end of 2013.

Sony predicted they would sell 5 million PS4s by March 2014. They should surpass that. MS predicted they would sell 7 million X1s by end of June 2014. They should surpass that, especially with Titanfall around the corner and the fact they have only launched in 13 countries so they still have a lot of the world left to ship. Looks like both companies are winning their own personal battles.

He's disappeared lately. Not surprising as MS' 3M sales is pretty good. not as good as PS4, but still pretty solid considering all the negative hoopla they got for most of 2013 and $500 price X1 has.

He also disappeared a month ago when PV posted the X1 sold 2M in 18 days thread.

He then came back with his magic math and made up a claim that PS4 sold 3M at that time so the ratio is 3:2.... a far cry from the 3:1 and 4:1 ratios and his recent 2:1 articles.

However, I'm surprised he hasn't posted a lot lately rubbing it in as Sony did beat X1 selling 1M or so more. Hard to track his posts as he made his profile settings private after Bunz did some digging of his old posts, and he didn't make them public after I asked him to.

With PS4 at 4.2M (from 48 countries) and X1 (from 13 countries) at let's say 3.1M (MS said "over 3M"), the ratio is even lower at about 4:3. No doubt, I think everyone estimated PS4 would outsell X1. Never mind the price or PR. Just the fact it's been selling in about 30 more countries alone is all I need to know. They might be small scale countries, but adding up 30 extra countries will add up over time.

Looking back, the math is hilarious.

Assuming 4:1 ratio was correct:
- PS4 would be 12.4M, X1 at 3.1M or,
- PS4 at 4.2M, X1 would be 1M

Assuming 3:1 ratio was correct:
- PS4 would be 9.3M, X1 at 3.1M or,
- PS4 at 4.2M, X1 would be 1.4M

Assuming 2:1 ratio was correct:
- PS4 would be 6.2M, X1 at 3.1M or,
- PS4 at 4.2M, X1 would be 2.1M

Assuming 3:2 ratio was correct:
- PS4 would be 4.7M, X1 at 3.1M or,
- PS4 at 4.2M, X1 would be 2.8M

The correct ratio is more like:
- PS4 4.2M : X1 3.1M = 1.35:1

Astrograd disagrees yo

As long as MS is hitting their own points, they will be all smiles. Right now the next mark is 7 million units out the door by end of June 2014. They could very well surpass that considering there is still a lot of the world left to launch and then you have Titanfall, which will be the first big exclusive system selling title for the next gen consoles coming out in a few months. Either way, selling 3+ million units in just 5 weeks is pretty amazing.

You could be right. But right now, MS face the danger of being too late when they shipped to other nations, not helped by the lack of news when XBOX will be available. When there is only one console choice available, the decision is easy.

I need to take it easy? You are the one responding to everyone's posts trying trying to discredit Sony's sales data and twist the sales number. I'm just keeping you honest.

No matter which way you look at it, the PS4 sold better, you can try to look at averages by country but it doesn't change anything. I personally think the Xbox One has better games and will through 2014, but the PS4 IS selling better.

I know it's just a sample, but at all of the Best Buys in the entire 40 mile radius of Chicago, the Xbox One is in stock according to the online availability page and has been since I checked during mid-December. It's also available online there. On the other hand, the PS4 isn't available anywhere I've seen in that radius. I know it's not definitive, but the console stock situation at the Best Buys (possibly the 2nd or 3rd largest console retailer in the western world) in the Chicagoland area (one of the largest metropolitan areas in the western world) is a very telling sign.

This is very true. I just checked Best Buy for stock and everywhere in my area has XB1's, but no PS4s. You can even conveniently order an XB1 on Amazon and get it the very next day.

a billion potential untapped LEGAL game console market.
and before someone posts PC, no I'm not including that!

Chinese CEO: China To Get Xbox One In Late 2014
http://kotaku.com/china-to-get-xbox-one-in-late-2014-says-some-chinese-ce-1484000666

China, the land where game consoles are currently still in a quasi-banned state, the console wars pretty much haven't started yet. Gray market imports of both PlayStation 4s and Xbox Ones are slowly trickling in, but it seems that, after all, the scales might tip in Microsoft's favour.P

According to an article published by one of China's largest tech sites Sohu IT, Luo Jiangchun, CEO of online video service Funshion, revealed that the Xbox One will be available in China in 2014 during a marketing and advertising strategy meeting last week . Luo stressed that for 2014, Funshion will work on the Chinese version of the Xbox One. He also said that the company will also be ready to take on more video games-related advertisers.P

So, what gives Luo the authority to say such a thing? Well, Luo's company, an online on-demand video service much like Hulu and NetFlix, is majority owned by Chinese IPTV provider BesTV. Yes, that's the same BesTV that Microsoft launched a joint-venture with this past September.

Well, China have potiential to be a major market. If so, I do not see Sony letting MS have the market for themselves. The Chinese may have something against the Japanese, but they are more tolerable if they sell the PS4 cheaper like everywhere else (except of course Brazil).

I agree but Microsoft already has an agreement with them
and will be shipping Xbox ones later this year
sony likes to brag, if they had a deal with china I am sure they would shout it from the rooftops

No worries. Now that sales numbers are out for both consoles, we need a thread where we can talk about the comparisons. Your post just served as the jumping-off point.

......... Into the depths of metrics hell..... :)

Winning from all ends...because a shared market is a healthy market.

I'm enjoying my Wii U more than my PS4 at the moment. Although that could be because I have plenty of game backlog to catch up on...

The number aren't near as wide as some of the ps4 fanboys on this site predicted. I wonder what will happen if TitanfALL IS everything people think it will be.

Well seeing as Titanfall is going to be available on Xbox 360 that takes MUCH sails (get it?) from the Xbox One version or the idea that millions upon millions will shell out $500 to play it.

I have a nagging feeling that the 360 version of TF will be a shell of the game the X1/PC version is, but of course the average consumer would probably not even know that.

Number of countries sold in right now doesn't really matter. What matters is the supply that's released to the public. So, if PS4 only released a bit over 4 million to 40 countries or had it released 4 million to only 13 countries, that would still be.....a bit over 4 million.

MS shipped more units to less countries while Sony shipped less units to more countries.

Both MS and Sony have posted impressive numbers.
