Of course with the 1st ever console on the go they would focus on showing this a lot in the video.

I'm just pointing out the actual content of the ad runs counter to the idea that the Switch is first and foremost a home console. It is a hybrid and was clearly marketed that way. Even Nintendo's own stats say it's used about 50/50 each way.

20% isn't close to its largest market

Right, Japan isn't equivalent to the North American market, but it is roughly tied with Europe for second place, so it's a big part of the pie for them.

plus while i agree the Japanese enjoy its portables we can't say all of that 20% are portable luving gamers which makes that % even smaller.

Sure, not every single Japanese Switch owner is using their Switch primarily as a portable. But most are.

The only reason I picked Japan is because it's so obvious there. But there are plenty of (mostly younger) people in other parts of the world who game mostly on portable/handheld units. They would be attracted to the Switch.

Still think Nintendo primary console loyalists are the biggest buyers of the Switch.

I agree, and I'd just add that "Nintendo loyalists" also includes the 3DS crowd, that is, people who love portable/handheld gaming. I think the Switch has appealed to a lot of them. I also think it has great appeal to the casual, family friendly crowd, the kind of people who are going to buy it in droves for Christmas.

The X and the Pro are much more powerful than the Switch and yet....Switch does in fact outsell them.

The Xbox is outsold often by the Switch and at times so is the PS4.

Both of the launch consoles been available way longer than the Switch but we can't say switch is mainly bought as a secondary console because it doesn't lose much(if at all) to the Xbox which has been available longer.

You can go on and on but you have zero proof that people aren't choosing switch as a main console nor have you shown proof people won't choose switch/pro/new Nintendo console as a main console over PS5/XBV.

Continue if you must
Seems like common sense to say most aren't buying Switch as a main. The reason it seems like common sense is because of poor 3rd party support, which means most folk are buying for exclusives...and likely main a PS, XB, or PC.

Early NPD (US) reports (leaks) suggest that the Nintendo Switch not only was the best selling console in December, but outsold both PS4 and Xbox One combined!

‘Benji’ (reputable sales insider) predicts #NintendoSwitch sold over 2 mil units, X1 around 1 mil & PS4 less than 1 mil.

I believe Switch did well and could of won as it has b4 but the rest of that is LOL worthy.

PS4 was the best selling console in the UK in 2018.
https://comicbook.com/gaming/2019/01/05/ps4-2018-best-selling-console-uk/

While the Nintendo Switch saw a 20 percent increase in sales in the UK last year, it wasn't enough to dethrone the PS4, which was the highest-selling console in the region for the calendar year

The information comes way of GamesIndustry, who reveals that actually the system sold more in the UK in 2018 than 2017, and in the process sold over one million units. Not bad for a system that released all the way back in 2013.

Behind the PlayStation 4 is Xbox One, which despite making many good moves in 2018 (albeit not in the game department like PS4 did), couldn't pass its main competitor. Not far behind the Xbox One was the Nintendo Switch.

Collectively, the systems sold 2.5 million units in the UK last year, which is higher than the number of consoles that sold in 2017.

As for the UK retail game sales all together, 770 million pounds was generated, with revenue down 2.8 percent year-on-year. As for games specifically, 22 million sold last year, which was down 7.1 percent. Only the Nintendo Switch increased its software sales (90.1 percent increase in sales, 73.4 increase in revenue).

I trust used car salesmen & a broken clock more than 'experts', 'movie critics' these days.

UK charts will be updated this week to include digital sales.

Fifa No.1 in the physical chart

So the Switch was 2018's best selling console and is likely to repeat in 19....

It's the newest machine too so you should expect it to be doing better as it hasn't reached it's saturation point yet, the fact that the PS4 and to a lesser extent the X1 are still doing as well as they are at this age without better pricing is really impressive. Where was switch the best selling console in 2018? Not in the UK so was it a global thing? North America? I know Japan was referenced but again it's a new machine vs older ones.

One thing Nintendo has a problem with is they seem to flop at least every other console, that's an issue Sony hasn't had even though they seemed to try pretty hard to do that with the PS3. The N64 was a borderline flop as was the gamecube, the Wii went crazy then the WiiU failed, the switch is doing well now but it still needs to prove it has longevity. This isn't the record of a company who has people buying their consoles as their main machine.
