It's not just Balatro, it was all the nominees that got a boost. More exposure from a popular game show is always good.
Why wouldn't they get boosted by the BIGGEST GAMING EVENT EVERY YEAR.
It was both the holidays and the public exposure that brought in significantly more sales. It's like how people would be more inclined to watch shows and movies that are critically reviewed and awarded.
Rivals is dominating numbers wise. Rise of the Eastern studios.
There is no question that the multiple outlets that have annual GOTY awards will contribute to additional sales of games.
Dragon Age has sold 1.5m. EA expected 3M at this point.. because it's ran by clueless clowns.
DA:I sold 12 million units lifetime. That's probably what they were comparing against.

Helldivers 2 being that high gives a good indication about the gap in sales from the top 2 games onwards.
