I don't think these executives realize that times are HARD right for basic necessities let alone luxury items like consoles and games. Alot of them are going to find out fast in September and October when they all release a bunch of $70 games at once and they all have less than stellar sales numbers.

October and November may have some positive numbers

It’ll be one pricey sale, console and game, at least 700usd after taxes for a digital variant of either, but one will have less storage space. Unless they go for something with even less storage, then it’ll be about 500usd

People that haven't upgraded yet will do so from the PS4 gen.

Perhaps, some indeed, or maybe some new people. But some may have already bought jumped in to this generation because foretold price hikes, fomo helps too

Sony showed that there's a huge chunk of last gen owners on PS4. Time to upgrade this Holiday :)

All these companies know times are tough for the average person but they don’t care as long as they’re making their profits.

A lot of room for it but how many can afford it? This is still just a hobby not a necessity. GTA will cause a bump for sure but once that dies down what's going to happen? it's hard to imagine any hardware maker having an exclusive that will move hardware at these prices right now. The announced Sony games that look good aren't going to increase sales significantly with prices being what they are, same with xbox.

I think GTA 6 is the last hurrah for consoles this gen. After that, it will probably be more difficult to grow the userbase anymore in the next 2 years. Then by that time the new consoles will be out.

True, about 50% many of which are still playing f2p. Sadly the time to upgrade was at the beginning of the generation. And I wonder how many people won’t switch if they’re good with the current state of gta online. Depending on what they show it might out some people off until the feature store could be matched or out do it in other aspects to get them to jump in

No real system seller this gen yet. But GTA 6 might be it as it's console exclusive at launch.

Sony will need to drop the price a lot of take advantage of GTA 6 bundles. The real question is will they drop it and by how much.

I think obviously GTA is going to do great numbers and boost the industry temporarily. But it wouldn't surprise me to hear of massive and significant layoffs from publishers and developers starting in Jan '27 that released games in Sept-Oct '26 window for their games not selling well or not reaching expected sales goals.
