That I don't believe that as Killzone SF alone was outselling those two games.
I smell BS now

Remember, this is NPD, this is only NA, and it's only for December. PS4 fans most likely bought their games the month they bought their PS4s. NA didn't have much PS4s to sell in the states in Dec....need to look at WW numbers and more than just one month.

Now it's more relevant to say that Xbox One is "still the fastest selling next gen console", since it sold more in the US than PS4 did in December.

December 2013 NPD highlights include:
• Total combined retail spend on the Xbox platform (Xbox One and Xbox 360) in December reached $1.39 billion...
50 percent of the combined software, hardware and accessories spend in the U.S.
(Source: NPD Group, December 2013).

• During the month of December:
Xbox One held six of the top 10 spots on the new generation console game title list: “Battlefield 4,” “Forza Motorsport 5,” “Dead Rising 3,” “Ryse: Son of Rome,” “Madden NFL 25” and “Call of Duty: Ghosts”
(Source: NPD Group, December 2013).

This is going to be a good race, ladies and gentlemen... still plenty of hard work to do for the rest of the world (and to maintain our momentum in the US), but no doubt - we're the fastest selling next gen console in the US.

It was only the fastest selling in the US for the month of dec only. Of the 2, it wasn't the fastest selling since release. Picking one month for just NA is cherry picking data.

Cherry picking data is what xbox fans have been doing for years. For years, xbox fans touted 360 selling better, even though PS3 was technically selling more per year based on the year it was released. And now, PS4 is still selling more, and more cherry picking by using one month from one territory.

One week difference LOL is NOT worth mentioning.
MS X1 advertisements I see all the time.
Well MS never did have good PR.
Who sold more since launch in the NPD?
4.2>3 I lost? lol

Who's misquoting me? You

doesn't that first week contain that 1M lead everyone is so quick to point out?

;)

Oops yeah you are correct I wasn't thinking of the NPD alone.

No, launch is launch. PS4s pretty much become very hard to find after day 1, and is still very hard to find. XB1s sold out, but stocked up fairly quick. Honestly, I'm surprised XB1 numbers aren't higher. Just image how high the numbers would be for PS4 is they had more in stock.

I think someone else here said it best. These numbers mean nothing until both consoles are readily available and well stocked everywhere. That will be the true indicator of who's selling better.

There are more PS4's sold in NA then X1's.

No cherry picking at all.

US: Number of units sold divided by number of days on the market - X1 wins.

No cherry-picking of data of any kind.

It's clear that Sony's doing a great job, and they deserve recognition for selling more world-wide, but in North America, X1 is still the fastest selling console, month over month. If that trend continues, then it's a meaningful metric, since N/A is the single largest market in the world.

...but I don't think it's worth arguing about. So X1's the fastest selling - big deal - the PS4 has sold more world-wide, and I don't think anyone would actually PREFER to sell less world-wide while being the fastest selling console in the worlds largest region...

So I don't know why your panties are in a bunch over it... no cherry picking at all.

well I stated that earlier... :p

there's too much unknown atm. both companies went with differing sales strategies tailored to their strongest markets and its obviously paying dividends for both...

key takeaway is that sales continue to exceed expectations, PS4 will see an obvious surge in Japan, and X1 should see a surge in March...

obviously all the early talk about 2:1 and 3+:1 "metrics" isn't holding true... If anything the race will continue to be close all year...

Sure, but:

Number of unit sold/number of days on the market: X1 wins... therefore, it's sales pace is higher. Therefore, it's the fastest selling console in NA.

Not that it's a big deal, and obviously it's preferable to have sold more units world-wide (which Sony did), but still - the fact of the matter is, X1's sales pace is higher than PS4's in the US. Not sure why it bothers some people here... it's just a fact.

Total sales....
PS4 in NA>X1 in NA
PS4 WW>X1 WW
Where is the X1 leading lol?

Not that hard is it?

November sales:
X1 > PS4 (daily average)
X1 < PS4 (overall)

December sales:
X1 > PS4 (overall)
X1 > PS4 (daily average)

Cumulative sales:
X1 > PS4 (daily average)
X1 < PS4 (overall)

Not hard is it?

Who has more total units?
I rest my case

Who has sold more per day (average)?
I rest mine.

As I've mentioned, of course, it's obviously preferable to have sold more total units AND be the fastest selling, but it's great that X1's managed to maintain the 'fastest selling' console award since launch in the US.

Who has ever argued PS4 isn't outselling X1? Pretty hard to go against Sony saying they sold 4.2M and MS saying they sold 3M.

So not sure why you keep trying to give the impression some people think otherwise.

I approve this post.

Both you guys are right. It all depends what metrics, timing, geographical locations or any other variable is used.

You never know. If eBay is willing to share data, a Commodore 64 might be the best selling console...... for that fraction of a minute where one 30 year old dusty C64 sold, while there were no X1s or PS4s sold at that very millisecond.

I find the Sony fans most defensive though.

Its impossible that X1 sold faster as the PS4 sold over 1 million in 24 hours in NA....X1 didn't.

So:

Xbox One = fastest selling console in US for 2013
Xbox One = Most software sold for a next gen console in in US for 2013
Xbox One = highest games attach-rate in US for 2013

The software sales are actually really telling. It means that (as people around here have been saying), X1's software library is better. People bought more games on Xbox One. That's actually really awesome.

"Fastest sales" refers to average daily sales, not momentary spike sales.

Therefore, Xbox One remains the fastest selling console in the US since the current gen launched. That's pretty cool.

And all done while getting trashed in PR, getting destroyed in a zillion internet polls, people believing the hourly X1 FUBAR article, costs $100 more and has Kinect 2 forced in the box.

Sony should consider themselves very lucky MS got muddled with many of these distractions.
