Wasn't too surprised by the numbers.. maybe a little. Wish Sony would just say what they sold. They tend to do that more than their competition.. "if we don't win, we spin."

Not that MS doesn't do spinning, but they usually also eventually release the data.

the thing that bothers a numbers fiend friend of mine about Sony is that they "lump" the lagging hardware together. Like Vita/PSP rather than saying Vita sold 14k and PSP 2k the say combined sales.

Their call, and perfectly fine IMO, but it drives him nuts.

Yeah they did the same thing with the PS3/PS2.. when everyone was "rumoring" that the PS3 had passed up the Xbox 360, Sony stopped releasing PS3 numbers.

Seemed patently obvious to me that they hadn't actually passed up the 360.. since every company ever, and especially Sony, would have announced such a distinction.

Made for an annoying/hilarious year with VaLLiancE. Between that ridiculous analyst report, and the VGChartz data that was just outright wrong... VGChartz STILL hasn't correct that. lol

Qbert - why does it bother you so much when people make claims about NPD numbers when they don't specifically mention NPD/NA?

Just let it go, man. Obviously when people talk about Sony selling the most or the fastest, they're generally referring to WW. Obviously, when people talk about Xbox One's success, they're generally referring to US/NA/NPD, since that's the ONLY region I know of where it's doing better in many regards.

Again, I'd vote for a separate thread (one for WW, another for NA), but until we get that - let it go, man. Not everyone is going to properly preface every statement as you'd like, and I think it's pretty unreasonable of you to *demand* it as you are... or to mock other posts because they didn't specifically call it out.

Fair enough?

Another thread would be great. It's just a pet peeve of mine when people are not fully clear (whether intentionl or not intentional).

And it goes all ways. I even rag on Val when he's not be totally clear or honest. It has nothing to do with xbox vs ps. I'm not going to sit here and pretend that some posters don't do it with intent to make it sound like one platform is doing better than an other.

Oh....and I let it go. Past few posts of mine were related to certain people claiming some of us said XB1 wouldn't sell well......lol.

Remember when Astro said Nintendo was done because the 3DS was going to fail thanks to smartphones and tablets? Good times.

WTF! Why is everyone so surprised about it? Last month Nov NPD, I thought we (I said many times) all agreed that the X1 will outsell the PS4 in the month of December due to availability. How do you expect the PS4 to compete with the X1 in the month of Dec when there aint no PS4s in store shelves for buyers to purchase easily? Looks like MS had the upperhand on Sony in stuffing retailers with more X1s than PS4s this holidays.

Games, games, games! Based on PS4 at 2M and X1 at 1.8 console sales Nov/Dec in NPD. I knew it. Just like 360, X1 will have a higher attach ratio. Considering how much lower software sales are for PS4 despite all the hype and it's sold out status, I expect lots of returns in January as many of the console sales were surely eBay and CL flippers.

Tie ratios/total software:
PS4 retail - 4.2M units - tie ratio 2.10
XB1 retail - 4.8M units - tie ratio 2.64
XB1 retail + digital - tie ratio 2.9 - 5.3M units

Yeah I agreed. I expect a lot of resellers/buyers to return their X1 this January and pick up a PS4 instead. But I doubt it. PS4 is still hard to come by. MS just got lucky during a chosen time frame when the PS4 can't be bought. Let's wait a few months later when PS4s are available to buy everywhere and then we will have an idea which consoles will come on top.

3 rd year in a row nintendo posts a loss. time to quit with this casual bulls*** and go back to the drawing board.

vall let it go it is selling better then the 360 & ps3 @ launch last gen and still owns NA.

Pretty crazy IMO @ the higher price point but people must love a great "brand" no matter the price...:hehe:
I am not dissing it at all....What I said was true.
I think the X1 has done EXCEPTIONAL for its price and in comparison to the XB/XB 360.
Mad props to MS for turning it around the way they did.
But to say it sold as well as the PS4 wouldn't be honest.
Both are selling at a amazing pace fits better.

Some people here could for Sony with the spin going on.

Both are doing great while the Wii U dies a little more.

No kidding.

But it makes sense. If PS4 was beating X1 in games and 3:1 ratios, they'd be all saying "told you so". But it's not even close to that. So foot in mouth, egg on face, "damn it, why? why? why?". You name it. And notice how all those old "PS4 winning 3:1 and 4:1" threads and market research polls all disappeared.

At the end of the day, it really comes down to PS4 selling 4.2M across about 50 countries. X1 is at 3M from 13 countries. X1 has also sold more software too despite being 1.2M consoles behind which says a lot.

Looking at their situations, they both have advantages and disadvantages.

PS4 is cheaper and across more countries to garner excitement, while X1 launches are TBD. But X1 is showing higher quality games and focused stock on 13 countries so these 13 have more stock to go around.

Two different strategies. I'm sure MS could have spread their stock thin across more countries too. While Sony could have copied MS and focus on a smaller number of countries.

Nah, MS needed to concentrate on US since it's supposed to be their market and they knew Christmas would help bring them sales. They were successful and was able to narrow the gap but PS4 is still in the lead in the US and the world by more than a million. We'll see if MS can narrow it even further or even take the lead in the US this month but that will depend on whether Sony can get their supply levels to exceed the demand otherwise they will again reach a bottleneck in regards to sales performance.

Xbox One was able to sell more games probably because they had more exclusives that was targeted towards the adolescent to young adult audience while PS4 only really had Killzone since Knack didn't really appeal to the 20 year old+ gamers but I agree, US loves their Xbox.

360 destroyed and Wii U....well

I really think Sony should have supplied NA more.. but maybe if they get huge amounts on the market right around Infamous Second Son's release that'll be good for them.

Otherwise they COULD lose some momentum.

You can say the same about MS for not releasing XBOX one in more locations.

Poor Vita. Did someone key the wrong sales number.

Especially with TF coming out soon.

I dunno I see it could go the other way as Christmas time is over...selling a $500 console now could be tuff and as I predicted the gap could widen.

Hey I might be helping the X1 sales if I buy one :)

I just think those markets are so much smaller.. and less in tune with the crazy marketing/Christmas sales NA market where so many companies do upwards of 70-90% of their business.

US followed by the UK are by far THE most important Christmas time markets. They also buy more games and accessories.. just bigger consumers in general.

And for MS those are markets that may not have been very successful for them in the first place.

How about this. Show me even one person on this forum who was predicting a 3:1 sales ratio, especially this early on in the game. Because you keep repeating this over and over again and sound delusional.

What's there to spin? The reality is PS4 is in first place and already has a lead of over 1 million worldwide and almost 200K in NA after only a month and a half.
