It is anecdotal, and I won't dispute that. But are you honestly going to sit there and tell me that non-forum goers weren't aware of news that multiplat games may be better on PS4?

Xbox fans can't have it both ways. They can't claim Titanfall will be the next best thing in gaming because everyone is aware of it, yet claim not many people were aware that PS4 had the better hardware.

In any case, I said I could be very very wrong.

I know you aren't talking about me, but I certainly don't think everyone is aware of Titanfall. But it has had some forms of delivery for awareness like appearing in X1 commercials while you don't see PS4 ads showing side-by-side screens of multiplats saying see the textures on that bush...buy PS4!

Word of mouth is going to deliver awareness on both counts and forum dwellers are a minor participant of what console is going to sell more. It's far easier for kids to deliver the message of "this new robot mech game is the bomb go get an Xbox One" than to try to explain why 1080p is so much more important than 900p.

I'm just trying to look at things outside my own small world and I think the bigger picture shows something different than you are suggesting.

Hasn't Gears and Halo sold more games then all of PS3 exclusives combined? Add titanfall to the exclusive heavy hitter list. People buy the consoles that the games they want are on.

The better hardware to these folks means very little to the masses. If it mattered last gen PS3 would have outsold 360 easily as the entire gen everyone knew of PS3 being more powerful in theory. You can say because of last gen those folks have learned it didn't mean much. The price gap is the biggest + the PS4 has over xb1 to these folks imo.

nobody is expecting too much as far as xb1 sales in Japan vs PS4 sales there. On the same note who do you feel will own the Chinese market?

Probably. Outside of CoD, Halo's a beast.

Xbox One might be first to China?

http://kotaku.com/china-to-get-xbox-one-in-late-2014-says-some-chinese-ce-1484000666

China, the land where game consoles are currently still in a quasi-banned state, the console wars pretty much haven't started yet. Gray market imports of both PlayStation 4s and Xbox Ones are slowly trickling in, but it seems that, after all, the scales might tip in Microsoft's favour.

According to an article published by one of China's largest tech sites Sohu IT, Luo Jiangchun, CEO of online video service Funshion, revealed that the Xbox One will be available in China in 2014 during a marketing and advertising strategy meeting last week . Luo stressed that for 2014, Funshion will work on the Chinese version of the Xbox One. He also said that the company will also be ready to take on more video games-related advertisers.

So, what gives Luo the authority to say such a thing? Well, Luo's company, an online on-demand video service much like Hulu and NetFlix, is majority owned by Chinese IPTV provider BesTV. Yes, that's the same BesTV that Microsoft launched a joint-venture with this past September.

Microsoft and BesTV have sunk a total of $79 million into the joint venture, which is based in the Shanghai Free Economic Zone. It's still unknown what fruit the partnership will bear, but in the same report by Sohu, there were rumors that Microsoft and BesTV were working on bringing over a watered-down version of the last-gen Xbox 360 to China. This China-fied 360 would have stronger online video capabilities and features while toning down the gaming aspects of the system.

China's had a semi-quasi ban on video game consoles since the year 2000. The ban was supposedly lifted earlier this year; however, we (mostly me) are skeptical the ban will be lifted completely as text within the government document detailing video games and video games culture in the Shanghai Free Economic Zone say that games will still be subject to the approval of relevant ministries before going on sale in China.

It will be interesting to see how a legitimate console will sell in China, same with Brazil in my opinion. They've lived off bootlegs so long, we'll see if they can wean off that habit.

360 sold software better, because everyone knew the games were better. 360 had a year head start, so obviously, no one was going to wait on the PS3.
However, once the ps3 came out, immediately it was seen how ahead the 360 was, and for pretty much the life of the 360, people more often than not, opted for the better versions of the game.

It's going to be similar now. Some people are going to opt for the better versions of a game (console versions).

If we don't want to admit that some people brought a PS4 to have the better version of games and brought it mostly for the price, then we'd have to admit that last gen, people mostly brought a 360 because of the price, not the better games (which, ironically enough, was what a lot of 360 fans were saying over at TXB for the longest....they wanted the better version of games for the money).

I bought the PS4 for better multiplatform games at launch and for their exclusives throughout the coming years.

The easiest console to mod will succeed in China.
But, like Korea, Chinese kids are into online PC gaming more than consoles. As a console market, it's a decent bit larger than Australia, but not anywhere near the size of Japan.

TF will change things. Halo will change things. Gears........will change things.:D

I know that before I even type this out how it's going to look to console peasants, but whatever...

Honest opinion incoming...

TF isn't exclusive and will, without a shadow of a doubt, perform better on "that other platform console fanboys don't count", Halo isn't as big as it was when the 360 launched (although I personally think it's a much better franchise than COD) and Gears... Well, without Cliffy B. I think the franchise will just continue to go downhill.

Didn't Halo 4 sell at a much faster rate than 3?

Halo is still massive.

No clue about sales and Halo still is a system seller, but it doesn't seem as popular as it was back in the Halo 2 days. Although that could just be the perception when compared to COD sales. /shrug

I think it sold at a faster rate, but didn't sell as much.

In context, Halo 3 came out in 2007, when there weren't even half of the amount of 360s in gamer's homes. Flash forward to 2013 when Halo 4 came out, you had more than double the amount of 360s in existance. You literally had more than double the amount of 360s, but the rate sold wasn't double.

"Faster" doesn't mean much when you look at all the variables.

That's what I'm thinking. It's easy for people to look at CoD sales and say "hey, game "x" isn't as popular anymore because they don't post CoD numbers".

Considering that by the time Halo 4 rolled around, there were so many shooters saturating the market....I'd say Halo is still beastly.

Halo might not be as popular as Call of Duty but it's definitely still a beast. I think the hardcore Halo fans are going to return for Halo 5. Especially if it's as good as Halo 3 was. That's probably still my favorite Halo multiplayer wise. Reach and Halo 4 were alright.

Xbox One and PS4....

I'm pretty sure the pecking order of typical console FPS sales per game is:

- CoD
- BF
- Halo
- Gears
- Killzone

Which version will sell the best though :hehe:

Speaking of sales, just a heads up that you can now buy brand new Xbox One's for below retail price. The going rate for a new Xbox One on eBay and Amazon is $470-$480 including shipping. If you are going to buy an Xbox One I wouldn't buy one at full retail price when they can be easily had for cheaper. Has a console ever been discounted this quickly in its lifetime?

Who knows.

But Target Canada is selling all PS4 games for $35. Has a console ever had launch games being dumped for almost half off so fast?

Edit: Actually, my mistake. Amazon was selling PS4 games buy 2 get 1 free at launch (basically 33% off). The system and games weren't even out yet but Amazon was already dumping games off at a big discount.

Even better, Target USA was "dumping" PS4 games for $33/each during launch week in November.
Makes sense. Nobody is buying the games, so places like Target and Amazon are trying to get rid of overstock. No wonder X1 has a higher attach ratio, and X1 has sold more games in NPD tracking despite selling fewer consoles.

So even with these nice game discounts, PS4 still sold less software in NPD.

- More PS4 consoles sold
- Larger game discounts
- $100 cheaper console so that leaves gamers with more money in their pocket to buy an extra game or two

And X1 still sold more software than PS4 in NPD. Go figure.

Better than trying to get rid of console overstock. No one is buying the more expensive weaker console with the less games to play, which is probably why the latest rumors point to MS already talking about a price drop. They don't have to drop the price though since sellers are doing that for them already.

BTW to the other posters, I don't really believe that "no one" is buying the Xbox One, I just like to play Intellivision's game. I guess if I really wanted to play the game better I could remove both my gamertag and PSN ID and pretend to be a gamer, and then come up with some fanboy sig like "PS4 the #1 console of endless praise!" and then become really, really bitter about "Xbox fans." I would be like the anti-Intellivision. :D

On second thought.....

Can't be selling too bad since it outsold PS4 in Dec despite being $100 more.

A more telling fact is that PS4 software sales are lousy. It's a cheaper console (leaving gamers more money to spend), the games are supposedly so much better, Amazon and Target are doing solid game deals at launch which no console has ever had, yet X1 still has a better software attach ratio.

Buy hey, thanks for the info about Target USA selling PS4 games for $33. Never knew that. You don't see new games being dumped for almost half off at launch.

Also, X1's $20 off deal is a drop in the bucket vs. Wii U's discounts which were $50 off right away, and Costco clearing out the white bundle for $100 off ($199.99). in early 2013.
