Scariest Movie Ever

Any scary movies I’ve seen that I wouldn’t watch again just suck. Never seen a great horror film that I wouldn’t watch again.

I think the idea of a Scary movie at this level is kind of an absurd idea that comes out of the nostalgia people have from legit being scared when they were kids. I feel that aiming for this with adult horror audiences causes the genre to stumble over itself. At most, this kind of movie can be honest with itself making a Fun Monster movie or Survival Horror which maybe plays into the popularity of the Zombie movies or shows.

That is not to say you can't 'Horrify' an adult audience; you need horror of substance. Ideas or situations that can make people kind of squirm or especially to be 'Disturbed' or unnerved.

I would suggest David Lynch's BLUE VELVET as an example of this. It's not exactly horror; maybe kind of suspense or fvcked up thiller. I think it's bizarre and fairly unpredictable with an extremely unstable antagonist.

Guess for the sake of this topic, I would suggest the remake of THE FLY. I did see that randomly when I shouldn't have probably about 14. I was good with most of it, but the final transformation is disgusting ahd kind of horrific mindfvck. Oddly enough though, over time since then I've become a huge fan of the director David Cronenberg.

Not sure I call this 'Scary' exactly but uncomfortable and disturbing and really effed up downer of an ending. It was worth seeing, but not sure I'd ever be motivated to see it again.

Not to spoil to much, but the antagonist plastic surgeon victimizes someone. It's psychological and medical abuse.

Think I’ve read about this, maybe in school. But doesn’t it kinda sorta go both ways?

What’s the scariest movie you’ve seen and it won’t ever watch again?

Watched Sinister and Insidious 1-3. They were good horror movies. My partner used to be scared of horror movies when I first met her now she is tolerant to them and doesn't get scared much at all anymore because of how much we watched lol.

You desensitized her, how dare you lol jk but say you, you still get scared of them or some?

A character is loosely connected to a tragedy that makes the doctor understandably upset. However, the doctor proceeds to act on this to a level that is insanely unreasonable. Eventually, the whole thing is only loosely about perceived revenge and a mix of making someone both a medical experiment subjuect and a kind of "toy".

😬

Actually I think I don't want to watch it again because the antagonist is so unbelievably Despicable

I saw Sinister in the theater on opening night, there were definitely a few scenes that had the packed theater screaming and jumping. The Ring is another movie I saw in the theater that I remember the audience audibly freaking out over.

I've had a fear of waking up with someone standing over me since I was a child, so the first Paranormal Activity movie is one of the few movies to ever give me nightmares and affect my sleep.

I watch horror movies all the time these days, so I feel pretty desensitived at this point. I find jump scares and really loud audio noise jumps annoying (being startled is not the same as being scared), and prefer a lot of older / classic horror films with great atmosphere and production because of it.

A few newer movies come close to this. The adaption of The MIST was a really decent try.

I enjoyed A Dark Song. Lots of drawing circles and glyphs and marking boundaries with salt. Like everywhere. Not gonna call this 'scary' exactly but dark mystery or suspense. Nice uneasy atmosphere dripping with the Occult.

A bit light on character and story, but I enjoyed it and I don't recall any cheap jump scares.

Love horror movies and Sinister was really good. The only movie I can think of as scary is Fire in the Sky mainly because I saw parts of it (abduction scene in particular) when I was probably too young lol.

I saw a similar thread once where everyone claimed ‘The 4th kind’ was the scariest, but I haven’t seen it.

If you’re talking about the alien movie with Milla Jovovich, I thought it was a decent rental I didn’t think it was that scary. Had a few cool moments.
