SEGA Dreamcast (Mini?)

Think I played the Crazy Taxi demo once at a store but otherwise never had it. Grew up a Nintendo fan and the only other Sega system I played was the Genesis as a friend had it.

They released a remastered ShenMue 2 on the OG Xbox. I think it even works on the 360. I'll have to check when I get home.

That music! So much WIN!!

Yes Shenmue IIX is BC with the 360 and works almost perfectly but not having the first on Xbox sucks.

It absolutely was a let down for the fps fans. The only thing missing from it imo...

Loved the DC, one of my favorite consoles. Played a ton of PSO, Alien front online was a blast. NFL 2K was breathtaking at launch. Also one of the three consoles I bought on launch day, the others being the GC and XB One(Sorry I probably cursed you).

So that Dreamcast fans can enjoy Dreamcast games once again but with HD video output and the ability to play games from the internal storage.

The new console should have a new but similar design, wifi, wireless controllers (4 maximum) 720p or 1080p HD upscaling and HDMI output, internal 500g Hard Drive and a GD-Rom drive.

The console should be able to play original Dreamcast GD-Roms and also have the ability to connect online to a Dreamcast Classics Store to purchase and download classic Dreamcast titles in digital form where it can be played directly from the Hard Drive.

This would also open up the opportunity for more indie developers and it would be very profitable for Sega.

By making the console made to order, there is less risk of financial loss.

I'd buy one for sure. Needs to be region free if it happens. I'm not holding my breath though.

That would be awesome. Even if it only played Dreamcast games with better quality. I'd buy it in a heartbeat for the right price.

My friend would lose it if this happens. Whenever me and my other buddies discuss gaming he always brings up Dreamcast and acts like he doesn't care about current gen gaming. Which sums up the Dreamcast really, people loved that console and hold onto past memories with it. It was a right time right place kind of thing that made it special. Looking back i think a lot of people regret not supporting it and causing Sega to close up shop.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say it's not going to happen.

I loved my Dreamcast, but why? Gaming has moved far beyond it, and there are probably ROMs for anything still worth playing.

What they need to do is make a tiny, cheap OG xbox player so I can play Rallysport Challenge 2 and Ninja Gaiden again...

Does this mean I can just burn games to a cd and pop them in the console still?

Or maybe it has USB3.0 support and I can just plug that into it and play whatever?

Dreamcast had an excellent SNES emulator btw. I'd love to see what indie devs would release there.

Also, kind of funny. But the general idea, and the fate of the idea; all in one thread title, it's almost poetic.

Ive still got a working Dreamcast in my attic, and much like the og xbox, I'll bee damned if I could fit em on my tv stand without the wife getting all stabby....

Dreamcast was the only console I ever bought at a midnight launch, I picked it up after an evening shift at Homebase. I think I got Power Stone, Sega Rally 2 and Sonic Adventures with it.

The Dreamcast sold terribly in the end so I don't think there is any nostalgia to cash in on outside of the hardcore Sega fans..

A better idea would be to make one of those cheap, licensed, multigame handhelds, like the Blaze/ATGames Megadrive/Genesis ones.

I don't know how feasible the emulation is on an ARM chip these days but the Dreamcast is 1998 tech.

The console detailed in the OP would be quite expensive due to a limited build run. Start up costs for molds, tooling and production time are especially costly for non mass produced products. Even the team behind the doomed RETRO console realised this.

Is it April 1st today?

I still have mine with tons of retail games and some of the others... Unless the thing was $100 and the games were $5 each, I couldn't justify owning one. It was one of my favorite consoles of all time and had more quality games that released on it in the shortest timeframe. I was buying a game almost every week for it. These days I'll be lucky to find a game that interests me once every 3 months, except for the holidays of course...

Same here. Even though I get nearly every system at launch, I usually just stroll in at whenever time of day and pick mine up. I only got Sonic Adventure with mine since all but 4 games weren't gonna be available till later in the day. I still have the FuncoLand t-shirt they gave away with it.

Seems pretty obvious from the wording that this is merely somebody who wishes it would happen, and not an actual plan from Sega. So no, Sega are not going to release a new Dreamcast.
