SEGA Dreamcast (Mini?)

Sega didn't burn the customers the competition was just 2 strong.
These rumors sound great but it would be even better if them and Nintendo merged imo.

MS wasn't even in the console space at the time. Now they are and took much of the Dreamcast people with them. Competition is also much fiercer. It's not about building a box. You need a OS, games, apps......Good luck to them though. If Sony was to big and bad at the time for them then not much has changed.

I agree the competition was too strong, I disagree that they didn't burn customers.

Dreamcast failed, Saturn failed, Genesis/Mega drive was a huge success. Between 1992 and 1995 they lost their minds, releasing Sega CD which was poorly supported and 32X which was even more poorly supported.

32X was released in Europe THE SAME YEAR that Saturn came out - 1995. It was a product that should never have come to market, six months later the Saturn came out (early surprise launch no less at 100 dollars more than the competition.)

Sega's downfall didn't start with Dreamcast or Saturn, it started with the add on hardware that saturated a market and made customers think that buying Sega hardware would mean crap software support and a short product life. The customer was right, Sega CD was dead in less than two years, 32X was DOA on arrival, Saturn had 2 - 3 years before software support was almost gone and Dreamcast was killed early.

I love Sega, but they were complete s***house at business and still are.

Guys, how could you not invest in this...

The gaming world would explode if the Dreamcast 2 happened. Either Nintendo or Microsoft would probably be out on their asses if Sega went all out. I truly believe Microsoft wouldn't have jumped in if there was three real competitors going at it. There's only so much pie to go around.

Sega didn't burn the customer.

Oh they did. They REALLY did at times.

And then they pissed off retailers as well. So many bad decisions that by the time the Dreamcast came out it didn't have a chance.

A new teaser site hints that SEGA may be developing a Dreamcast 2, and it may feature PC-grade hardware in a console form factor similar to Valve's Steam Machines.

SEGA has a dream. It wants to be back on top of the games industry, but to do that, it'll have to resurrect the console that nearly killed the company in the late '90s: the SEGA Dreamcast. Although the Dreamcast was a beloved fan-favorite and helped usher in a new age of gaming, the system was a commercial failure. Fans have been clamoring for a Dreamcast successor for quite some time, but the once-mighty Japanese games-maker hasn't made a move--that is until now. SEGA has opened up an official division called SEGA Interactive that will sell hardware, indicating that the Dreamcast 2 is indeed a reality. A new campaign called Project Dream points to the development of a Dreamcast 2, and the official website has a countdown timer that could lead to an official reveal. As for the Dreamcast 2's specs, the Project Dream page speculates that the system will be a PC/games console hybrid, and that it'll make use of x86 architecture while sporting a customized NVIDIA GTX 740 GPU, an Intel i5 4460 at 3.4GHz, and 8GB of DDR3 RAM to boot.

If they did [they wont] the best way to get instant interest? Steal the Shenmue III thunder and announce it as their exclusive with the first 2 re released as well.

That would get a lot of day one buyers.

Was Shenmue ever a profitable/big game? It had the hype factor, but wasn't it the "Water world" of video games?

What they need to do, is ditch Sonic, and put Ulala in every game. Literally, every game. Make it a requirement to have a game on their system!

Imagine playing the new Farcry, with dinosaurs and s***, and then all of a sudden, there's Ulala dancing her heart out with a machette!

Or playing Ass Creed, and and Ulala is like, trying to get you to sing karaoke while launching accross buildings!

Or playing FFXV, and Ulala is on tour with the boy band.

Yu revealed a little while back that Sega made their money back. The kick starter success shows that many are buying III.

It has a dedicated fanbase but if Shenmue was a big deal it wouldn't have needed a kickstarter in the first place

That's down to Sega who have been s*** for years and not helped by a change in direction by Sammy .

Happy to flush out a Yakuza game every other year despite lower sales with each one.

The website counted down to a page which is asking people to sign the Dreamcast petition.

A bunch of Sega fanboys are going to pitch an expensive and ultimately doomed new console to Sega, who will pat them on the head, give them a lollypop and politely show them the exit.

Project dream on, more like.

Do people just want a Sega logo on their console? Because I could totally go into business selling replacement logos and stickers.

Sega has Creative Assembly.... and... umm. ??

Creative Assembly really need to bail out while they can still keep the company together if they ever get a chance.
