Yeah, and as much as i respect and appreciate what our military does to keep us safe. I'd hope they're actually doing their job instead of playing video games anyway. Otherwise we'd all be screwed. And like Dno69 said, thanks for serving man.

You do know that not everyone deployed is in a war zone and that there is down time?

Certainly having things to do on your down time is important. You have to be able to unwind. That said- you accept a certain level of toughing it out. Gaming needs can easily be met with older hardware. There is no expectation of having the high tech entertainment gadgets when deployed. If I heard MS say the machine was online only, I'd realize I couldn't utilize it till I got home. No big deal.

If you aren't deployed to a warzone, then you typically have access to internet. Hell, even where I was had some level of internet you could pay for. That is, until the insurgents found out he was working on the FOB, and they killed him. Same thing happened to a little dude who sold bootleg DVDs.

Exactly. I served for 5 yrs on an aircraft carrier in the US Navy. While you are out to see, or deployed, you work a rotating shift in most cases (varies by dept)... or sometimes, just a regular 8 hr shift like you have in civilian work environments. When you aren't working, you can work out, play games, eat, sleep, whatever... PLENTY of time to play games.

Other military branches, that is obviously going to vary, but even in the forward deployed units in the middle east, they get plenty of down time to unwind.

I got a cousin stationed in Japan as a Marine. If you aren't put into a warzone or something like that, being in the military is actually one of the most positive life experiences a human being can have. You get to travel the world, get college paid for, learn skills in the military that can be applied to a career, and you end up meeting some of the best friends someone can ever have.

Try to tell my son that.

Yea the navy is pretty diverse too, its like a mini US military force in itself. You might spend 20 years mostly on ships or 20 years in the field with marines as corpsman or support, seebees, Seals, EOD, whatever. I think we had like 12k "sailors" on the ground in combat in the 2003 push. I was about 50/50. Everyone would see pics of me with in Marine units with a gun and always ask why I wasn't on a ship. lol.

To be fair, the chances of being put into somewhere scary could scare the s*** out of anybody. ISIS is just doing plain evil s*** all the way over there and I don't blame anybody that prefers to pay for their own college. Less chance of getting beheaded I think. Although, your son could probably get into the national guard or navy. That's hardly bad. If he wants to get some easy p**** when he talks into a bar though, Marine is the way to go. Apologies to all non-Marine military folk.

Its cool- I've known enough Jarheads to make me glad I went Army ;)

Nice to see a couple other vets in here.

On a gaming note- I had too many "one more game"s tonight! Been having a blast with Forza 5. Finally got my McLaren P1. Did some racing on Nurburgring....talk about racing heaven!

Im still 2 seconds slowe than TDbank on every dang track

Not me, but I have a ton of family in there. My brother is actually waiting to get back into the Marines.

I assume this issue is a beta issue, I could be wrong but:

My console has never had a problem, tonight I tried turning the console on using voice command (normal for me) and no response, I grab the controller and try turn it on, the controller light shows fine but still no response from the Xbox One. I walk over to the console and press the Xbox button; I hear a sound (the usual sound when you press the Xbox button) but again no light. I left it came back 10 mins later and pressed the button again, this time it worked.

It's hard to explain what the problem might have been, at first I thought it may be installing something? maybe it was.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Edit:

now my kinect doesn't work, odd.

also I notice I was running this version last night:

Currently running - OS version released: xb_rel_1409.140822-2050.

Now my console is running: OS version: xb_rel_1409.140825.1928

:really:

Just got to run the right tunes for your vehicles. Then you will be 5 seconds ahead of him. ;)

Had the same problem a few months back. Just hard restarted the whole xbox and seems to work fine again. Indeed an odd issue though.

I'd try just unplugging everything and see if that helps. When you do get back in though you should report the issue.

Tried again this morning, still the same buggy as hell. Kinect is non-responsive. I think it's more an issue with the Kinect as appose to the console. I might just opt out of the beta program.

Pointless being in it, if this is what's going to be happening.

yeah you couldnt open cause it was installing the update while you were trying to open it

not sure why your kinect stopped working afterwards though

Not really pointless. The whole point of the Beta Program is that they get to test out new updates, look for, and find the very kind of bugs you are experiencing. In exchange, you get early access to these features. Not pointless, but if you aren't interested in testing, then you should probably just wait for the Final release.
