Shenmue Series

The internet would go wild, gamers everywhere would say they're going to buy it. And when the game actually comes out, much like it's predecessors it'd sell horrendously once again proving gamers are all talk, but rarely buy the games that best warrant a purchase. Meanwhile COD:Shoot s*** Up Bro 3 will sell a gazillion.
My thoughts EXACTLY......

That Mark Cerny appearence alone makes a PS4 version more likely...

MS tested the water on 360 so the thought was definitely there - seems as though the outcome was not as good as hoped.

Would buy ANY console with a next-gen Shenmue asap.

that pretty much sums it up. The same goes for Final Fantasy.

The FF cow has been miked dry. I have not been interested in a FF game since FF13, which I never even played it even though I had it in my home.
SEGA is on my 'Avoid' list. Unless they let the developers of say sleeping dog do the sequel, I am not going to get excited

The Cerny thing is more to do with him being good friends with Yu. Yu is no longer at SEGA.

Sorry. Didn't like the series. I bought the game though. Just couldn't get into it. Would be a win for the XBOX ONE though and for those who love those types of games.

Same. I barely had the patience to play through the first game. I bought the second one on the Xbox and lost interest 2 hours into it. I don't see what the big deal with this series is. Unless Sony or MS funds the entire project, Sega will never even attempt to resurrect this franchise.

Well if reports are true they at least funded HD remakes..... then locked them up never to be seen.

Shenmue 3 is sure to be a PS4 exclusive. The writing has been on the wall for a while now.

It has?

You know that trademark was fake?

I haven't seen any trademarks.

The great relationship with Mark Cerny and Yu Suzuki kind of leads me to believe if it were to happen at all, thats the way it would play out.

Then there was this:

Mark Cerny & Yu Suzuki talking strategy for Shenmue III. For reals you guys.

Ha! that was by some muppet getting attention at the event she was apart of.

Even the die hards at the Dojo tweeted complaints at her for that. That pic and the tweet (especially the tweet) mean nothing in regards to Shenmue. Also worth pointing out Yu is no longer at SEGA and hasn't been for a while now.

Yeah if anything...i can see something happening next year when Cerny is going to translate the post mortem thing for Shenmue. But i really doubt it. We'll never see a Shenmue 3 and honestly..i've given up hope for it and moved on. Also....how good really would it be? Would a simple Shenmue 3 with the exact same gameplay and features from 1 and 2 suffice?

would love Shenmue 3 too come out.

maybe they should test waters with a hd remake or get fans to put money where mouth is and kick stater it. Id donate couple $100.

They'd have to redo 1 in such a way that it could be as amazing as it was for its time. Shenmue did a great job of showing Yokosuka (Yamanose, Dobuita, Sakuargaoka) in the 1980s and most of it's charm came from being detailed and having great characters, for its time. Games have evolved, so they'd have to introduce new things and a higher level of detail / imersiveness for it to stand out. I don't think they could just do III. I would love to see it happen though. I love Shenmue 1 &2!

Seriously, MS Could've bought Sega years ago. C'mon now. Sega + MS + Rare = the sex!!

Yeah I don't think Shenmue would matter much. It's not really as big of a name as people think...more of a cult classic. It wouldn't even be worth spending the cash for exclusivity honestly. It would probably be worth it only from an Arcade port perspective more so.

That tweet was BS. It was confirmed that they just saw each other in passing and took a pic together. Someone just added that they were talking about Shenmue 3 without any confirmation.

BTW the guy can't just make the game because SEGA owns the IP.

Agreed.

I could see this having a similar fate as Crimson Dragon just did recently.

I don't think we need outside confirmation to know that they were indeed talking to each other about Shenmue at some point in time. That is a verifiable fact.

Postmortem and all that jazz.

As for making the game, Sega owns the license, that is true. That doesn't mean they can't license it out to third party developers to handle and they don't seem to be in a hurry to let anyone else take a crack at the IP. Highly doubtful they'd let ANYONE else but him touch the IP.

Exactly. Those types of games have never really sold well on Xbox anyways. Shenmue is a treasure in a select few's hearts, but the problem is people think just because it was important to them that everybody wants it or would scoop it up. I guarantee if you polled Xbox players randomly only a few would say they even knew what Shenmue was or that they would purchase it. I played it on Dreamcast, but trust me, if the game was a huge hit or moneymaker, there would have been tons of sequels by now.
