Shenmue Series

The rendering is actually pretty nice- thanks to UE4. I'll hold judgement until I see some face animation. The music still gets me. Such a good score. Of course, I have to question anyone who uses Papyrus in their trailer.....

My guess advertising plus physical release in more areas.

Just shows Sony was all show the other year at E3 when this was announced and I'm guessing that's it for their involvement? Don't think it will be long till Xbox and Switch versions are confirmed.

They said they included it to help get the kickstarter going it, clearly that is a "showy" kind of thing because the game isn't really even being made in a real way at that point.

Hmm... The rendering is fine, but the styling is still whack.

He looks like the Asian Seinfeld.

Wait wait they're still getting a publisher AFTER the 6 million they scammed from everyone? "If we do not reach our funding goal (2 million), Shenmue 3 will not go forward."

What do they need the publishers money for after all that? I was suspicious of it before but I'm certain this is now gamings biggest boondoggle.

Should be worth it in the end. Another must have Japanese exclusive on the PS4. Shenmue 3 baby. One of the best gaming franchises of all time. Sucks it's not coming to other platforms, with Xbox essentially being Sega's platform after the fall of the Dreamcast. I guess when you're market leader like Sony, the hits keep coming.

If getting shenmue 3 meant no more games until 2020 I'd take it.
I've been waiting for this since shenmue 2 on Dreamcast and watching that floating sword cliffhanger. If I could chose one bff it would be Ryo. I think we'd make a great duo.

It says 2018 in the trailer, not sure if there's a date attached.

I was never a Shenmue fan, but good news for those who want a dose of Shenmue nostalgia.

The trailer looks like footage of the old game, right? That's not the "HD visuals" version, is it?

I know there are resolution options but I don't think they are really doing any graphical upgrades aside from that are they? At least they'll have a modern control option which hopefully means using the analog stick for navigation. I really wish they'd at least upgrade these as much as the Yakuza games got for PS4, while they aren't technical marvels they look decent enough.

Well that pretty much confirms III for Xbox as well IMO. 0 point only bringing the first 2.

So updated controls as well as the original and even better for me English and Japanese voice overs.

Not necessarily, if they are going through the expense of porting it to PS4 and PC than bringing it to the X1 is a no brainer, it probably won't cost much being that they are already doing a PC port and don't seem to be doing a whole lot to improve the graphics. That doesn't mean that 3 won't come to X1 but I don't think porting the older games when they are already doing it for other platforms confirms anything. The publishing deal for Shenmue 3 is said to be exclusively for PS4 and PC.

Maybe 505 Games will publish the Xbox version.... or we get the og xbox shenmue in a bc update, maybe with 4k textures and 16x antialiasing....

Sony avoided saying it was exclusive when it was announced just went on about agreeing to advertise it. If anything it will be timed

It would be great if it did come out on the X1, I'm not against the idea at all I'm just not ready to jump to that conclusion yet. It's a great series and the more people that can play it the better.

Pretty much confirmed as you said. 505 is historical for that, and yeah Sony never mentioned exclusive.

This is great news if I can get all 3 on my X1X.

I don't understand the appeal of this series. I tried it once on the Xbox -- was it Shenmue 2? I hauled boxes around and played checkers or something. I thought, "This is boring" and stopped. Based on how much people seem to adore these games, I must have missed something. I did stop playing pretty fast. Or maybe it's just not my type of game. I dunno. The screens/vids seem to be trading on nostalgia among the players who really enjoyed the game, way back when.

Some how I have a feeling these two will be another couple that make me have to buy some new rose colored lenses. I loved them back in the day, but, have a feeling they would stand up today.

You probably have to start with the first one to get the connection to the characters. I really hated the box moving mini game "right! Right! Right!"

They should all be fired if they don't update the controls...

Top 5 greatest story telling games ever made imo. If haven't played the first I would assume 2 would be hard to love at first glance.

I played through 1 on my Dreamcast fairly recently, it holds up imo, at least if you liked/loved it back when released. Controls aren't nearly as bad as people say imo, it's weird to walk and run with a shoulder button but it somehow feels natural after a while.
Am I the only one hopping they release a forklift mini game for mobile whilst we wait for the release of this.
the forklift parts aren't fun at all, especially not if viewed in a vacuum, but it do work in making you feel part of the world in the grande scheme of the story. I do not want a forklift mini game, if you like you can just play watchdogs 2, there's lots of forklifting there if you want.

I think you kind of have to start with the first one to really get into it. This series has a relatively small but loyal fan base, sadly that's probably why the upgrades are so minimal. They probably don't plan on selling a whole lot of copies so they aren't going to pour a bunch of money into it.

I can see that happening, plus if you've played the Yakuza games you kind of get a better looking evolution of what Shenmue was and playing these again may seem like taking a step or two back, I'm still going to pick them up though.

Actually looking at the trailer and it looks... Like old shenmue, even fps is choppy as hell lol.
Wonder if number 2 really only is the bc version with 4k update as ninja gaiden and such... Rare replay got away with doing this with a few of the titles included there (sans 4k), although the"modern" control scheme would perhaps talk against that. Honestly wouldn't have a problem if they just upped the res on these, shenmue still looks great even on DC through vga/hdmi on my TV today.
