Slowly upgrading my HT system.

Bought a pioneer 1130k a couple months ago it's pretty sweet, sounds better than the Onkyo it replaced and I bought the pioneer atmos Add on speakers to take advantage of atmos.

Congrats :) I have it bought it @ launch for $599 its now cheaper :meh:
I am coming from a Denon 3312CI which was great but didn't have 4K HDMI 2.0/HDCP2.2 and I actually prefer the sound of the 1130-K after calibrating.
As a tip I would put ACL AFTER calibrating as the sound is much more pronounced.
Try Transformers AOE for amazing Atmos sound.

Can't watch those Transformer movies. John Wick was awesome with atmos though.

thanks for that VaLL it is in my top 5 I was also looking at Yamaha and MAYBE Denon (specs and what they cost) but mainly I am leaning towards that sweet Pioneer.

well I had 3 Pioneers since 99, I sold my first one to my cousin when I upgraded to a 6.1 unit with component switching (my 1st only had S-video switching, yes it was old). But I never really took advantage of the 6.1 as I had no desire to install a rear surround speaker in my room. So I sold it to a friend and got my 3rd and final one. But I wanted a model that took advantage of the high end audio of blu ray (True HD, DTS-HD, etc) and I had a buddy who wanted a nicer than his 1996 prologic unit from RCA. So I sold him mine and bought the Onkyo, fun fact the 1st Pioneer I sold in 05 to my cousin he still has it and works fine considering it is now 17 years old :surprise:.
Around 2002 I bought a Pioneer VSX‑D810S 6.1 I sold it for $50 a couple years ago that sucker had amazing sound and still worked like new when I bought it over 10 years ago. Nothing I had supported the 6.1 @ 1st and then one day the PS3 had a fw update that enabled DTS ES 6.1 and man it was years after I bought it and it felt like a new AVR.
I highly recommend them for my experiences with them and they aren't 2 bad on the wallet either.

Yeah this is my 1st Pioneer and I'm loving it, I have it paired with all Andrew Jones Pioneer speakers as well. And 2 subs.

The 1124K was my first Pioneer too, prior to that I was a Yamaha guy. I have andrew jones rear bookshelves, great for the money!

I'm using the bookshelves for surrounds as well, then I have 2 floorstanders for my mains and of course the center and the atmos modules. So I'm happy with that and my Panasonic plasma until the OLEDs become more affordable.

I had a picture of my setup in here but it's gone, oh well lol

Update I have narrowed it down to a Pioneer, a Yamaha, and a Denon. I saw all 3 in person and compared the specs, all 3 are on sale the Pioneer a 530K I think was 180, the Yamaha and the Denon were 259. I am strongly waving towards the Denon it had the most watts per channel, more features, more than enough HDMI ports for me (my tv only has 2 of them and one of them is hooked to my DVR and PS4) so I can go back to having all my audio/game stuff going back to the AV unit.

well currently I have my Denon in the box the dead Onkyo is in my tower cabinet at the moment. I am gonna be replacing that vertical one with adjustable shelves and glass door with a horizontal one with glass shelves it should give me enough space for the Denon as I am only putting my DVR next to it and my PS3 and PS4 below on the lower shelf. My only concern is that the unit is 700w (140w per channel), my mains will have no problem as they can handle over 200 plus (they are 4 feet tall), but my rear surrounds are good for 100 and and THINK my center channel is 120, not sure. But I talked to 2 different guys and they said that that is the MAX power but I should be in no danger in blowing my rear surround or center channel. I saw on the specs for that unit on the Denon page:

Number of Poweramps 5

Power Output (8 ohm, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.08% 2ch Drive) 75 W

Power Output (8 ohm, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.05% 2ch Drive)
icon_unavailable.png

Power Output (6 ohm, 1 kHz, 0.7% 2ch Drive) 110 W

Power Output (6 ohm, 1 kHz, 10% 1ch Drive) 140 W

not sure what this all means but it sounds as if it outputs different levels of wattage, if that makes sense?

Different levels of power per channels driven and per ohms, ohms is resistance. The less ohm speakers you have the more power you can extract from an amp. Typically home theater speakers are 8ohm, some are 6 ohms.

I always buy speakers that are above what the amp can do. Your speakers are above what that denon can do.

how does that make sense my rear speakers say for receivers 0-100 watts impedance 8ohms minimum my front center says 8ohms minimum but does not say the wattage but as I am sure it is between 100-120 watts.

it only is a 5.1 for a moment I thought it was 7.1 when I first saw it monday but it is a 5.1 I never had a unit this well amped before my Onkyo was 80x5 this is 140x5

I picked up a Pioneer 1130-K today at Best Buy for $335. Open box... I have been using an old VSX-815 I picked up new in 2005. The center channel has been going in and out for a couple weeks now. Its been on constantly for the past 10 years or so, so I think I got my moneys worth from it.
Gonna get it up and running tomorrow.

I bought 5 Cambridge Audio Minx Min 12 satellite speakers( these: https://www.cambridgeaudio.com/products/speakers/minx-min-12 )about a week a go. Boy am I impressed with them, they are tiny speakers at only 3.2 inches all round(smaller than a Coke can) but the sound from them beggars belief.

I have them in a 12x10 foot room and they fill that space up with ease. The transition from speaker to speaker is perfect and the range, clarity, poise and overall tone, even at high volume, of the sound is simply impressive for such tiny things.

I have them paired with my trusty old Rel Quake sub and they seem to go together very well.

I had to take my receiver in for repair this week. Went to bed Saturday , it was working fine and woke up Sunday to no Audio. Very disappointed since its no easy task to remove it from its spot in a closet hidden away. Definitely hate just using the crappy TV speakers...
