Sony has purchased Bungie - Their Final Shape

It's a vague denial. Either way, doesn't look like its happening now. People in the know still believe very strongly that they at least talked about it. Doesn't mean much though. I expect Microsoft to talk to every independent studio within the regions they're willing to expand to. Only a fraction of any studio considered will get close to a purchase. Especially now days. Lot of studios will hold off due to increasing value of gaming industry.

I'd love to have Bungie back with Microsoft. Even though I wasn't a huge Destiny fan. Both games are gorgeous though.

At this point MSFT Gaming doesn't need Bungie. Don't get me wrong Bungie is a talented studio but MSFT doesn't need more shooters for their consoles. They need more of everything else to lure more gamers with different tastes into their ecosystem.

Microsoft and Bungie were best when they were together but nothing that Bungie has done would make you think they would be open to not being independent.

And the studios Microsoft has bought when lead you to think they wouldn't be that into whatever inflated price it would take.

Halo would be DOA with Bungie. ODST was their nail in the coffin. Worst Halo in the history of Halo.

😂 Halo needing Bungie. 😂

Current Bungie is not the same as they were back in their Halo days, if they were acquired by MS to get involved with Halo don't expect the glory days to return.

Look at that, Ryan’s capable of saying something semi-intelligent.

I like Hoeg. He's not an insider but does a good job parsing language from corporations. My personal belief is that Microsoft inquired. Microsoft is kicking the tires of virtually everyone who might be a good fit. Probably not happening with Bungie but the denial wasn't much of a denial.

That's the thing about rumours like this one. The only two responses are either stay silent or deny. It doesn't matter which one you pick - you're just going to feed the rumour mill with both.

Why would they buy Bungie at this point?
For Destiny? Thought it was dead?
Help with Halo? If anything, what's needed for that franchise is to get the story interesting again and Bungies storytelling with destiny is lol

Working with instead?

[Speculation] Bungie will once again be involved with the Halo Franchise/co-owners of I.P. with Microsoft

After the handling of the Halo franchise by 343 Studios(mass departures, uncertain direction/future, delays, etc) for Microsoft I have a very strong feeling their have been "discussions" between Bungie and Microsoft to
come back aboard the I.P. that Bungie created: HALO. "Feelers sent out?" "Cross promotion discussions?"

This will either come in the form of buying the I.P. back outright from Microsoft(with agreements in place that MS will still have HALO games for their console/PC platforms day and date with future releases) or a "partial sale/co-ownership of
the I.P" where Bungie will make the Halo series available to other platforms from Sony, Nintendo and Nvidia. My gut instinct is that we'll see a "co-ownership/partnership" between Bungie and Microsoft.

Let's face it, Halo has floundered under 343 along with Microsoft's management of the I.P.

Halo needs fresh, experienced developers along with management to help guide it into the future. What better company to do that then the I.P's creator in Bungie?

P.S. Wouldn't be surprised at all to hear/read about a delay of the single player Halo Infinite Campaign until Summer 2022.

Let me add that Dec Destiny 2 DLC will have Halo content.
