Sony has purchased Bungie - Their Final Shape

I don't agree. I think PS Now is very much trying to be Gamepass which is a subscription service aiming for an ever larger amount of members for recurring revenue. Its just that Sony is not trying to match Gamepass by putting its exclusives on their service because they sell way too well. I think that's why we've been hearing about Sony at work on another Gamepass like competitor with a tiered system which might and emphasis on might offer day 1 exclusive games access.
They could up the monthly fee to say $20 to include day one exclusive access for that particular tier.

We keep hearing it because the gaming media desperately wants more console war nonsense, PSNow was a thing several years before game pass announced and it's always just been a side service. It has evolved over time, now you can download some of the games now that it includes PS4 games which it didn't at the start and it's a lot less expensive now. Sony has said on more than one occasion that they won't be putting their AAA games on any kind of service day one because they make a lot of money on those launches, they sell millions of copies at full price and a subscription service wouldn't make up for that. The one constant in every rumor I've read about the rebranding of PSNow is it'll either be a combo of PS+ and PSNow or that they'll offer larger selections of older titles but every one of those rumors also said no day one launches of new games.

Maybe they'll put all of their AAA exclusives in on day 101 and call it PS Later.

If you expect old games to move a needle when they come to game pass you have unrealistic expectations and it's a silly point to try to make, that beyond light expansion was a year old by the time it was released on game pass, the people who wanted it were already playing it so how much of an impact do you realistically think it should make? old games on GP are basically filler. PS Now isn't trying to be game pass so that's also another irrelevant point to make, they aren't pushing that as their primary way to play games the way Xbox does.
I didn't expect or try to make the point. Kerosene said putting Destiny on PS Now and COD on GP without exclusivity would be a huge deal. I disagreed and Kerosene ignored it as usual and others jumped in.

I can’t swim, so I wouldn’t have jumped in….

Putting new versions on those platforms without exclusivity is a fairly big deal, you aren't going to pull a ton of players over from the other platform, but you'll likely get more of your own player base giving it a shot than would have otherwise and with all of the microtransactions they sell for these games that could be a decent amount of money. MS execs said that Halo Infinite has had 20 million people play it, it wouldn't have been anywhere near that if they had to pay for the game and they didn't get any PlayStation converts for a Halo game, that being said people playing it vs people spending extra money on it are two different things and they said nothing about how much money people spent on microtransactions or how much money was brought in by that title specifically.

I agree with the doesn't make sense opinion, but Bungie must be pulling in more than $200 million annually. That likely do that or more from Eververse. Then you have the yearly expansions that are like $40 each even with only a million buyers that is like $400 million.

[Speculation] Bungie will once again be involved with the Halo Franchise/co-owners of I.P. with Microsoft

After the handling of the Halo franchise by 343 Studios(mass departures, uncertain direction/future, delays, etc) for Microsoft I have a very strong feeling their have been "discussions" between Bungie and Microsoft to
come back aboard the I.P. that Bungie created: HALO. "Feelers sent out?" "Cross promotion discussions?"

This will either come in the form of buying the I.P. back outright from Microsoft(with agreements in place that MS will still have HALO games for their console/PC platforms day and date with future releases) or a "partial sale/co-ownership of
the I.P" where Bungie will make the Halo series available to other platforms from Sony, Nintendo and Nvidia. My gut instinct is that we'll see a "co-ownership/partnership" between Bungie and Microsoft.

Let's face it, Halo has floundered under 343 along with Microsoft's management of the I.P.

Halo needs fresh, experienced developers along with management to help guide it into the future. What better company to do that then the I.P's creator in Bungie?

P.S. Wouldn't be surprised at all to hear/read about a delay of the single player Halo Infinite Campaign until Summer 2022.

Let me add that Dec Destiny 2 DLC will have Halo content.
I just want to say, looking back at that thread on that forum... quite interesting. Seems like someone inadvertently predicted the Activision buyout, loosely connected Sony's acquisition of Bungie and then the thread was locked for being "DEBUNKED."

I hope Sony can get Bungie to do a single player focused game!!
From what current and former devs, like Marcus Lehto, have mentioned before it seems like they’ll stick to GAAS games :( maybe some will leave to start a new studio or maybe Sony could allow some to test the waters inside to see if they can splinter something new….

Studio being hit with layoffs. No word on how many yet but looks to be done by next week.

She's the only person who's said anything so far, could just be the project she was working on is coming to an end. They are still hiring for over 50 positions at Bungie so this doesn't look to be some large layoff situation.
