Sony may skip another E3(2020)

So now fanboys are the ones that enjoy E3? Seems some things never change here at the Union with some people. I figured we were all at the age where we accepted others opinions, not downplayed them.

I guess I was wrong.
Which means you're old enough to not be so naive. It's Valliance for christ sake.

Maybe because it's THE show for video games? E3 is not just keynotes. There are unfinished games to play, in order to gain exposure through media and public opinion on actual gameplay. I really don't get why it's cool to not attend E3 all of the sudden. I have my own beef with E3, but I mean, what would we get instead? Every single dev is going to have their own show now? Not possible. OK, just indies and multi platform AAAs? It's honestly just strange to me to see the platform leader bowing out of E3 on a launch year. If they have their show in February, OK. In what condition can their games possibly be in so early? there's a rather large span of time between then and launch. Are they going to have another show where the media can actually play the games in a more finished state?
E3 hasn't been good in years.

VGA's have been far better.

VGAs are awards. WTF does that have to do with E3? That's like saying Cannes and Sundance should be canceled because the Oscars are better.

It's the fact that XB fanboys are commenting on Sony not being there.

If they show the PS5 next month most rather than wait till June.
Lol, more like the usual Sony apologists.

I agree that E3 hasn't been good in years but how could it? Sony didn't go last year and did a half assed show the year before that, Microsoft hasn't had much to show since the gen started, and Nintendo had to disappear for it a bit because of the Wii U.

I get that, it's sort of tradition but at the end of the day we are all just getting the news off of the internet one way or the other . I'm sure they'll do a presser to debut the console and all of that good stuff, MS has already shown theirs so any mystery there is already gone anyway and it's all up to games to show off what the machine can do.

E3 used to be a lot better, we'd get live gameplay demonstrations at the conferences and then the devs would go make the rounds with new live demonstrations at IGN, Gamespot etc but now all we get is the same video over and over again day in and day out. E3 has been dying a slow death for years, it'll probably be gone before too long.
They announced it. The only thing they showed is honestly the least important aspect. A true showing would entail actual demos running on the machine so we can see what to expect....

Even the cringey stuff and disappointments that happen make a good E3, imo. I love watching those compilations. It's not just the games, but the entire culture. Stuff like that brings people together as well as creates stories (good and bad) that make it all more interesting than just some assembly of products.

Oh for sure, I do wish MS hadn't put out that "in engine" trailer though because a lot of people are now under the assumption that the games will look like that, even on the supposedly smart forum resetera that comment is made daily.

E3 is expensive and ever publisher has to compete with each other for attention, as far as being "the show" it really isn't, most of the global shows have crowds that are like 5 times bigger. Over the last gen we have seen publishers fly gaming media and youtubers out to play their AAA games and all of them get to post their impressions and post footage, no doubt that will continue going as it has for years. It would be silly to think Sony isn't going to have their own events to show off the console as well as their launch titles. Third party games coming out around launch will all likely be cross gen so any footage we get from them near release will probably be from next gen consoles just so we see the best version possible.

The last 5 years the VGA's have had better reveals than E3.
I take it you don't watch them.

Yeah E3's have been pretty blah the last few years, last year MS had the stage mostly to themselves and still had a forgettable show with no gameplay in site, a bunch of cgi and in engine trailers are basically just like watching 2 hours of commercials. If they aren't going to do actual gameplay on stage or at least a video of real gameplay I'm not interested in watching anymore and that goes for all publishers not just MS.

I do wish Sony would stop putting out all those "in engine" trailers too that never look like the final product. I keep thinking it will look just like at E3, then we all get let down. Resetera talks about that daily.

Only anti-fanboy fanboys and third level recursive fanfanboyboyfanboys care about E3, or the other way around, whichever suits my preferences at the time.

Key word being "reveals". Have you actually been to an E3? I've been to 2 of them, and you can play the games there in person. That's quite different than just showing off a video, which yes, you can obviously do from anywhere.

New reveals>anything else that is why most watch.

Sony pulled away, Nintendo pulled away... E3 isn't the same without them.

Nintendo's both space was HUGELY popular when I went 2 years ago. Now they pulled out of E3? When? Says who? Do you have a link?

Why is E3 2020 so important? As a place where the likes of Microsoft and Nintendo – both of whom will be in attendance this year – tend to announce new hardware and titles, alongside countless third-party publishers showing off their wares to the fans, players, and media gathered for the event, E3 tends to hold some massive announcements that shape the conversation around the year’s games for many months after.

If "E3 isn't the same" without them, why would this benefit any single developer that isn't exclusive? Funny how indies don't matter until they do. I'll say it again, E3 is MUCH more than reveals! Is about getting media and gamers in the same space to actually PLAY the games and discuss them. Look beyond your own little worldview and see that there might be more going on outside of your bubble. Videos are not the same as gameplay, and saying a promotional video > games = such a non-gamer thing to suggest, imo. My problem the last time I attended was that there was TOO MANY PEOPLE, and you couldn't get enough play time. That's quite the opposite problem from canceling altogether, so that nobody can play any of the upcoming games at all.

That's al E3 is anymore, at least the press events. We haven't had a live gameplay demo in a long time, last year the Xbox show was just trailers there wasn't a single live or pre recorded gameplay demo in their entire show that I can remember, it was all trailers with quick clips or CGI stuff and it stunk.

I have been to E3 myself and yeah it was cool getting to play the games early but people at home don't get that experience so unless you are going it's not a big loss. If anyone thinks they are just going to announce the PS5 and not show any gameplay or let anyone go hands on with anything until it launches they are crazy. Sony will have their own event for sure and there are plenty of international game shows later in the year that they can and will undoubtedly bring games to so that "journalists" will be able to go hands on etc.

No it's not and Sony's pre-E3 PS5 showing will be much much more talked about than anything E3 this year.

I can't believe they dont have an E3 section on XBL where you can play all the E3 demos yourself yet. It would be amazing. Even schedule the demos to release as they talk about them through the week or something. Make it a shared experience.

Yeah I think most of us have been wanting something like this for years, they did used to put up a demo or two during E3 last gen but all of that good stuff seems to be long gone.

Actually most people including the media, resetera and gaf praised Microsoft’s show at Microsoft Theater last year. Of course you of all people thought it stunk. Lol. And yes there was gameplay shown, not just CGI. You have a case of CRS or you didn’t watch the show.
