Hedge fund activist Dan Loeb is gearing up to launch a roughly 200-page presentation to press Japanese electronics maker Sony to explore a sale of Sony Pictures, which owns the “Spider-Man” and “Men in Black” movie franchises, The Post has learned.

Loeb’s presentation will also argue that Sony, the maker of the PlayStation, should spin off its insurance and semiconductor divisions, a source with knowledge of the hedgie’s plans told The Post.

The push comes amid chatter that Amazon’s Jeff Bezos has personally reached out to Sony Pictures’ head Tony Vinciquerra to let it be known that Amazon is interested in buying the division, a source with knowledge of the situation said.

A second source with direct knowledge of the talks said discussions between the two media giants ended last year after exhausting a range of possibilities, from a partnership to an outright sale.

TLDR: When Sony sells their film division, the rights to Spider-Man go back to Marvel/Disney

Why would anyone want to buy that division without Spider-Man? that's their biggest franchise by far. I know that if they sell it the rights will go back to Marvel but I just don't get the appeal to a buyer without Spider-Man. What do they get besides Jumanji? Maybe they want the back catalog for streaming or something? I don't know , I just know I wouldn't even bother trying to buy it.

Maybe they want their studios and employees/creatives to expand their own, giving the greater creative freedom over new/existing properties???

You could just open your own studio and hire people away for that, I'd have to see everything they'd get in the deal but on the face of it I don't think Sony pictures is worth buying without Spider-Man. Men in Black is long past it's prime and the last Jumanji did well but I wouldn't buy a studio based on that franchise.

Doesn't matter anyways and title is very misleading.

Some guy who doesn't work for either company is going to bore Sony with a slide show
