It seems PlayStation has been busy ensuring more choices for their console users in the way they use the accessories. Most of these changes are subtle, minor, yet very useful and add some much-needed accessibility to the controller.

For instance, as per a new patent (via coindipender), Sony is trying to give its user the option to adjust the height of the control stick, the main goal being that the c-stick is not sticking out in one place permanently. As per the filings, the abstract reads as follows:

“A controller, thumbstick, or system comprising a thumbstick body, a thumbstick shaft coupled to the thumbstick body wherein the thumbstick shaft is configured to retract into the thumbstick body and wherein the thumbstick body and the thumbstick shaft is freely rotatable together around a pivot center within the controller body.”

The internal filing date for the patent seems to point out that Sony filed it last year on 22 July, and the same got published on 13 January 2022.

The filing indicates that Sony might be working on a new controller, though patents aren’t necessarily always indicative of concrete plans of course. PlayStation’s DualSense controllers are already feature-rich, coming with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, among other features, so having something like this would add to an already pleasant controller experience.

In more Sony patent-related news, the company recently filed one for their upcoming PSVR2, which allows the headset to scan real-world objects into a game, along with one filed by the PlayStation 5 architect Mark Cerny for backward compatibility.

Hopefully this Pro controller is announced in September...
I’m kinda on the fence for adjustable thumb sticks. Feel like it’s something more that could break, get stuck or just not work as intended….kinda like the gears in the triggers.

Imagine if it were like adjusting a coil spring on a car, have a tool that’ll let you adjust it and or click into place.

Same.
I had a launch DS break/get stick drift already and I'm not taking the whole controller apart to fix it.

I have two broken, drift and trigger….I’m not one to throw something away if I know I can fix it or have someone else fix. Atm I’ve just been lazy to have it done 😆

Because you have 2.
Stick drift is a wide spread issue with the DS because of the way its made.

I have 4 now, just opened my 2 new black and cosmic red ones for Overcooked this weekend with some friends.

I primarily use the one that came with the console though and my partner uses the second one when we coop. I don't feel anything wrong with my primary DS. I also tend to be more careful with my electronics in general so not sure if that has anything to do with it 🤔

I'm loving this controller. I like the standard resistance on the sticks. All I want are some back paddles
