Soooo, you think we'll have a Gay History Month?

Maybe in a while (like 10-20 years), but I doubt anything in the near future. Until the country has fully backed it, it won't happen.

Gays don't want gay history month, and blacks don't want black history month. It comes off as "special treament" and is more insulting than honoring.

Sounds like black gay talk to me...

Got anything you want to share with the group?

On the local late night news last night (which I rarely watch but I stayed up because I wanted to watch the Tonight Show) they had a story about a "protest" at a local city school. Apparently they usually have some kind of assembly/event for Black History month and because of whatever they were pushing it back, so a lot of the students (from the video they showed they were all black students) protested during the last period of the school day by staying in the halls and causing a scene. Seems like they wanted it.

Wouldn't bother me to have one, but it seems a bit too much like singling out people. I mean, do we have a Asian History Month? I know we have one for Latinos, but do we have one for Indians as well? I think there should be a diversity history month, showcasing people who have contributed to their community and America as a whole. Celebrate the ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious background, and nationality of all people.

There are drag races quite often in DC. And Im sure a parade here and there is enough and all that is really needed for these fine folks.
Even though I'm sure it's pretty exciting HELLRAISER , no one wants to hear about your sexual history for a month.

Not sure how you could stretch that out into a month. Maybe an hour...

I'd be okay with a Harvey Fierstein Day or something, but I'd rather not have a whole month devoted to gay history. I feel like I'm constantly reading about gay this and gay that. I'm gayed out.

I have no problem with gay people.. But is it to much for them to just act normal instead of hey look at me on this float, im gay and vibrant.. Eventually it'll happen as this is today's America. Actually if it was a paid holiday from work then I'd be all for it lol..

Honestly, this is becoming a bit of a stereotype in my opinion. Gay people I know are pretty mild mannered and I've never seen them walk down Chicago in a thong. I think the ones that do are essentially the type of people you see on the Walmart site with all the crazies on there.

That's probably male attention whores.

Or a way to draw attention to a cause. It's probably more difficult to draw attention or get on the news by acting like everyone else.

Probably for every flamboyant gay person you see, there are 3 more that we wouldnt notice that act normal.

On a side note, i dont know why the whole LGBT includes Transexuals, to me thats a whole different level of sexuality.

We already have a gay pride month, which is June, and gay history month, which is October. You generally don't hear about it much though, mostly just National Coming Out Day and various pride celebrations in local cities. http://www.loc.gov/lgbt/about.html The transgender (not the same as transsexual) community was very supportive during the early gay rights days after Stonewall, so we try to take care of our friends and return the favor and help each other. And yes, most gay people are not flamboyant at all. I'm sure that you would never know that either my husband or I are gay if you met us.
