The first slide, shown above, features an updated version of the the Plantation level from Left 4 Dead 2 and highlights the significant increase in detail possible on the Source 2 engine, with noticeably enhanced foliage, large amounts of high quality destruction, and improved lighting and shadow effects. While this slide alone is very interesting, the presentation actually features a total of 20 slides. Unfortunately, 13 of these slides remain obscured from view, so we're not entirely sure what they may be discussing.

When I was a 14 year old console fanboy, one of my arguments was that PC games look all stretched out in the corners of the screen, and it bugged the hell out of me. Apparently, my 14 year old self is not dead.

It's called FOV. It's adjustable.

If this and Evolve came out in 2014 that would be pretty awesome.

Though HL3 would be that level of awesomeness x 1,000,000.

What did I miss on the neogaf thread about this? I see mods cleaned up some stuff and edited cboat's post.

Half-Life 3 would probably be released to push SteamBox sales from the different companies. It is the 10 year anniversary this year as well. It's got to be hard to release the sequel to the game that numerous publications called "Game of the Decade" from 2000-2010.

Regardless, the main thing that people don't understand is Valve is no longer a development of games only company, they are split into divisions with a lot of their time in the business side of Steam. This is really what is preventing HL3 from releasing. Most of their company now focuses on Steam since it's so successful.

Anyways, that screenshot looks pretty good. I'm hoping for slightly more though...

its off though

They most likely increased it for presentation purposes. But ya, it is field of view setting and it is completely adjustable.

I'm most curious about their destructible environments.

Boycott Steam for HL3? That's what I'm reading.

As a huge fan of the L4D series, I hope for L4D3 to look this good. Reminds me a bit of CryEngine games, which look damn good in general. My guess is they won't release HL3 as the first Source 2 game. They'll want to work on some others first to work out some bugs/kinks and make sure they can take full advantage of it with HL3.

not impressed at all. I remember seeing photos of the source engine before half life 2 came out and it was so life like at the time compared to the ugly game that were around then. That shot looks like a video game and not very life like.

This presentation was from 2011. Source 2.0 should look better today.
