Watched the movie not too long ago. Was not all that into it. I just ended up being a bit bored by it too often, which is not something I've said about any Spiderman movie before. It's weird because I love the spiderverse storyline, but this adaptation just didn't ring with me at all. Great visuals and animation. One of my biggest gripes has to be with the fact that the characters aren't that interesting. Kingpin is so damn boring. One of the most charismatic villains ever, and he's just not that interesting of a character. Loved the Prowler, Doc Ock, and SpiderHam. Hated how Prowler and Doc Ock were killed, and there just wasn't enough SpiderHam. I liked Miles a bit, but he's just sort of a place holder until he finally gets suited up at the end. The anime girl was the worst. It just feels like such a western filtered idea of what they think is cool about anime. She's the most generic of them all. Noire was too much of a comedy act. Feels like he was just added in for the sake of having an extra character. Like Spiderwoman, but there wasn't enough of her at all. Divorced and lonely Spider-Man was good. The only constant that wasn't art direction or animation. Also, I hated the soundtrack and score. Just wasn't having any of it.
That said, I hope they take another crack at it. Miles as Spiderman was fun to watch, so I'd love to see him doing his own thing. Would love to see him in a movie with Kraven as the main villain. He was always one of my favorite comic villains as a kid, and I think he'd flow well with the art and animation they've set-up as long as they don't make him look like bad album fan art for My Chemical Romance.
