Spider-Man

The story is alright so far, the web swinging is a lot of fun but the combat system is what really stands out to me. It’s very much inspired by the Arkham games, which is obvious. But where they differ is Spidey is a much more agile warrior in comparison to the armored up Dark Knight. The ability to improvise according to changing battles is just so much fun. And that is very much in keeping with this character who makes it up and he goes along.

Also this a incredibly stable and bug free game. That is something that shouldn’t surprise gamers but in the β€œrelease first, patch later” reality of gaming today Spiderman is a shining example of β€œrelease it when it’s done”. Actually, also give credit to Sony for giving their developers the time and resources they need to succeed. God of War was also a very stable and bug free experience.

This game is so well done. Insomniac nailed it and I’m so happy for their success and recognition by all in gaming. They’ve had a rough time of late with Sunset Overdrive not performing as well as hoped. And with a dud like Fuse which I thought looked kind of cool. But Marvel’s Spider-Man shows that when you match up the right developer with a project you get a masterpiece such as this.

Great screens! What's crazy is they don't even do it justice. I'm on base PS4 and it's one of the very best looking games out there! Great story (So far), great controls, great combat, great animation, great graphics, GREAT GAME!!

Yeah they spent a lot of time on the little details and it shows, awesome game!

And this is why I'm a PS fan.

"Bryan Intihar, creative director on the game and the man who features in a billion interviews, made this very clear in a video interview with Kinda Funny Games. Early into the spoiler-filled conversation, Intihar made a point of saying that if PlayStation wasn't involved, the game might not have been made at all.

"This game would not exist if it wasn't for PlayStation, if not for their support," Intihar stated. "Any time I wanted to do something, and I wanted to make some drastic change, it was just like, 'Okay'. I never heard about anything. It was just like, 'Go do it.' The question was, 'Is it gonna make the game better?' and I'd say, 'Yep', and they'd go, 'Okay', and that would be the last time I'd hear about it."

"This isn't the first time we've heard about Sony being an extremely supportive partner when producing a game, and it sounds like the platform holder gave Insomniac full control over the creative aspects of production. Intihar felt that people weren't necessarily giving Sony due credit for its role in making Marvel's Spider-Man become a reality: "So many people want to talk about Marvel and Insomniac - which is awesome... But I owe everything to PlayStation".

Long time Xbox only owner, but Sony finally found a way to get me to buy a PlayStation with Spider-Man. And now I’m starting to feel a little disconnected from Xbox, like Microsoft is becoming very multiplayer focused while Sony still believes in the big epic single player only game.

Gonna be very interesting next generation, it will be tough to choose a console

I like that MS focuses on games that offer both, as well as some that have no MP, and of course they only have one MP only game, Sea of Thieves.

When in doubt, go Playstation. They have a pretty good track record.

True, it’s just when you stack the single player focused games for both consoles against each other Sony kills it, there’s no comparison.

Being a gamer that plays zero multiplayer, that’s a big deal. Right now it’s balanced out by the X1X which is an amazing machine. All multi platform games are bought on Xbox.

But if hardware is more even next gen MS better bring something else to the table for SP gamers like me!

No doubt. I agree it's going to be a tough choice next gen. For me this gen, as a SP-only gamer, there's been no contest. I appreciate the tech advantage the X offers, but that's too little too late, imo. Hopefully MS will bring the big, quality SP titles next gen. With the studio acquisitions and changes in leadership, there's every reason to hope they will. Although at this point, I can't see abandoning the Sony exclusive franchises I enjoy, either. Might end up getting both, although I'm usually a one-console guy.

Note I haven’t read the article yet....

I’m take part as a skeptic/devils advocate... did Sony really have full and or final say with this game. It is called Marvel’s Spider-Man, so it’ll go in the β€œm” section of your library.

With this not being a game being based on their movie, with word that marvel came to them, maybe because of how they treated the Movie IP so badly since 3 and the two Garfield flicks I think they were pretty open and trusting, with full faith in Insomniac to do the IP justice.

Still find it odd and kinda sad other console and pc players are sol.

I’ll probably by Tetris Effect before I buy this... still haven’t beaten BoTWs main quest :(

Not sure what "full and final say" would mean in this context, exactly. They formed the deal, they published and financed the game, and they oversaw its development.

In one way, the point of the article is that they did NOT have the final (or even the middle) say. They trusted the developer to do what is right. Of course, I'm sure they were checking in periodically on development, and had it just been a collosal trainwreck, they would've intervened, but Insomniac is a good developer. They trusted them. This is a theme with Sony -- they trust their devs; they give them lots of freedom and support.

You can see it in that quote: "Any time I wanted to do something, and I wanted to make some drastic change, it was just like, 'Okay'. I never heard about anything. It was just like, 'Go do it.' The question was, 'Is it gonna make the game better?' and I'd say, 'Yep', and they'd go, 'Okay', and that would be the last time I'd hear about it."

Sony is known for that respectful, trustful, hands-off approach. It is what has helped them create a great set of developers and a strong library of games.

Did you buy a pro out of curiosity?

If MS hadn't released the One X I wouldn't own an Xbox this gen and while I like the graphical upgrades for 3rd party games I really couldn't recommend someone buy a One X if they already own a Pro, yes the (3rd party) games look better but it's not a difference that's worthy of a $500 initial investment plus spending money on gold etc. I have played some of their first party stuff since buying it and honestly I can't believe how badly the single player portions of their games have degraded. Halo 5 and Gears had awful single player campaigns, they don't seem to know how to tell interesting stories anymore. I'm glad Sony focuses mostly on single player (even though they do try with MP) because there is already a ton of 3rd party MP content out there.

MS buying new studios is nice but they were mostly smaller studios and a few already only worked on Xbox games anyway so we'll see where that leads. Them putting everything out on GP leads me to believe that any single player narrative driven games that they invest in next gen will be fairly small in scale or episodic, people can just sign up for GP for a month and drop it after they finish the game. That's why I think that regardless of the lip service that they'll continue to focus on service based games to keep people subscribed to GP and just throw some SP stuff out there to say they have it. Of course there is the rumor of a new fable but let's see if they keep it a single player style game or try again to make it some kind of online MP game.

I really doubt I'll be buying an xbox again, I'm open to it if they do prove me wrong and really put some effort into high quality single player games but I'm not counting on it.

When you scale a tall building and look across the city, its amazing how much clarity the distant buildings and objects have. I can see all sorts of details literally miles away. Of course, they're using some tricks, but its very convincing, more than any other open world game has ever done. Best visuals this generation for me.

Finished the game, That final fight in HDR made my eyes orgasm :hehe:

This was such a fun game, i adored the combat and i am so close to platinuming it so should be easy one to get

Such a fun game. Been busy so haven't played much of it but what i did play was awesome. Insomniac delivered and i feel really bad for anyone still talking about puddles or how the game has been done before.
