I kinda have to agree.

He's way off on what most people in the US have for internet speeds, as of 2017 the average connection was 18.7mbps lol. I'm sure the average connection in big cities is much faster but it's also pretty expensive. I have a 300mbps connection and it costs me around $100 a month.

Otherwise pretty solid video.

I thought the whole point of a subscription service would be that you paid for the service and got to play the games they had on offer, this is basically making payments on a console and still having to buy every game you play but not actually getting to own any of it.

Google Stadia is even worse than DD only and 24 hour check in's. Goes to show how many gamers are brainwashed.

I live outside of town in a medium city in the middle of Texas, and I just got fiber. I pay 80 for 250, but I could go as high 1Gbs for a hundo...

Nice, I live in LA county about 13 miles from downtown LA, it's crazy how internet speeds differ so much from place to place. I know a long time ago Verizon who was my DSL provider was promising to put FIOS in our area, well they ended up cancelling that plan because it costs so much to build out and now they aren't even doing wired internet or phone service in my area anymore. I switched to Time Warner a few years ago and the service was much faster and also more reliable than my DSL which always went out of service when it rained lol, TW is now Spectrum and the service where I live is really reliable but I do hear a lot of complaints from people who have them in other areas.

It had been unclear whether these games would cost full-price on Stadia, given you're simply streaming them as opposed to buying a disc or downloading the game onto a hard-drive. But in a roundtable interview with UK games press this morning, attended by Eurogamer, Stadia chief Phil Harrison indicated Stadia games will cost the same as they do on other platforms such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One - that is, they won't be cheaper.

"I don't know why it would be cheaper," Harrison replied when Eurogamer asked.

So, how does Stadia justify charging full-price for a video game you can only stream? By making it available to play on any screen, Harrison said.

"The value you get from the game on Stadia means you can play it on any screen in your life - TV, PC, laptop, tablet, phone," he said. "I think that is going to be valuable to players."

That, and, "In theory, the Stadia version of a game is going to be at the highest-possible quality of innovation and sophistication on the game engine side."

Don't expect games to be cheaper on Google Stadia

(excerpts; see link below for full article)

"Two options are available for those interested in the video game streaming service: an ÂŁ8.99 a month subscription, due out this November, or a free version, due out in 2020.
Stadia Pro gets you up to 4K resolution and access to a growing library of games (including Destiny 2). Stadia Base gets you up to 1080p resolution, but there's no access to the library of games.

With both options, however, you have to buy new games outright. In fact, that's how you get access to most games available on Stadia. If you have a Pro subscription, you have to pay for the game on top. If you have the free version, you're just paying for the game.

... Google Stadia - like Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass and Sony's PS Now - is thought of by many as a potential "Netflix for games". With Netflix, of course, people pay a subscription fee and gain access to everything that's on the service. When a big new show or a new film is added to Netflix, customers don't have to pay again to access them.

But Stadia Pro subscribers will be asked to pay to access new games when they're made available on Stadia.

So, if you want 4K gaming and access to the library of games, you'll have to pay a monthly fee, and if you want a new game -- which you will only be streaming, not owning -- you'll have to pay full price. No thanks!

All the disadvantages of paying retail for games bundled with the inconvenience of streaming them at an extra cost? Phil Harrison has sure been good at finding the right side of the industry by being dead-ass wrong himself.

Can Google make everyone hate them even more? Yes, they can. Lol

So let's see here. $10 a month for top end Stadia package. Generations have been lasting about 7 years lately, so you are paying $840 for Stadia for a console generation. Not to mention you don't own the hardware, so you can't even sell it off for $100 when it gets close to the end of a generation.

This sounds like one of the worst deals ever.

So I'd have to pay a subscription fee AND full retail price for games? This is DOA.

One of the worst deals ever in the history of deals, maybe ever.

I'm not expecting much of anything from stadia. Nothing I've heard so far even piques my interest....

"It is a long term view that Google is taking," Raymond stresses. "For a big bet and a huge new IP that's going to fully leverage the cloud, it may be several years. But we do have quite a few exclusive games in the works that will demonstrate some of the exciting things about the platform all along the path. It won't be four years before gamers get to see the new exclusive, exciting content. There will be some coming out every year, and more and more each year."

Exclusives? Interesting.
