Star Citizen

Yep. It appears so.. from that trailer seems like it has a lot of features that KZ:SF has. But they are 2 different games with different scenarios. SC is in outter space where there isn't much to render. In KZ:SF, you are on a planet with a lot to think about in terms of rendering.

Star Citizen has crowd funded over $100 million and is a very ambitious title. It is currently in develop and have recently released Alpha 2.0 that includes interplanetary travel and FPS.

I backed this game a while ago because I've always wanted a great open universe space simulator game but did not play it as it was super early. I am going to give a try again this weekend and hopefully get time to post impressions.

Here is some recent footage:

Also, VR support will be coming in future iterations as well. Anyone playing this? What do you think?

The geme looks impressive for sure. But I'm worried about which aspect of the game will get more focus. I don't want the space fighting to be totally awesome but the first person shooting to be totally not awesome.

It certainly has ambition and scope and I really hope it succeeds. But $100 million is a s*** TON of money to be given by your fans. Let's hope it's put to good use and its backers get their money's worth in a timely fashion.

Also, is this a game where you can buy your success? I've heard that some players have spent literal thousands of dollars on powerful ships. How much does that affect progress in the game and your interactions with other players?

As far as I understand it, when the game finally launches you will no longer be able to buy ships with real money. You'll have to earn them in-game like anybody else. If you spend money on the game now you'll get a headstart, but new players will soon catch up.

I do agree with what you said though, about the focus on certain parts of the game. From what I've seen they want to make every part of the game in-depth and detailed. Doesn't matter if it's the space combat or ground combat, or the mining process or simply turning a ships power back on. They're trying to avoid simple point and click stuff, which is cool but creates a kind of crazy amount of work to do.

This game is what I always envisioned a PC only game to accomplish. Visuals and scale, as well as nigh on unlimited freedom! Very awesome. It would be great to see them adopt the FPS control scheme and movement base used in battlefield or something. Then have a totally different set up for when you are flying, etc.

I need a new PC :(

Please release this for consoles. At $100 million, you can afford to engineer and optimize for them.

The game is in development still but is the best looking game I've ever seen. Alpha 2.0 is just based around one planet with a space station, several satellites that you can get out of your ship to explore and multicrew ships.
There is a lot of fud being spread about the game because of its crowdfunding success imo. I've been a backer since 2013 and have followed the development very closely. The attention to detail is second to none. People say things like "it's taking to long" "it's a scam" "it's vaporware".
Alpha 2.0 has proven to me that this game is on track. Being able to walk around a moving ship with your friends is a real achievement, they have to have a separate instance inside and outside but you can see other players walking aroung their ships from yours.
The Persistent Universe is still 2-3 years from being completed imo but you no what they say about good things.
I could talk all day about this game but here's a recent video uploaded by Frankie on PC. It gives you a good idea of what's available currently, well worth a watch.

I've been looking forward to it but I'll wait until it's finished and build a new PC.

Definitely the best thing to do. The wait is excruciating, if you can forget about it for a couple of years, you'll come back to find something very very special. I'm trying to do the same.

I'd love to buy it but I'm holding off. I know when the Kickstarter first went live is pretty much day 1 for development but I've got Elite Dangerous to play anyways.

It really isn't. There's over 300 devs working on this game and it's doing stuff no other game has come close to.
The funding model isn't for everyone but just take a look of what's being achieved here. No cheating, no load screens, absolutely phenomenal. There's no other game that I've seen that comes close to what's been done here.

Gamescom 2016 live event. Mind blowing.

The funding model was "sorry but we completely lied to you about honouring refunds."

When I first backed in 2013, as far as I knew, there wouldn't be any refunds. I understood there was no guarantees with the game and it might not come and that it might not come out at all. I certainly don't think not allowing refunds when people donate money to the game development when staff have to be hired, development space rented, equipment bought on basis of pledged money makes it a scam.
If people don't want to back the game, that's fine, I certainly don't think people should be able to then decide months down the line when their money they pledged has been invested in the game development that they should be able to decide they want their money back.
They're not preordering a game, they're donating to the development. I certainly don't think CIG changing the terms for backers that come in later makes it a scam. Don't forget, when they change the terms of donation, it's only applicable to donations pledged after the terms were changed.

There were clearly defined terms on refunds back in 2013 regardless of whether or not you read. And this actually does affects those who originally pledged money to the game as well. The video reports all of this if you give it a quick watch.

I have watched it and it doesn't affect those who originally pledged as it shows on the actual ToS shown on the video (the one with a black background and not the reddit document). It states in brackets at bottom of ToS
(Pledges made under previous Terms of Service continue to be governed by the corresponding clause of of the Terms of Services, or of the commercial terms, as applicable which were in effect at the time of making the pledge.)

Which makes the whole video clickbait, they haven't shafted anyone, just changed the terms of service for any pledges made after the change and certainly doesn't make it a scam.

Do me a favour though and if you get some time, give the video of last nights Gamescom presentation a watch, CIG really have more or less achieved technically at least what they promised and many said couldn't be done. The whole sequence is seamless, no load screens, all space, you can actually fly at cruise speed to these places if you had time. Honestly it's imo the best thing I've ever seen on a technical level at least in 30 years of gaming.

Oh ok. I missed that. But yeah I know the preview builds are still awesome and all. I try to follow this game pretty closely just because. They do have a lot of the features all working. But from what I've seen, they still need to polish nearly all of the "inbetweens" if that makes sense.

Yeah don't get me wrong, there's times I've been pulling my hair out with some of the decisions they've made during development but there is no question in my mind they're trying there best to make this happen. The MMO side has imo at least another 3 years to go before they implement a lot of what's promised but as Chris Roberts said yesterday, the further they get into development, it speeds up exponentially. A lot of the templates that take lots of development time are done. They've got tons of locations already done, now they've got the template down for the planets and the tools in engine, they can start knocking out the other Star Systems pretty quick.
Have to stop myself rambling on sorry, I have bored friends to death talking about the development of this game.
Anyway hopefully one day in the next few years we might be able to link up and do a couple of missions together in the Verse together.

I'll take another look at in 2 years from now.

Here is the Gamescom presentation. Incredible stuff. It's crazy how in-depth the multiplayer and physical world is. The part where they land and one guy gets out and walks throughout the base while the other guy pilots the ship and watches through the windows is amazing. I love how ambitious it is!

The developer has never made comments about it coming to consoles. Consoles may also be too weak to run it.

Chris Roberts has always from day one never ruled out consoles and said that he would develop for PC first and wouldn't hold the came back with consoles in mind. Recently one of the devs said they had squadron 42 running on a PS4. There isn't a chance in hell this game is not coming to consoles at some point. If they achieve what they're hoping, they'll sell 20 million $60 games between Xbox/PS. Do you really think any one in their right mind is going to turn down $1.2 billion in revenue?
NEO and Scorpio would run run this game no problem, even if that meant 900p 30fps which I wouldn't have a problem with. (I think they could do 1080 no probs).
Poor performance so far has come fron networking problems (new netcode releasing with 3.0) not gpu power. Arena Commander runs like a dream on systems less powerful than Neo/Scorpio.
