Has EA messed this up as badly as I am hearing?
I was looking forward to playing this game as I never got the chance with the first one

Eh... Forget it actually. I just heard the sort of upgrade advantages you can get in this game over new players. Upgrades to your character/ship shouldnt make you so much more powerful than new players; it should be about skill first and foremost.

Here we are, a month after the release of what is meant to be a AAA game, hoping that they will remove enough of the pay to win features to make the game tolerable enough to play.
No. I will never play this game. Too late.
The big problem now is the awful lag and what I'm guessing is small player numbers. Microtransactions are gone... but so are all the players.

There was a thread on Resetera (the new neogaf) saying under 900k physical copies. Who knows though, maybe the lag is just lag. I had to quit playing this weekend because it was unplayable. Constant rubber banding (not the one on my controllers)

I looked at the most played on X1 and its just outside the top 10. Figured it would be higher but that isn't low enough for the game to be dead online.
Yeah who knows, maybe the netcode is just terrible. I've had no problems finding 20v20 games. The weird thing is certain games are fine while others are completely unplayable.
Kasshyyk is the map with the most lag / rubber banding issues people have reported, been like that since launch. I assumed it had been fixed, ran almost perfectly when I played on it several times this weekend. I had no other lag issues, maybe it’s dependent on region or ping.

Now that you mention it that's the one that gets me. I was playing fine this weekend until that map. I'd run 3 steps then it was like someone force pulled me backwards. Hopefully they fix it. Now that I think about it, most of my lag has been on that map.
I do have to find the right sub reddit as the one I had bookmarked is dead and just has F* EA posts all over.

EA has bungled this whole mess. They still haven't even said what they are going to do. They should officially announce the microtransactions dead and celebrate all the free content people are getting. It is puzzling how bad these companies are at PR. Do they think they will be able to turn on transactions and not have the internet explode on them again?
From what I read, EA is reevaluating their plan for free content updates. The article said how EA had a plan to support BF2 with free dlc for 2 years. But that was based on high sales expectations in line with the first game. The problem is this sequel has sold much less than the first game. By some estimates BF 2 is down to half the sales the first game did during the same time frame at retail. And in turning off the microtransaction faucet of revenue there is no new money coming in to justify free updates. The article is filled with anonymous sources and theory so who knows what's really going on.
As for this game. Its official I prefer blaster heroes over saber heroes. When I say heroes I mean the villains too. There have been times when I can go on a nice killstreak with Maul or Rey. But I have to play so damn careful. On the other hand with a blaster hero like Han, Bosk, or even a Death Trooper I can at times go on these huge killstreaks. Leia is a beast if used correctly, her blaster does a ton of damage.
Now that I think about it its probably a playstyle thing. A saber hero needs to be upfront and in the face of the enemy and I haven’t quite mastered how to get in and out quickly enough like I’ve seen others do. But a blaster hero is a ranged class that suits me just fine.
The Saber heroes need some type of lock on feature otherwise you just start swinging wildly and can't keep track of anyone, I know that would seem unfair but being that they can't fight well from a distance I think it would balance it out a bit. I just played my first few matches of Heroes vs Villains the last few days and the saber battles really look bad simply because of how they play out. It also was the first time I came across what I can only assume are people using that rubber band trick on the controllers, characters not playing the game just walking in circles and that was really frustrating.
I guess I lucked out, this last weekend was the first time I ever got to play on that map and I really liked it.

Which is why they need to do something now to get some positive PR and hope to get some holiday sales. Their planned revenue is gone one way or another. Only way to salvage it now is announce free DLC and zero microtransactions for the life of the game, then put the thing out for $40 at the holiday digitally and hope people jump.
This is my big problem with the internet rage machine - they get a game changed... and don't buy it anyway.
Only hero I've done ok with is Boba Fett. His jet is great for when you get rushed by another hero.

Standing up for good consumer practice is not the problem. The problem is greed. I’m sorry that it was a Star Wars game where the line got drawn but I’m glad that the line was drawn.
Yeah that too, but my point is EA needs to get people actually buying the game and they need to do it fast. The movie hype is obviously going to explode. There should be a nice article from them talking about the game.

Last Jedi Season update is out, we should have the new maps and heroes. It also included several stability improvements (supposed to have helped fix some of the lag / rubber banding), and balancing for heroes and beginner trooper classes (all slots unlocked?).
New map may be my least favorite game play wise and visually. Maybe it'll grow on me, but I'm a bit let down by it. Haven't played as either of the new heroes, but they both seem like they could be pretty cool in the right situations. Glad they were both free, was able to use the credits to unlock 3 other heroes I didn't have yet (Chewie, Leah, and the Emperor).
