I was really looking forward to this title. Admittedly I’ve been too hooked on Borderlands 3 to take notice of much else in gaming lately. But I think I’ll soon need a break from the original loot-shooter so I’ve been doing some research into Fallen Order.

The game just doesn’t seem to have the depth of past Jedi based games. I went looking for info on force abilities and its been stated that in Fallen Order there are only 3 of them……..Just 3 force talents is way too little. Force Unleashed 1 had like 6 if I remember correctly and the Jedi Knight games had somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-8.

No force grip, no mind trick, no force enhanced jump/movement/speed buffs. The lack of force lightning or lightning shield I guess I can understand as its cannon that its only used by Dark Side practitioners but there have been exceptions like the badass Jedi Kyle Katarn.

I hope I’m just making the wrong assumptions and there is a fun game to be had. But what I’ve stated above doesn’t get me all that excited. I think its my fault, I wanted a successor to Jedi Knight but the devs never set out for that goal and so my desires for a Jedi game would have never been fulfilled by this game.

It's good. It's like Dark Souls, Titan fall, and Uncharted Had a baby...

My biggest complaint about the game is the force powers too. You just don't feel like a Jedi as you play. It's weird how they mixed up genre's in the game, where to me it doesn't feel like a jedi game. To be honest, not really my type of game, the whole Dark Souls gameplay, but it breaks the world to have random Stormtroopers going toe to toe with you, or killing wild animals that randomly attack you out of no where.

The controls are off to me, or I'm just really bad. I just can't get fluid with the battle system. Probably because they want me to fight a certain way, but I want to be a Jedi. I felt like Titanfall 2 was just much more fluid than this game.

The story is great, but the gameplay just isn't my favorite.

I got the sound glitch once, last night I was playing and heard a loud pop, lost all sound but could hear a loud hum from the speakers, it’s go away if I pressed the home button.

I don't own this game yet, but I get a similar sound bug on other games on Xbox. COD is doing it to me once in awhile. I find that if I actually close out the game, I get a lot fewer bugs. Leaving games in that stand by state is supposed to work, but it occasionally causes problems. Just highlight the game on the main screen, hold the Xbox button and select "close". Again, not sure if it will work for this as I don't own it yet, but it sounds similar to what I see in other games.

The force powers are just used for combat but also exploration and lead to shortcuts. The game uses force abilities really cleverly in my opinion and the upgrade skill tree is good too. In Star Wars the jedi's are not always using force in battle they are using their lightsaber and agility which is what this game does. I would say this is the most authentic jedi game because you really have to use everything at your disposal to kill enemies and explore. I also just want to the level design is superb. Zeffo and Kashyyk especially are impressive and much bigger than I anticipated.

The only negative I have found so far regarding the maps, is retracing back through them. Luckily, as you said, you eventually open up shortcuts though.

Guys, I don’t own the game and it does look good. I just wish there was more depth to the combat with added force abilities and saber combos. This obsession with Dark Souls is getting tiresome because it doesn’t work for every action/ adventure title.

I’m ok with borrowing certain elements from past games. I was just disappointed in what I’ve seen with the limited amount of force powers and lack of any real free flowing combo system for use with the iconic laser sword. The game doesn’t even sport a toggle for dismemberment, from what I’ve seen only animals/robots can be sliced in half but human limbs never go flying. And WTF is up with all the ice/mud sliding around the environments, hahaha. How about a little less Tomb Raider/ Uncharted and more sci-fi/fantasy gameplay.

I still plan on getting this game but I’m glad I waited and will continue to wait for a sale.

The controls in the game aren't the best, the left stick controls are way too sensitive and the camera is really bad during combat, often times I can't even see my character if I get close to a wall because the camera gets stuck in a position behind me where it can't adjust and I'm out of view. The random frame drops are annoying as well and I don't know why they are happening because it's usually when nothing is going on. There are also the odd hiccups here and there when it's loading something as well as textures building in. I'm playing on the internal drive too which DF said would help mitigate those problems. I do like the game but I wish those things were better.

I’m really enjoying it. It’s not the most original title taking a lot from Uncharted and Tomb Raider, but with it just works so very well with the Star Wars settings.

Glad I didn’t get his copy^ whew

I've had the game crash to the dashboard twice today, both times were when a notification about an achievement had just come through so I turned those off. I should have done that a long time ago anyway, I don't care about that stuff and it always annoys me when they pop up during the game lol.

Do you have it installed on an external? Apparently this has issues on external HDs. I know my copy has a lot less stutters now that I've moved it to my internal drive...

No it's on the internal, my external wasn't working when I bought the game, I thought it had died already but after the system update the console recognized it again. Thanks for asking though, I had already known that but if I hadn't it would have been nice to have been made aware.

I’ve about 40 hours played and I’m using an external drive. I haven’t had one crash to date. It can get choppy in places though. I’d like to see them move from the Unreal engine and use something different if they make a sequel.

Frostbite perhaps...

Frostbite perhaps...

There are some stories going around about that being a difficult engine to use, but maybe that was specific to FIFA. Snowdrop is another engine that might work for them.

Bioware still can't get their head around frostbite.

I have yet to find this game on sale anywhere on Black Friday. It must be very good! I wasn't expecting much, but I figured maybe $10 off.

Amazon and Walmart have the deluxe version for $50 which isn't terrible (physical only though).

I'll probably wait for Xmas. I've got enough games in my backlog anyway.

Amazon product

Isn't snowdrop a Ubisoft developed engine? I don't think they license it out to other parties like UE or Cryengine...

Just picked up the game today though and got to the first planet. Had to work but will be puttin' time in over the weekend...
