Star Wars Rogue Squadron

Doubt it. The difference there is that CoD Warzone is a free game where people when they are banned could just make another account. I don't think this is going to be a FTP game and therefore much more risk if caught cheating.
Still need a console only option in every cross platform game.

As someone who used to play a lot of Xeing vs Tie Fighter, this has me intrigued. I see that they have the option to balance you systems power between engine, shields, and weapons. It also looks like you can adjust your shields so they are double front, double back, or balanced. I was not expecting to see that return and was expecting a completely arcade experience.

I hope we get some more details of how their systems work soon.

Wait, I don't get this game at all!

They have a trailer that shows gameplay, tells you in detail the game modes, what you can unlock & explain Single player & MP.

Why can't they just show some nice CGI animation that explains a little about the game as they can, like other games?

The VR part isn't just a port, it was developed along with the normal game. It's the full treatment too, singleplayer and multiplayer. This is surprisingly my most anticipated next to Iron Man.

Cheating is only part of the problem. Better fps, better fov, mouse and keyboard. The entire reason I play most games on my console is a level playing field.

I want to play on console with the rest of the casuals on the controller. If I wanted to play against mouse and keyboard, I may as well use the best platform myself.

I'm not looking for a top tier competitive experience full of hardcore players. I just want to have some fun and console is the best place for that.

The only thing that kept COD from being a total mess was the heavy skill based matchmaking. For awhile, the game at least kept me with other controller players, but now that the population is smaller, I'm running into top tier players on mouse who I have zero chance of competing with.

EA Access is also on PS4...
I had no idea. I thought Sony was against it, but I guess they must have changed their mind? I suppose you would have to pay for each version separately?

every so often it, EA Access, goes on sale less then third asking price...i know on Xbox EAs discounts stack with any other promotions that are on live, gold or other event sales.

I'm really liking this. Probably will only keep me busy for a month or two, but that's not bad for $40. I like that you actually have to aim and there's some skill involved. Too many space games aim for you, or give you an aiming point which takes a lot of skill out of it.

I'm guessing the power is like the old games. You get X amount of power to distribute to 3 systems. You can balance everything, or drain 2 to max one, etc.

I know people will hate not having 3rd person, but I'm glad they picked one and went with it. Having everyone in a cockpit puts everyone on a level playing field. Assuming the aiming actually takes skill, I think you're going to want that straight on perspective. Makes situational awareness matter a ton more.

I just hope they don't turn it into a leveling nightmare like Battlefront. Clearly this isn't a game people are going to want to grind for hundreds of hours just to unlock stuff.

This guy played it and if you skip to the latter half, he gets into the actual upgrades you can get. This would be my only worry about the game that they make it into a monster grind, and some kid with no life has every upgrade and can fly circles around me. This is the same thing they did with Battlefront and it really hurt the game. It is hard to tell though, as you may only be able to use so many upgrades.

The cosmetic customization looks neat. No microtransactions.

I got into the play test I'm not technically allowed to talk about.

Played well. Using a controller on pc, there was some auto aiming on the lasers, but that's probably more due to the story difficulty I chose. I enjoy that it hearkened back to the old Tie Fighter games with scanning freighters in the tutorial. Really like the "instruments only" hud option.
Power didnt seem to go much in increments, more just all in to weapons or engines (or shields, when it has those), or balanced. But at less than 2 hours played, there could easily be more to that later.

Flight focused games are never quite my thing, but I'll get it down the line, knowing me.

This should be a good way to pass the time for a month before next gen at least.

I just want to make sure that we can turn crossplay off and still have the game work.

So, this launches next Friday. It is only $35 if you have EA Play (or whatever it is branded today).

Some more details. Still no pay to win, which is good. I think the big concern is that it could be really "grindy". They seem to design these games assuming that you are going to put tons of hours into it and play nothing else.

What happened in Battlefront, they took away the pay to win (good), but the people who had more free time had a massive advantage. Seems like the ranked play might alleviate that. Us filthy casuals can stay in the low levels.

Still no word on next gen enhancements, so I'm guessing not. For $40 it seems unlikely.

Still not sure what platform I want this on. Not sure how this will play on console, but PC has other issues.

i don’t know ifEA are in the habit of adding next gen enhancements. Did they do that when X1X launched ? I can’t remember

My guess is it will come down to the success of this game. It is weird, this game looks tons of fun but something is holding me back from buying it, even for $35.

Plus, I can see this game being fun for a month or so and then getting lost in all the big fall launches.

We'll see, it is interesting as it looks like a deeper game with an actual learning curve. They are basically pulling the mechanics from the very old X-Wing Lucasarts games which work so well.

The other weird factor is supposedly there are zero microtransactions at all, even for cosmetics? That kind of tells me that future development will be limited.

Some more info on this. There seems to be zero hype for this game, which makes me hesitant to buy it?

Have it pre-ordered. It has a midnight launch here so i'll try the New Zealand timezone switch and see if I can play it tomorrow evening. I'll post some impressions after.
