It hasn't though. The XSX/S versions have maybe a year, but time is not a great stick to measure effort by anyway.

Cross gen is not a big hinderence to visuals.
Cross gen is a huge hindrance to visuals with the huge power gap/s between the hardwares.

Maybe it doesn't make 2021 so they can address this with a nice coat of paint.

True, especially considering it's on PC, which will probably knock the visuals out of the park. Then they scale down.

No it isn't. Nothing stopping them adding 4 or 8K textures. Nothing stopping them adding RT or improved lighting in general. Nothing stopping them addinh particles, etc. Nothing stopping them other than effort.

You think with much better CPU's and nvme SSD's drives that textures are the only possible differences?

Since i listed several things that seems like a pointless question.

And it seems you dont understand what effort means.

So one insider says it's essentially done, one insider says it's a lot further away than people think, so clearly the only possible answer is the game was cancelled.

Again, I dislike Schreier immensely. But I’m rolling with him on this one. He is doubling down hard, too.

Hope he’s full of s***, but this just further continues the ridiculous trend of games being announced way too early. Or maybe dev cycles are just truly being elongated by the rona to a very heavy degree.

Hope Elden Ring isn’t years away, speaking of vaporware.

Has nothing to do with rona. Games are just announced way too early. A game should be announced the year it intends to release.

Been preaching this forever.

I get the whole hype build thing, but announcjng games 5-6 years before launch is absurd.
That works when the studio has great resources and the team is fully staffed, and in those cases I agree. Sometimes, games need to be announced pretty early to attract talent or even catch the attention of publishers. In cases like that, I get the early announcements.

Alan Wake was having trouble getting a publisher until Remedy publicly announced it, for example. I also believe the reveal of "Perfect Dark" has attracted high-quality talent to The Initiative.

Yeah thats cool in those instances. Maybe even something like Avowed would fall into a special circumstance. Probably half a decade away, but Microsoft has to show people they are nutting up this gen with exclusives so they spilled the beans.

Speaking more about some egregious examples of this lately- obviously Starfield, also Elden Ring, some others. What makes it worse is when you announce the game and then show nothing for 3 years. Blizzard may have announced Diablo 4 too early, as I doubt that game releases before 2024, but at least they do quarterly updates, we see it gameplay wise at least once a year, etc.

Games like Elden Ring literally get announced with a minute long CG trailer and then go zero dark thirty to the point where they become a meme and we have to analyze s***ty leaked screens/footage YEARS after the announcement. No excuse in those cases IMO.

Elden Ring was definitely announced too early, especially given the development time expectations after From Software had been rapidly releasing great games year after year with Dark Souls/Dark Souls 2/Bloodborne/Dark Souls 3/Sekiro. Sekiro is only two years old, but we've been spoiled.

I wouldn't be surprised if Starfield was announced early to begin raising cash from potential marketing deals, possibly reduce the upcoming blow of Fallout 76 to their image, or as a company that probably knew it was looking to sell, increase bidding interest with another AAA title.

We may never know, but as a person who had been looking forward to Duke Nukem Forever since the 2001 trailer, I am inoculated from the pain of a long wait.

I do not know much about the game, except it looks underwhelming. In fact, I was LESS hype after seeing the visuals.

Bethesda just couldn't good graphics, can they?
