"When we first started working on State of Decay, we had a much bigger game, a much more persistent online game, and I know that Undead Labs will get there eventually, but by bringing them into the Microsoft family, I think we're able to accelerate that and get us there sooner which is great."

"In the case of Undead Labs, we absolutely want to go make State of Decay 3. That is a clear goal. That studio will have some other incubation, they'll work on some things, but this is a State of Decay 3 team."

State of Decay 2 was an underrated gem in my opinion. With MS backing and a new console to play with, State of Decay 3 should be the be all end all zombie survival game next gen. Can't wait to see what they cook up.

Tried SoD2 for maybe 5-10 hours with a friend and neither of us could get into it. Not a bad game by any means but just not for us.

Super under rated gem IMO. I just wish the Online Co-op was structured differently.

That would be seven years between announcement and release, but I can see it. Undead Labs is trying to make the jump from AA to AAA - they're going to need more time to hire and develop.

The Coalition are masters in UE, seeing as Rod Fergusson who worked for Epic Games previously headed their studio before he left for Blizzard.

Gears 5 was one of the best performing and looking Unreal Engine 4 games if not THE best.
The Coalition are tech wizards in general. How they got Gears 5 and the Hive busters dlc looking and playing on PC and consoles is a miracle to me.

UE5 just doesn't seem good...not this gen anyway.

It's still very early, the same could have been said about UE4 at the same point last Gen, but at the moment it's looking like this generation of consoles are too weak to support UE5 with all of its main features (VSM, Nanite, Lumen) enabled at high resolution and framerates. Engine optimization will get better though.

We'll see in 2024 with plenty of games coming using the engine. Like Stalker 2, Hellblade 2, Chrono Odyssey, Black Myth Wukong, Avowed, Ark 2, etc.

2023 has been a messy year for the engine. I just don't see it getting big enough improvements to rid UE5 games of some of the bigger issues, like really low internal res, poor upscaling, and spotty performance even after going so low with the resolution. Will FSR3 help? doubtful. Although the frame generation might help depending on how good it works and how drastic one can get with it.

Has FSR3 been implemented into Forsaken and Immortals of Aveum yet?

A better/more involved story would make SOD3 perfect. SOD2 nearly had everything. If they add a half decent story, we could be looking at a sleeper GOTY candidate.
