Valves Steam Deck

Looks uncomfortable.

I see this ending up in a similar situation to the Vita
The key difference being that the Vita was reliant on a specific game format. Even if they dropped specific support, you should still be able to update the OS and download games from Steam, assuming the hardware can handle the requirements.

Already got my pre-order on. Really looking forward to this. I don't even expect to run the highest end games, being more powerful than a switch as a handheld is more than enough in my book and I like my Nintendo Switch Lite as is. However, the lack of features/apps available on it is disappointing. Being able to play music/video files on the same handheld is gonna be fun on the bun.

I may end up getting one IF they ever become available in stores. Ordering expensive stuff online and expecting to receive it where I live is a dangerous game itself.

Before the Deck announcement, it wasn't a secret that he was at Valve HQ occasionally. Seems he goes there often. There's got to be something to it.

I'm sure once its in readily available supply it will be at gamestops and best buys.

And once you get one we do the dance of joy.

The launch of Steam Deck will be delayed by two months. We’re sorry about this—we did our best to work around the global supply chain issues, but due to material shortages, components aren’t reaching our manufacturing facilities in time for us to meet our initial launch dates.

Based on our updated build estimates, Steam Deck will start shipping to customers February 2022. This will be the new start date of the reservation queue—all reservation holders keep their place in line but dates will shift back accordingly. Reservation date estimates will be updated shortly after this announcement.

Again, we’re sorry we won’t be able to make our original ship date. We’ll continue working to improve reservation dates based on the new timeline, and will keep folks updated as we go.

When asked about the matter, Valve's response was short and clear. "No, that doesn't make much sense to us. It's a PC and it should just play games like a PC,"responded the company in the FAQ. To delve into Valve's comments a little further, upon launch, the Steam Deck will run a modified version of Valve's SteamOS - designed with a console-like interface that will allow players to easily navigate the Steam Store and their own Steam libraries.

Can you change the thread title? It's not Holiday of 2022. It's February of 2022.

Post impressions, whoever is getting one. I might pick one up way down the road, although I barely play the Switch. That might have to do with games and SD seems to offer more value.

I've got a pre-order in, but I don't think mine will be shipping until summer at least.

It's odd. Sites like giantbomb have recieved one but can't talk about it. They can only mention what's been mentored by the few people allowed to put videos up.
