As per the title is there a console worth having when it comes to PC mechanics ext? I don't own a PC but have a Mac, Macbook and 2 Ipad's. What's the best way for somebody like me to get the best out of gaming?
PC specific games maybe?I did some research and it doesn't look as if you can buy a steam machine thats games perform any better then the consoles versions we have currently. I thought there would be a steam machine available that would allow ultra graphics and games that would stand out in regards to console versions.
I don't understand why anyone would choose a steam machine over a console? the price ext makes it a silly decision unless I am missing something.
PC specific games maybe?
I'd consider a Steam Machine if it was able to play the whole Steam library, but from what I hear, they can only play a fraction of it, less than half.
Is Steam OS Linux or Android? That's Steam OS. However you can build a mini ITX box and run Steam in big picture mode that will work with any game. That's what I do, just minus the miniITX form factor.

What?? Is this the truth?I'd consider a Steam Machine if it was able to play the whole Steam library, but from what I hear, they can only play a fraction of it, less than half.

Ahh ok! Thanks for the reply dude!I wouldn't rely on me as the source of truth for anything PC-related. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
As far as I understand things (and that is not far -- others will no doubt correct me), Steam Machines use an OS that is based on Linux, rather than the Windows-based version that most Steam games run on. Gabe wants everyone to port their games to the Linux version, but so far only a fraction of them have been ported. I have heard numbers something like 600 Linux games vs. 3600 in the whole Steam library.
Now, the wrinkle is that you can apparently run the other games (3000 other, non-Linux ones) on a Steam Machine. However, how that works, whether they would be controller enabled or you'd need to use a mouse & keyboard, or whether it'll work on all Steam machines or just some, I don't know.
Hopefully someone who knows what they're talking about will clarify.

When are steam machines actually coming out! Seems real quiet at the moment........
Just build a microATX or miniITX system and run Steam in big picture mode which gives you a nice console esque dashboard.
So, the Alienware Steam machines kick off at $480. It is only rocking a Dual Core i3 and 4GB ram. No speciics on GPU other than 2GB vram.
Alternate's Machine kicks of at $1100 and only has an i3 & a 750Ti GPU.
Digital Storm's kicks off at $700 and has an Intel Pntium G3220, but it does have a GTX 960 & 8GB ram. That CPU is a kick in the balls though.
I buy power's kicks off at $460 with a Athlon X4 840 & R7 1GB 250x.
You can view all the machines here...http://store.steampowered.com/sale/steam_machines
These machines are exactly What I expected and called. Overpriced and mostly terrible.( I didn't look at all of them)
If you want to game in this day and age you need a minimum i5, 8GB, R9 270 or GTX 760. A R9 270X, i5 3470, 8GB ram, 550w 80 plus certified corsair PSU, and a $80 Motherboard will set you back $550. All you have to add is a case of you liking and a disc drive, should you need one.
I see no reason why anybody would buy one of these. In fact, if you buy one of these then I think you're a bit of a silly billy.
