Anyone buy it? It has an assist mode which might lure me in.

Anyone?

I might get it, was super busy at work to have time for gaming.

For some context, I am an Automotive developer & this period is like a beta release. Prepare product to turn into physical form. Once it's in physical form (in form of tooling molds), the modification will be hard & costly.

A while ago, a team made some small mistake & cost us over a million dollars. The reason being the whole car production stopped for a week for our parts to fit into the car, & we have to compensate for their lost.

So I have to make sure everything is as flawless as possible (unlike game developers). The schedule CANNOT be shifted (unlike game development), or it cost $$$ & future business.

My iRL work is challenging enough, I do not need to challenge myself playing single-player games.

Thing is. Once you figure out the Souls games they aren't hard. As a video once said the games are only as hard as you make them.

I would believe that. I think it comes down to time and patience. Both of which I don't have.

What does the Assist Mode do?

The Assist Mode allows you to change a few settings that only impact your character, not the world around you, in order to help you tackle the challenges the way you prefer.

How to activate the Assist Mode?

When you start a New Game, you are asked if you want to enable it or not.

Note that if you do enable it, you lose the possibility to earn some trophies that are linked to the challenge.

You can enable/disable the Assist mode at anytime in the option settings.

You can change 4 aspects of the gameplay

  • The Damage reduction.
  • Keeping or not your Anima Essence after death.
  • The Endurance regeneration Speed.
  • The easy cooling system.

Exactly. Some people play games for challenge. I already play BR which alraedy very competitive, as its last man standing. I also has alraedy a stressful & chellenging job, not to mention all the iRL nonsense to deal with.

When I play Solo game, I like to be chill, like watching TV.

In any case, it always nice that game have accessibility options. If poeple like to be challenge, they can do it, if they just want to play "Jornalists" mode, so be it.

Okay, I played for about 1.5 hours. The game is not easy, at least at the start. Got my S kicked multiple times from the first boss until I use the cheese tactic.

Supposedly game get easier when you upgrade your gear & use musket and grenade, but they are consumable & at least not as freely available at start.

There is a stamina bar of sorts so you cannot block or dodge, or sprint all day.

Visually, It is pretty. Better than souls games & Elden ring for sure.

I confess I use assist mode, but only the not lost essence (aka souls) after death. Make death less annoying. There are other assists like reduce damage which I resist using.

Okay, updated feedback.

The game gets BETTER after the starting 1-2 hours as you unlock more gears & consumables. Grenades & muskets are like a "mini" cheats as they are effective against even bosses. You can do damage over time with fire & lighting, & immobilized even bosses with petrified grenades. They come in limited supply thou.

Immobilize is very good in this game, & I play the dancer that focuses on immobilizing. The weapons all feel different & have their own unique attacks.

It used a dark soul/Eden ring system where your damage scale better with certain attributes than other. Make sure to use a weapon that scale well to your main attribute.

I think using the not-lose "souls" when you die is a nice starting point for people looking for a challenge but not wanting to get frustrated. Like dark souls, any run-of-the-mill mob (especially in numbers) can kill you if you are not careful. Also there are many things to upgrade & you need all the "souls"

But you do you. I like the accessibility options in this game.

Anyway, the game has a metromania feel, as in you explore the areas & unlock doors & passages as shortcuts to go back to a main save point. This is also very useful NOT to have to fight through the same mobs again to get to the next area. The exploration is also pretty fun.

I enjoy this game FAR MORE than Elden ring.

For people that enjoy Action rpg hack & slack, but was turn off by every hack & slack is a pain in the S "dark soul". This game is a good entry point.

If you think later you can do without assists, you can always turn them off.

Finally, about the graphics. I think I would say the game is a very good-looking game by cross-gen standard. The setting is subjective ,but I enjoy the alternative Paris/France in this game. Only issue is the characters are French....(its a joke)

16 hours of feedback.

The story actually okayish, & they touch on the question of how you become self-conscious, which is not like the others. Notice some chobbiness in some areas, but not too bad & can be improved. Encounter a small bug where I cannot pick up loot. But somehow resolved when you reset from a checkpoint, & only one location (so far).
You unlocked skills (air dash, grapple, & ram (use on mobs & doors) by beating the 3 major bosses (They called Titans) , allowing you to reach areas previously inaccessible, also improving movement ala Metroidvania games.

There is no local maps, so you need to use some memory, but the compass that points to key locations & distance helps a lot. Most mobs can be skipped if you need to just get from A to B. YOu easily outpace most mobs, & they have fixed zone, & will stop chasing when out of zone. You can use this also to your advantage when overwhelmed.

You can fast-travel from one main area to another but NOT within an area. It can be a Pain in the S if you forgot a major loot & return to pick them up.
Advice is to be through as much as the possible first time.

How hard is the game? The regular mobs I think is a similar ballpark with soul-like games, but the boss is general ballpark of standard non-soul games.
That is you do not use grenade spam.
There is also accessibility options that can greatly make the game easier like damage reduction. I heard it can even go to zero basically god mode.

And the most important question is, is the game still awesome after 16 hours? Hell yeah, easily one of my favorite games I play this year, together with Outrider, & edging Tiny Tina Wonderlands.

One thing I like (compare to Tiny Tina) is no BS collectibles. The experience of Tiny Tina was hammered by constantly seeking often hard-to-find collectibles. This can be said of Ubisoft open-world games. They do not show on the map (loot luck dices) after you picked them up.

There are loots that required exploration, for sure, but the areas are confined so they are not as annoying than open every pixel of a world map.

Anyway, I tried to slow down a little so as not to burn out. Limited amount of hours of play. The 16 hours for a weekend was not usual. I probably play 1-2 hours on average on weekdays.

Finally got around to playing it this afternoon. Its quite good. The combat is very precise and the overheating mechanic is well done. The balance is a little off though. The Solider class makes it the game (so far) pretty easy whereas the Alchemist I was struggling with because of having to get in so close. So far I would say if you like Souls style rpg games this is definitely worth picking up.
