Strange gamer survey video. Lack of good MS marketing/messaging?

I debated putting this in the multi console section since it is sort of related to both consoles, however the results are more of a bad sign for MS. Potentially. The misinformation in this video is so bad, it's like watching a Tea Party/OWS video, lol.

Just kind of puzzled by this video. Makes me wonder:
- Are these people just fanboys?
- Is MS not getting the message across that they are "for the gamers" and have reversed DRM?
- Is it just cool to like Sony and hate MS?
- Is this just a dumb one off video that should just be ignored?
- Some combination of the above?

Thoughts?

Last week I mentioned something about Xbox to a buddy of mine and he quickly said like why are you gonna buy that? You can't even buy used games or lend games to friends. I was like dude they changed that months ago and he refused to believe it. On one end I guess it's MS fault in the first place but on the other end it's that people are just straight up dumb. Also the things that Sony is for "gamers" and MS is TV TV TV is just pure exaggeration. Just because MS wants to make the Xbox more than a gaming console doesn't mean it's less of a gaming console than the PS4. Actually when it comes to games Xbox is just owning PS4 right now, and it will continue once Titanfall gets released, Quantum Break, Halo 5, Black Tusk game. MS is delivering on every aspect. I guess it's also that since the reveal the cool thing has been to bash Xbox and praise Sony, and you know how much people get swayed for what they think society finds acceptable.

Also find it funny when they talk about what games are they most anticipated for. Answer to Xbox: Halo (exclusive). Answer to PS: Kingdom Hearts 3 (guy didn't know it wasn't exclusive), Destiny (multiplatform), Infamous whatever the new is called (*facepalm*).

Don't you feel you have the answer already?

Not really. The average person on an internet forum keeps up to date on the latest gaming news. The average person going to Comic-Con probably doesn't. They probably are a better representation of the average consumer than a forum goer. So if this video represents the average consumer, MS is in trouble.

I see a little bit of irony there, though if I was in America I might have hit that place at least for once.

'Average person' has rarely heard a word on the next-gen until like October.

Microsoft did indeed shoot themselves in the foot out of the gate. I mean, I've seen some falls. Then we have E3. But overall since, their marketing has somewhat stepped it's game up. Hell, I've seen a myriad of Xbox commercials on AMC during The Walking Dead, Revolution, NFL Sunday during the games and even QVC (laugh it up bitches). So I dunno, it's going to be interesting.

Their DRM issues and message really hurt their reputation. They are going to have to work to get it back. It's really that simple.

The best thing they can do is to ensure a steady stream of exclusives both old and new IPs for the rest of the generation and not drop off a few years in to just tried and true games that are multi-million sellers.

Games will always get people to drop money on the console no matter how bad their reputation is.

I agree, this "average" person probably didn't even know new consoles were announced nor what their policies were. It really doesn't take much investigation to see you can play used games on the X1 so you'd have to be really in the dark to have no idea.

Your first instinct is to call people who aren't interested in an Xbox "fanboys" and "hating MS"? And calling people dumb when they don't have the time or interest to keep up with MS's 180s? The "tv tv tv" thing is a direct result of their initial reveal. MS made a bad first impression and it's going to take a while to live that down.

You don't attract customers by insulting them and telling them not to buy your product. I see this same stuff on neowin.net with posters insulting and blaming the large majority of customers who don't want Windows 8, phones, or tablets.

I'll go ahead and move this to the Multi section, Preventer, because they really do talk more about the PS4 than the X1.

And my answer to your question is: it's Akron.
