Streets of Rage 4

I finished this game on the 2nd day, it's a good time and a nice throwback. Adam and Floyd were the two I liked the most, I thought I'd like Axel a lot but for some reason I found him harder to use.

I agree about Axel. He is a little slower than Adam and doesn't have Floyd's "smash two together" move, so he is more difficult to use in a crowd.

Axel always been my favorite, he's definitely the Ryo of this series though, some find that boring. Remember being in awe seeing him on the covers way back, he looked godly with his jeans, bandana and sleeveless shirt.
Been replaying the whole series (and some Beats of Rage mods on my DC) on my Mega Drive with an Everdrive and was surprised that I've changed my opinion on the ranking.

SOR4 > SOR2 > SOR3 > SOR1

SOR1 - looks ancient lol, controls are clunky and animations looks bad. Music is okay though. Level design is uninspired and bland.

SOR2 - Amazing graphics, prob my favorite pixelated game from that era in that regard. Levels are just long enough and there's a great balance in the difficulty modes. The music is easily best in the series and much of SOR4 echoes this soundtrack. Controls are very slow when comparing to SOR3 and 4 but after a level or two it feels natural, it's much more tactical than 3.

SOR3 - Always had this in higher regard than 2, and in some areas it's an evolution; controls are great, it's so much faster than 2 and there's a sprint and vertical dodge that gives a new dimension to the gameplay. It looks great, maybe not much better than 2, it actually looks a bit blurrier imo but there's some nice effects like night and day cycles while moving through some levels and such. The level design is worse than 2, there's less continuous scrolling while moving and almost always one screen at a time until you get the "go" text and you move into the next static background.... maybe because of the running making it technically impossible idk.
The music is AWFUL lol, I'm not sure what happened here, it's that bad.
I've played both the European/US version and the Japanese. Had to play EU/US on easy while playing JAP on normal was easier than that lol.
I actually like the yellow black version of Alex better than the old white and blue that the JAP version has. Otherwise it's not really any different (except you can't go past lvl 5 on easy on EU version, had to cheat directly to lvl 6 to be able to see it through) other than the story being a bit different.
Reason I changed my mind on this being inferior than 2 is the lvl design and music. I do like what they did with the controls though.

SOR4 - looks amazing, sounds amazing, plays amazing. A sprint for every character would imo be a good addition but otherwise this is as perfect a beat'em up gets.

I tried Blaze for the first time and she felt like I was cheating. OP as hell. After struggling through the game on normal, I did an entire playthrough with her and only had to use continue once.

Floyd is fun but his lack of speed gets him in trouble in some situations.

Really fun game. This is the way I'd like to see more remakes made. Hope the devs are allowed to keep making more. Going to beat this game with every character now.
