So I'm a new job hunter that just finished my college program filling out apps on different job boards. I get to the bottom of some ad on Craiglist and see this nonsense.

In 150 characters or fewer, tell us what makes you unique. Try to be creative and say something that will catch our eye!*

The most attention getting thing I could think of was that I Hacked my class. I've done ARP Poisoning and DNS Spoofing. This should be attention getting, but I wonder if this would be seen negatively.

Otherwise, I thought of just making up something. Like saying I wrote a program to divide by zero.

I personal hate that kind of question. I prefer them to actually see my work and then, after that, they can decide whether I'm unique or not. Reality-speaking, each person is unique and different. Some fast, some slow, some deep-thinker, some funny, etc. etc.

I'd try to turn it around into a positive. Say that you were able to exploit some security issues of your class and then worked with your professor to get them resolved.

The question may not be as stupid as you think.....But it's the 150 words thing that makes it stupid! How can you ask a person to describe himself with that few words? It's impossible! I hate these type of things and avoid these type of things during interviews.

It's stupid because it's to vague. Do they want to know something about me as it relates to IT or the job opening? Or just some quirky hobby? Or accomplishment?

I can almost guarantee they want to hear something that relates to the job opening or at least to what the company does in general.

150 characters, not words. Makes it almost impossible to say anything with any significance. I did an application that asked for the same thing but in poem format. WTF.

Edit: I found the poem on my drive somewhere. Use it if you want it.

Information technology, that was the day to day.

Then I went above and beyond, just look at my resume.

Technical skills, is where I excel.

But working with and helping others, is what I do well.

Solving problems and fixing issues, all part of the occupation.

It is time for a new beginning, you have all my information.

I had an interview many years back at Best Buy for the Geek Squad (when it first began). They asked me "If there where two clones of you with exactly the same background and everything, what sets you apart from the other two applicants?" my eye twitched, bled, and then I passed out.

When you passed out, they cloned you, and the 2 copies of Nastyman are still working for the Geek Squad to this day.

Yeah, philosophical questions like that suck balls and are pointless in my opinion. I've interviewed plenty of people over the years and I'd never ask something as redundant as that.

This was for a GIS analyst job for a place in cleveland asking to write a poem about your previous job and yourself. An ex-coworker made a poem for it too except he was trolling them pretty hard. And I quote:

Time relentlessly scorned by the meticulous movement of my mouse. Points...points...points...Must make the points that are required every harrowing hour. Time and Death are synonymous if points are not made. I must articulately create shapes and patterns on the mindless map imagery. Boredeom sets in. I take breaks when I am burnt out. PAYDAY!

Umm...... I somehow scored a job interview tomorrow.

In this case, I'm mostly wondering if I should expect the "What is your worst quality?".

I think I'll say that I lack practical Hands-On experience. That most of my education has just been "Academic" book work.

Yeah I think something like that is good for your "worst quality". I've given a couple job interviews myself this year and most of the time I get the same kind of bs answers to this question or "what is your weakness". Everyone always just turns it into a positive like "I'm too focused on my work I forget everything else", or "I seem to always be ahead of everyone else in my group so it's hard to work with people". Whenever I hear stuff like that all I smell is bs.
