Official Thread Sunset Overdrive

Another X1 exclusive. The games keep coming! Good to see Insomniac branching out to other platforms, but that Fuse game sure was lousy.

I only played the demo for fuse, and that wasn't encouraging. I do think they have fantastic ideas for weapons, though.

I tried the first two resistance games, but thought they were boringly mediocre. I did hear the 3rd was good.

Didn't have much face time with R&C- always came across as second fiddle to Jack and Daxter.

I am being cautiously optimistic for this because I dig the style, and the concept is intriguing.

Don't forget this article from January:

http://www.onlysp.com/sunset-overdr...currently-better-than-e3-trailer-graphically/

Microsoft’s Phil Spencer has seen Sunset Overdrive in action, and apparently it is “looking very good.” Spencer tweeted some of his observations of the game earlier today, revealing that not only is the gameplay looking “great”, but that, graphically, Sunset Overdrive is also looking wonderful.

Although what Spencer saw was only a daily build, apparently what he saw in action looked better than the already beautiful E3 trailer.

You can see both of the tweets below in context.

@Mushlikeahusky Saw great looking SO gameplay yesterday with@RealKLobb, game is looking very good.

@TuamJohn @Mushlikeahusky@RealKLobb I thought what I saw yesterday (just a daily built) looked better than E3 trailer.

Sunset Overdrive is an upcoming third person action game from Insomniac, featuring frantic online combat, as well as an offline campaign. It caught our eye atlast year’s E3, and, if the trailer is any indication, it should feature some fast paced fun for the Xbox One.

The official Twitter account for Sunset Overdrive also gave a slight update on when we’ll see new info or possibly new info on the game. In response to a question posted by another Twitter user asking how many “weeks or months”, the account replied with “they are getting fewer and fewer by the day.” The game is still planned for a 2014 release which was also noted by the Twitter account. Both of these Tweets can also be viewed below.

@sirvanquish they are getting fewer and fewer by the day. We're working really hard on the game!

Way too little details about this game, just like Fable Legend, & Quantum break....

Exactly. This and Quantum Break are getting so much hype and I just don't understand why. We don't know anything about them.

There's no reason NOT to be excited about these games until evidence suggests otherwise, kind of like being innocent until proven guilty.

I can think of two obvious reasons people are excited for Quantum Break and Sunset Overdrive.

1. Remedy
2. Insomniac

I have more confidence in Quantum Break ending up being excellent than Sunset Overdrive because of Remedy's past games. We'll see. I have a feeling we'll be pleasantly surprised by Sunset Overdrive. The style looks very fresh indeed.

I hope they decide to go nuts with character customization options. They said they were looking into it.

Holy s***...

Looking better than the E3 trailer? That already looked really cool, like a CGI pixar movie kinda. Hopefully the gameplay is fun too, cause then...we have something good to look forward to. Finally screenshots in May sounds good to me!!!

Do we even know what type of game this will be? Action/adventure, shooter, etc?

It is a third-person open-world shooter focusing on "agile combat" said to include wall-running, zip lines, and "acrobatics". The game is expected to use Microsoft's cloud computing to create a living world, where user feedback and ideas such as Internet memes, social commentary, new items, weapons, and characters can be quickly added. One of the game's themes is freedom and self-expression.

Ok, now that sounds awesome.

And from just after last year's E3 according to Ted Price,

"It's not just an open world," Price told us at E3 last week. "It's a living world. The idea is that we're updating the game on a regular basis. Not just updating it with stuff that we want, but also by what players tell us, and inspired by what players are doing in the game.

"Adding or changing weapons based on what players tell us is an opportunity we haven't really had during the current generation. Because if you want to put out regular updates, you have to jump through a lot of hoops. So our intent is not to just to offer new weapons, but new gameplay features that change up the environment.

"We want players to talk about what happens in the game, get really engaged and connected, because they never know what's going to happen, but they have an influence."

As well as,

According to Price, the developer's updates will "facilitate change on the small and large scale" - expect world events such as a new breed of enemy, or outbreaks of nasty weather. Intriguingly, Price would like to acknowledge real-world events, too.

At E3, I wasn't really impressed, honestly. The style has grown on me, with time. Kinda reminds me now of old arcade style artwork and yes, maybe a dash of old Sega too.

The evolving world is something I'd have expected already by now. It's actually that part that feels like something Sega was reaching towards with the Dreamcast concept, IMO. PSO and Christmas Nights seemed like building blocks for this kind of thinking. In the end, I feel like we ended up with only Warcraft knockoffs and such. I think this cloud thing has much more potential than people have in their heads.

Man..Phantasy Star Online and the Christmas Nights demo..those were the days..

I'll say i'm looking forward to this, but at the same time, there is that voice in my head telling me to take heed as it could turn out to be another Brink... and no one wants that.
How does this and Brink come to your head? We haven't even seen gameplay where Brink detailed it self out to the max prior to release.
