Super Mario Odyssey (Oct. 27)

From Famistu?

Yep. Not discrediting them but I would say the only site still hard to get a 9/10 from is edge. Famistu seems to have gone a bit easier over the years.

And of course edge gave it 10 anyways.

Mario Oddessy preload is up. Im away at work and wont be home for a few weeks but through the magic of the net Ive just bought and preloaded it on my Switch for my little girl at home.

Maybe they liked them?
i don't agree with giving any cod such a high score but that's me....
Seems only about 40 games made that list and that's not a lot...good to see a great game like Gears Of War 3 on it.

Game is pre-ordered from Best Buy and was hoping to hold off playing it for a bit but hnnnngg

It’s Nintendo vs Nintendo for GOTY. I’m happy for them, it reminds me of the SNES days. Can’t wait for tomorrow!!

And it’s probably too early to discuss, but are they blowing their load this year..? Do they have any big titles in the next 6 months?

Damn....now it’s at 97! Rare that a game goes up from its initial review scores.

Well, Ninty doesn't usually release more than one major Zelda/Mario/Metroid title per generation, so it's not unreasonable to suspect a drought to come. I'd rather have these release early in the generation though, as It give immediate incentive to pick one up, and increases the chance of getting another toward the end of the generation.

Yeah its been a while since a platform holder came out with not only 2 GOTY in the same year but 2 critically loved masterpieces within a calander year. Doesn't surprise me that its Nintendo.

As for next year, the Switch has a good number of great games in the pipeline for next year.

For me in 2018:

Multiplatform wise, Lost Sphear from the makers of I Am Setsuna, Indivisble, developed by Lab Zero Games, the studio behind the fighting game Skullgirls.

Exclusively they still have Fire Emblem for Nintendo Switch, A New Yoshi Platformer and a new Kirby game.
Project Octopath Traveler is also rumored to hit in 2018.

Further into the future, No more Heroes 3, Metroid Prime 4, and Pokemon for the Switch will hit.

Now while I don't think any of these games will have the same impact as a new Zelda and Mario dropping the same year, I still see alot on the horizon to be excited about.

Holy s***, 96-97, that's incredible. Damn, Nintendo. Sony took the first half of the year (minus Zelda), but you're definitely taking the second.

Once again hype levels were kept minimal until release day and now my body is Reggie.

Picked mine up at Best Buy quite a few people were there for it. Now I have to work until 5. So I’ll watch an episode of Stranger Things season 2 while I eat dinner and then it’s a Mario time.

Maybe not. Quite a few journalists seem to be of the opinion that they got sucked into the hype with Zelda and wouldn't rate it as high now.

Many are calling this the best 3D Mario with very few criticisms.

I think this maybe a toss up. Had Zelda come out now and Mario came out when Zelda did, I can see alot of people rating Zelda higher and having more criticisms of Mario.

Overall though, this is a good problem for Nintendo to be having. I've only played 15 minutes of Odyssey today and can tell the praise is well deserved.

That always happens with any highly acclaimed title -- some reviewers get swept up in the hype and, in retrospect, feel they over-rated it. It'll happen to Mario, too. Mario comes closer to the actual voting for GOTY, though, so it'll have an advantage.

I still think Zelda will take most of the awards, but who knows. Who cares, really. The main thing is that we've got two incredibly great games in one year.
