Super Smash Bros (Wii U) - Controls?

I went into the controls menu and setup the controls how I wanted, saved my profile and all. When I go play "Classic" mode though it appears that it defaults to the original controls and not the one I selected.

Can anyone help me out here?

When you are at the player select screen, you should be able to click on Player 1 or whatever it is and select your profile name. I don't know of a way for it to automatically select a profile.
