The last time I was excited for a Tetris game was around 2011, when Facebook added a competitive Tetris game called Tetris Battle. It wasn't long until I realized that there were players much, much more skilled than I was, and my win/loss ratio was about 1/50.

Ubisoft is actually bringing a whole new Tetris Ultimate experience to both new-gen consoles, the Xbox One and PS4, and it's release is right aroudn the corner. Coming out on December 16th for PS4 and December 17th for Xbox One, it will include 6 different modes that will alter the way you play Tetris.

Here is the list of Tetris Ultimate modes in the game:

  • Marathon – Complete level 15 and rack up as many points as you can.
  • Endless – Keep clearing lines until your stamina runs out.
  • Ultra – Race to score as many points possible before time runs out in this three-minute challenge.
  • Sprint – Clear 40 lines as quickly as you can.
  • Battle – Go head-to-head to knock out your challengers.
  • Battle Ultimate – Be the last person playing after using crazy power-ups! Go on the offensive with Carousel and make your opponent’s Matrix shift to the left after each move, or trigger Let It Rain and dump blocks down on top of them. Buzz Saw helps you advance by clearing away a number of your lines, especially useful when you’re in a spot of trouble.

So this is basically just like the last Tetris game on the 360 then? Looks like I'll have another Tetris game in the stable.

I haven't bought a Tetris game since.... NES Tengen Tetris! Too bad I had no idea it would be a collectible. Gave that game away to a relative!

If it's cheap, maybe I'll get it.

But playing some kind of Tetris game on PS3 with fam and 4 people playing some kind of Battle mode, it's weird. I'm pretty good at Tetris and am lining up 4-line Tetris lines asap. Other people are doing 1-2 line attacks fast, thus bombing all kinds of weird attacks on my board.

Turns out the best strategy to win in that battle mode is to be the fastest 1-2 liner. Going for triples or Tetrises is too slow to build up!

I heard Facebook actually has a real good Tetris game.

Plays game and sends everyone invites.
I wouldn't really know as I rarely go on fb. Just a guy I know said the Tetris on there is good. I'm sure there's multiple different ones though.

I'll have to check it out. I have to admit, if you simply ignore all the hard pushes on me to invite/share stuff, facebook has some fun games on there. I kinda got hooked. Best one is Dead Trigger 2, a FPS in the style of CoD Zombies or Killing Floor but just super simplified. I'll sing that games praises every chance I get! :)

Yeah there's probably some decent stuff in there. I do have to agree though, the invites are pretty annoying.

Yep and knowing Sega it will never get an official release out side of Japan.

I think that Ubisoft have the exclusivity on the Tetris licence now outside of Japan. EA had it for a while before.

Nintendo's DS and Game Boy versions on the eShop were delisted too.

Tetris stands the test of time man. I still love that game. That said, I think it'd be sweet if they had a first-person tetris. Even if I'd get sick from it.

May think about getting this. I love puzzle games....was a huge fan of a lot of the Xbox Live Arcade games like Astropop, Hexic, Zuma, Poker Smash, etc. I really wish I could have brought most of those games forward. Most of those games, with the exception of Hexic 2, I mostly player single player for...Hexic 2 was one of the few that had competitive multiplayer games.
