The 3D printing/Figurines/Minitures Hobbyists thread

And some people don't understand why gay people exist....lol obviously joking but clearly his ass is WAY better than hers, I love pancakes but only for breakfast lol.

Hit a major milestone ( I posted a mirror one at random thoughts)
I completed the digital part of the 3D print (unless there are issues in printing & I have to return to edit) . Next step is to print all the subparts

Here is a turntable. Its 1:6 scale. But its 3D print, so you can rescale if you want.

Here are the pieces breakdown.

Now its time to print the parts & ass-emble them together.

Here are the documented steps to make the joints & make the final STL files for print

Edit: I notice a few spelling/grammar mistakes but I think it's readable.

When the 3D prints are okay, I will put out the STL files for anyone who is interested to download. :)

Painting & kit modeling tools from Amazon & hobby shop

RGoN6PV.jpeg

Modeling tool kit (super value), super expensive fine brush (5.79€), putty, plastic glue from Revell, airbrush cleaning kit, Tamiya Acrylic thinner, Army Painter primer (grey) & airbrush medium.

PKYC75W.jpeg

Airbrush booth. It came with 3 LED light strips, & a turn table for 60€

Timbertech Air brush set, Army Painter paint set, & airbrush cleaner

First print. Took a wobbling 26 hours! I will hollow out the base for next print.

Direct out of the oven.

After 1 hour of cleaning.

Gonna take a well deserved short break (by that I mean the weekend) after working hard for a month. In the meantime, I am printing the other pieces.

A small video of work in progress.
I am new to this, so it's more a test video. I got a new tripod so I can make wokring video like this.

I will improve the setup starting with lighting, & I may need to get a real camera soon (record using iPhone 11). But feel free to comment.

Should have more footage if not for iPhone Fked me by just not allowed to upload any pic/video for reason....

Dude, that’s awesome, it even clicked into place.

The white spots area are where the supports were broken. They are ugly & required a lot of sanding. FDM printer are are hard for figurine/mini printing where details matters, but I am pushing what my monoprice voxel 3D FDM printer can do. Getting a high resolution large size resin printer is in the pipeline.

Anyway, the hairline plastics are NOT visible to the naked eyes (at least mine) until I took the photos. In any case I just ordered a 2.25x magnifying glass stand, as well as an extra primer & a nail polish rack (see picture below) (which I will use to hold my paint). Last but not leas, I also ordered a soundproof foam, so the sound (especially overnight print) from my printer does not reach my neighbors (I live in an apartment) next wall from the printer. At the moment I have a pillow between the printer & wall.

Once you started, you have to keep buying stuff! But I think I am almost done shopping minus (consumables) for a while until a resin printer no sooner than in year end holiday

This thread is looking like a daily blog. Anyway, please feel free to post anything to do with 3D printing & hobbies

Here are some new pics
CS67b6y.jpeg

Dining table double as a paint station. I went from never touching physical paint since high school art class to relearning painting & picked up airbrushing. Everything on the table (minus the scissors & papers) were bought within the last 6 weeks)

Some painted sub parts, ready to be dried

Lsm6s3J.jpeg

Updated printer with Sound insulation foam. I am sure they are normal form with pyramid shapes, but it supposely worlks, & cost8€, so I am not complaining. I also make a hole in the printer & got a filament mount so I can use bigger, cheaper, non-OEM filament rolls (like shown).

The details looks pretty rough in close up. But it looks better iRL at normal view distance (> 30 cm or 1 foot)& naked eye. Nevertheless, the limit of FDM 3D printers for surface quality is showing.

Took me 6 hours to paint this. The eyes were a bitch to paint, but thankfully I just bought a magnifying glass stand.

I think it was a mistake to take the video with bright sunlight as it killed alot of details that I painted. In any case, I will make a showcase when the model is fully painted & assembled. I ran out of primer & the one I ordered from Amazon has some issues (no idea what, Amazon gave a very vague statement along line of "problem with package, cancel order & we will refund you soon" ) & cancel the order. I have to reorder & new primer paint is expected to arrive on monday.

So far the Elegoo Saturn is my top choice for resin 3D printer. Its around 479€ at Amazon. I will focus on prints where surface qualioty matters with it, like Miniatures/figurines/statues, & my FDM Monoprice will focus on less surface quality dependence parts.

I just realised I forgot the star in the middle of the chest. Lol.

Well I have to return to add the star, but the silverlining is also a chance to fix lose joints by making them tighter for the upper body subassembly.

The good new is, the primer I ordered finally arrived. & I can continue poainting the rest of the 3 pieces left (the main base, lower body & upper body which need rework & reprint)

Fk. Sometimes I Fking hate myself.

Wasted 16 hours of print & filament & hours of work. I added the star finally but forgot the 2 rings around the shoulder.......

Only realized after 13 hours of print.......

How can someone be this careless?

I have now 3 fail prints (2 days worth of print time & maybe 12€ worth of filament) forthe same upper body subpart. Hopefullöy the 4th will be the last & I can fking finish this project, & upload the STL to share & move on.

This is so hard.

It's a learning process. This happens when all of us do something new.

And you, maybe, may want to make a “check off list”

I am not getting the supposed joke.

But anyway, I manage to get a good printout. Surprisingly, non hollowed version print faster (12 hours vs 16 hours). Also it's more stable as non-hollow used cross hatches internally which means less hairline plastic flying around that end up sitting on a layer & cause shearing line in the model.

While waiting for the print to be done, I manage to get some work done & finish the base. Took me about 4.5 hours.

On hindsight, I should have given the concrete a yellowish hue to give some color contrast from the grey metallic base. The "rocket flames" were a pain in the S to airbrush & I found my airbrushing skill wanting, but its a learning experience. Almost Everything in this project is a learning experience. But for someone who has never touched a physical brush since high school, I am pretty happy for what I have done, but of course, I will continue striving for improvement.

Also, the nail polish rack (which costs way less than dedicated fancy paint racks, & hold more paints ) just arrived & I finally can organize my paint. I am going to order another one, to hold more paints.

Wasn’t meant as a joke, we’ll kinda…passively, sorta, I guess. But the gif was more of an motivational/inspirational thing, like what plainview said, but a reinterpretation. But the lowercase part was just a suggestion, and didn’t want to come off like aggressive or assertive.

Anyways, awesome progress. Have you considered making a stand or separate one in which you can place your builds/prints to freely spin?

I see. Yes, a check off list will help greatly.

As far as stand, there are battery/wall socket operated stands (watch, jewellery, figures) on market which should work.

I can in theory make one, but that would be reinventing the wheel.

Final result!

Sadly the video does not do the iRL model justice. I will try to improve the lighting as well as get a motorized stand to make a better videos.
I am already tired after a day of hard work.

That’s firckn epic, awesome work there good sir.

As an artist to see work in the physical world is like an emotional experience. You must be feel relived too

you got anything planned for what you want to do next?

would you ever consider making a figuring of one of our own posters, badmonk would have my vote….IMO he deserves a a figure to capture his work.

thanks all, karmakid

I am not sure I understand. You want a figure of badmonk the person, or one of his work (which I feel bad that I am unaware of)
