The 3D printing/Figurines/Minitures Hobbyists thread

thanks all, karmakid

I am not sure I understand. You want a figure of badmonk the person, or one of his work (which I feel bad that I am unaware of)
Just do driedmongoose instead, here's some reference;

Final result!

Sadly the video does not do the iRL model justice. I will try to improve the lighting as well as get a motorized stand to make a better videos.
I am already tired after a day of hard work.

Fcking wow! That looks amazing. Great work you did there. I don't think I'd have the patience to work on a project like that. Great job!

Superman would get my vote for a figurine, starseeker. Or why not a Spiderman one for yourself?
For the next ones, I am hoping for for commercial figurines to be able to sell for a small sum. Someone/something popular but doesn’t have that much figures on market. Spider-Man and Superman are very popular and have already many amazing one on the market.

like maybe characters/ mobs from Diablo franchise since there isn’t much good quality figures on the franchise and the Diablo 2 is launching soon.

also Lara Croft since I have a classic Lara model that I stopped working a while ago.

I noticed the images are very noisy. I was wondering why but I finally discovered why. I used my phone to take the image & I have to take the image at a distance & use digital zoom. The reason I did not take the pictures closeup was that it will cause massive distortion of the figurine (fisheye effect).

Investment in a proper camera with the right lens is inevitable. Something to improve. My first choice right now is the Canon M50.

They may have an external pensé attachment for your phone, some that do macro shots really well too. I’m one to say to stay away from digital zoom because it just engages pixels, but sometimes it’s ok…

Digital zoom will introduce noise also. Use the longest non-digital zoom you have on your phone.

I meant to say digital zoom induced the noice. There is no optical zoom on my phoine (as far as I know), & any zoom is digital. If I close up, subject becoome overstretched (fisheye effect).

Only viable option to improve image qualty is invest in a good camera. Then I can use correct lens for the job. I never had a camera since I started using my first iphone, but its time to get one. I need one for video recording as well. I have like 2-3 GB on my phone so recording using my phone is a pain.

What phone do you have?

Regular 11 or 11 pro? Either way, you have a 2x optical. That's not going to distort anything.
Regular 11. The distorting was not due to the zoom, but taking a picture close up. The noice was due to the zoom. I went beyond 2x so there is certainly digital zoom. Maybe the first 2x is optical.

The 2x stop is optical and there should be no distortion. Just fill the frame with the model and crop as necessary.

That could work as well. Thanks. I never need big pictures since its mostly for use on web.

Anyway, I wanted to make a correction. Noise is not the right word (which is usually due to ISO). The word is artifacts or whatever it is called. The result of resize up a picture & the program try to interpolated the missing info to fill the bigger resolution.

Interesting. I can work with my phone (not end of the world) for now until I get my camera. I have a long list of stuff to buy & I need to be careful.
The zoom lense looks pretty interesting, for the relative low price.

Some stuff I wanted to get
Indoor lights for video
New Resin printer+curing station
Dedolf stand for display figures (not urgent) since I have a grand total of 1!
Camera
mountings for video setup

It will be at least 2 months (I am on holiday 3 weeks in Nov)+ until I have new 3D print models to work on, so there is time & possible good offfer during holiday season.

sigh.....
I tried to post my video to 3Dprinting subreddit but was automatically flagged for removal. The reason given was I was new & it was done to prevent spambots.
I need to wait 2 hours or get positive Karma to post anything.

So I waited over 2 hours, then repost the video, but got a message the video cannot be uploaded as it was posted recently & I have to wait 14 days......
WTF.

I wrote to the moderator & hopefully I can get it resolved. Sigh

I managed to "resolved" the issue. Basically, I made a new video just for Reddit & upload it directly from the file, which is incidentally better.

Link here. Upvote will be helpful:

I have the files available now on Pinshape (which has a 100mb file size requirement hence needing to split), & cults3D which accept bigger file so its one download (zip file)
You need an account but you can use your Facebook/google account if you so wished.

I think I need to take a breather. I have worked like a bee for 2 months now. Diablo 2 resurrected is out tomorrow & I will be playing to recoup my energy.

The next 3d Print project is kicking off

Classic Lara Croft 3D Print Project

FxHFhkK.png

Found an old Lara Croft 3D model I made many years back but never finished. I am going to make a 3D print or 2 out of this. Stay tune.

I will have my Holidays in 2 weeks, for 3 weeks, so I will not work as much, but I will go full steam after that. Not to mention I am super busy at work to meet end of Oct deadline before my holiday.
