The 3D printing/Figurines/Minitures Hobbyists thread

I never thought about that. Interesting question. Joy will come from people downloading this, to print & paint this & loving it.
I enjoy the painting part. It's a lot of work but very satisfying. Hopefully, much more talented people can create a better finish than me.

Anyway, The base is done

That’s beautiful, besides the plants, vegetation and paint, that’s all 3d printed and how long did it take you to complete that?

Yes, I used some miniature grass and paint. I threw in a bit of Sand and small wood chips as well.

Took me about 12-13 hours total, excluding the 3D print and filing post print.

The 3D print took about 20 hours. I have to print 4 parts ( 2 parts each print 2 times) due to the large size.

Very nice! I just ordered a resin printer myself. Gets here Monday. I'm looking forward to printing my own models soon (after, I'm sure, a good bit of growing pains). Never had a printer before, but I'm happy to start my printing journey!

If you need any tips, I can do my best to help. Which model did you ordered?

That diffused lighting 👍🤙is that sheet of paper textured as well?

Love all the lil specks go dirt and mud, do feel like maybe there should’ve been a tad more on her face, specifically on her left cheek, kinda looks like there may be some on there just needs to be maybe a lil darker.

Otherwise 10/10

It was a standard A2 size (I think) art white paper. The lights are different colors (couldn't get white lights at ikea) which creates unexpected 2 tone colors.
Other colors/textured paper may be considered in the future.

I was reluctant to add too much dirt/mud to her face. :tounge: In any case, I already clearcoat her with a matt varnish (to protect the paint), so no more painting.
But for anyone that downloads the STL files on websites (that I will upload), they are free to make Lara as dirty or clean as they wanted.

I decided on IMO a very value 10€/US$10 price tag, which will be affordable for most people, & IMO better than most STL models at this price range. Hopefully, I can have enough income in time (more 3D models & tools) & can do it full time.

I have more ideas than I have time, as I have a full-time job already. Commericalise my 3D print will hopefully make it a viable job.

WIth the project concluded, I will take a much need break for a couple of weeks, before thinking my next project.

I am thinking of simplier chibi-style (big head small body anime style) characters from pop culture & games like Squid game & everybody is dead.

I got the anycubic photon mono X on recommendation from my brother. Just came in. I'm still waiting on getting the resin.

I also bought a cleaning/curing station from Creality.

You have similar class printer (print size) like me, just that I have Elegoo Saturn S & Anycubic Wash & cure. What are the things you intended to print?

Still working on the hair, and needs a number of form tweaks, but it's a model of my fiancé I want to give her. Getting close to done with it. I'm sure the thin parts will be interesting to deal with, lol
You have some talent.

You will probbaly need to thicken the thin and long areas & have support. Resin is very brittle. YOu cando test printing & correct the araes that need corrections.

Thanks.. I'm definitely going to be doing lots of testing to see what I can get away with. I want the ribbon to act as a stand as multiple points touch the grounds so it looks like she's floating.

I'm a bit limited in polycount as well, since I'm using Blender. I used to have Z-brush, but I lost my key a few years ago.
Still, Blender is such an impressive program for being free. I learned 3d on 3ds Max, but I'll be damned if I'm going to pay a ridiculously high subscription every month. Same goes for Photoshop. I now use Affinity products and Clip Studio.

It's been a while since I've done some proper artwork. I'm a defense contractor so the "art" I do is just boring graphics work. The Idea of printing has gotten me kinda excited to get back into it.

I've done concept work for some failed game start ups too (a decade ago, lol). Stuff like this-

Is the hair, feet suppose to be suspended in the air? if so, does the ribbon strong enough to sustain the weight? Is this gonna be print in a single piece?

I have an idea you can consider (or not),. Make the ribbon from the actual ribbon, & wrap it around the 3d print model (you can use an aluminum wire to keep it in place). It could be easier & less prone to breaking. But its only a suggestion.

Also, a personal question, did you go to art school?

Yeah it's supposed to be suspended. I do worry with the ribbon. I have some thickness to it but it may not be enough. I'm probably going to have to sacrifice a bit if resin as I figure it out

Experimentation is part of the process. Do not be afraid to test. But instead of printing the full model, you can consider making smaller test pieces

Yeah I have my BA in media Art and Animation. Immediately joined the Army after college, lol. That was 20 years ago, almost.

Did they have you make maps? When they said I couldn’t fly, cos my eyes, that I could work at a desk :( sadly I didn’t join the Air Force after said news

Just cancel my Adobe plan. DO not want to pay 12€ per month & I already have Affinity Photo & Clip studio which I can use & but have no subscription service.

Nah, I went enlisted as a grunt, lol. Field Artillery. 155mm towed howitzers. Iraq we operated as a gun truck company doing combat logistical patrols (protected supply convoys).

That's me. I'm sick of all these stupid subscription software products. Love clip studio, but I'm still getting used to affinity. It's real close. I still use the Adobe suite at work (photoshop, illustrator, audition, after effects, etc)
