The Cell Phone Thread

Hmmmm,

I might be contemplating getting a new phone.

Problem is my budget is like $300 to buy the phone outright, it has to be android, it has to have a headphone jack.

I will probably buy it off ebay, maybe it's a display model or something, don't care I'll take the risk..........

What are the current best android phones with a headphone jack? I mean replaceable battery would be nice too, but I don't think anyones doing that anymore and that's ok.

Massive LG fan, but I kind of have their last flagship phone and it's been fantastic (and why I'm asking here, it was really under rated, and literally days after they announced they were no longer gonna make phones, ebay was flooded with "like new" LG Velvet 5G's for next to nothing)

I like to get 3-4 years out of a phone. I gotta look it up but it's maybe getting about that time for an upgrade.

HEADPHONE JACK is a must.

Thanks anyone who follows this more than me. I'll do some googling but it's hard to know if you're reading/watching something that is either sponsored, or they don't want to piss off a company that sends them free stuff to review so they basically hype it up.
I haven’t looked into it but maybe an older pixel phone, or galaxy?

Well I know I made a post basically asking someone to do the work for me...........

But obviously google is your friend.....

I think it's a OnePlus something. But I also need to dig deeper to make sure I'm as up to date as possible, but also getting a good deal.

I don't know, I just feel like there's something a little funky going on with my LG Velvet even though I love it, and just want to be prepared to make a purchase on a whim if I need to.

I don't know if that sounds dumb but I just want to get educated just in case this this goes tits up on me out of nowhere, which can happen, and is a very stressful situation, and I'm on a very very nice "bring your own phone" plan and would like to keep that going so It makes sense to just be prepared to have to buy a new phone outright but on the cheap, but also an awesome phone that you basically brag about.

I’m lazy too, and never been an Android fan, but I don’t knock it

It’s got a headphone jack

The thing there is the headphone jack.

It's unfortunately a must for me, it just is.

I'm not using an f'ing dongle on top of my headphones or the auxilary plug in my old ass car with a good old fashioned radio. I sometimes want to listen to music in my car and also power up my phone with a usb cigarette lighter hole thing.

Can't do that if I don't have the 3.5mm headphone jack on the phone.

So yeah I think it's a OnePlus........but which one.........or maybe my LG is fine not sure yet. Just doing some research and thought I'd ask for a bit of advice in case there's someone on here who really knows their stuff about phones with a headphone jack on it.

I get ya… I honestly prefer wired headsets, even now if I have to use a dongle adapter on my phone. And I miss my first phone, the iphone 5 with the headphone Jack.

That Samsung a15 seems good though. But I’m definetly not one to know the I s and outs of android phones. Maybe @Plainview @Videodrome @Nervusbreakdown @Dark Helmet @DarkPassenger @JinCA @Kvally

I'm actually still using a NOKIA Flip Phone. It does have an audio jack, but I never use it. Even for a basic flip phone, it has crude internet browser and Bluetooth though and I have a decent Headset to talk and drive.

For all my media / computing needs, I have a Samsung Galaxy TAB S7 Tablet ( ANDROID ) that is also on my Verizon account so it has internet everywhere. For music or podcasts, I'd Bluetooth to my car.

I get some people have older cars that might not even have Bluetooth, but if you have an AUX audio jack, I'm not sure why an adapter isn't an option. Unless your preference is using headphones while driving? 🤷‍♂️ Or the old car sound system doesn't sound good.

Or if the car audio sucks, get a decent set of Bluetooth headphones and / or a good portable Bluetooth speaker? I understand if you're reluctant to consider that because most of them are kind of sh;t and can't compare to what music should sound like in a car, but I think Bose or JBL might have decent alternatives. Yet, if the car's built in audio is crap, this might even be worth considering this anyway.

I already own that JBL bluetooth speaker.

I am not a fan of being forced to use bluetooth to "stream" essentially, music that is on my phone in a FLAC format, when there is nothing wrong with just using an analog cable that doesn't degrade the quality.

May sound snobby or something, but I'm not even coming from there. What is wrong with a 3.5mm jack? Like, why are they trying to do away with the tried and true thing?

Will I wake up tomorrow and guitars no longer have a 1/4 inch input to hook it up to your tube amp?

Problem here is, when you go looking for a new phone you kind of want the latest and greatest within your price range...........but they keep removing stuff that they now want to call "legacy" features. And yet in the PC world, motherboards almost always still have a PS2 connection for old mouse/keyboard.

I'm probably old man yelling at a cloud right now.

I basically agree with you; the simple cord to AUX was fine and didn't need to be 'fixed'. At some point though, I had a device that falling out of support and the upgrade options I was given didn't have an audio jack. I had to get something figured out for my work truck so I went with what I could get working.

At the time, my work truck didn't have Bluetooth, but my phone could send music out the USB with an adapter. This is a bummer though because it makes recharging unavailable. I eventually found a funky splitter adapter that could charge and allow an audio cable plug-in at the same time.

It's kind of funny, I think about recent online gaming trying it over Wifi and wonder about the advantages of remaining on Ethernet cord to the modem. It functions on Wifi, but I think it runs a little smoother on the cord connection.

That’ll be good for consumers, will probably be tricky for iPhone and Android phones that have a metal body.
Up until my current phone every phone I ever had you could swap the battery yourself. I think the last one I had was an LG V20, it was metal bodied.

It's not hard, they just got rid of that ability to sell more phone, or charge a bunch of money to replace the battery.

I love this. I wish the headphone jack could make a comeback too. Apple is going to be very annoyed with this haha.

Apple will probably be ok with it, they just keep to their design philosophy and it’ll be trickier for your average user with diy, and they’ll have to rent the tools to do so, have a third party to do it or just go straight through them

Nah I think the EU law will require that it is much more user friendly than that. But we'll see.

Obviously they're giving manufacturers time to retool their fabs and come up with redesigns.

But to me this is mega. Apple will try to fight to have the timeline extended so we'll see like I say.

Ordered a 15 Pro Max. ATT oddly offered to give me $350 credit for my iPhone X, despite it having a cracked front screen (happened recently).

I ordered my Pro yesterday. Should be here this week.

Transferring data from old iphone to new iphone is the absolute worst process. After hours of letting it "do its thing," it turns out that the new iphone ships with a bug that prevents the transfer. You have to cancel the transfer, then the new iphone will ask to update the OS. Then you can actually do the hours-long transfer.

Only took a few minutes to restore my iPhone backup from the cloud when I setup my iPhone 15 Pro on Friday. 4.3gb. 🤷‍♂️

I’m glad I got the Pro this time and not the Pro Max. I love the smaller phone.
