The End of the World: A Political Thread. A New Hope coming soon!

I think he's trying to convey a nuanced attitude to one of the most polarizing issues in politics.

I'm sure somewhere in there he also hopes that his UBI could make the difference if some people on a financial edge are deciding what to do if they think they made a mistake.

He should just say he would like to see less abortions. He shouldn't lie and claim anyone is celebrating them because he wants to score points with more conservatives by stealing their talking points.

The way some politicians and hardcore feminists talk about it I'd have to agree with him, it's a tricky subject but they make it all about someone trying to take over a woman's body when that's not the reason. I'm pro choice but I hate when people on my side say "this is a woman's issue and nobody else has a right to an opinion" the motivation behind people who are anti choice isn't to try and control women, they genuinely believe a baby is being killed but if you listened to the hardcore feminists on this issue they make it sound like it's all just about men and religious women trying to enslave their wombs or something. That's not even taking into account the fathers rights etc so it's just a serious issue that politicians should always talk about in a measured way.

That isn't a celebration though. Not even a little bit.

Saying some have bad messaging is fine but that isn't what he said.

When you see them standing there talking about it with crowds cheering behind them it can come across that way. They just replace the word abortion with "women's reproductive rights" and it gets loud cheers quite often.

It was talked about in a meaningful way, almost half a century ago when the courts settled the issue. Now it is just a right wing talking point and another part of the culture war that the right fights.

I'm married to a woman who's pro life (still a member of the party) and she is disgusted at what this thing has been twisted into by people.

There are still actual pro life people out there, but the majority are these bible thumping, pearl clutching, war on christmas types who want to tear up the 1st amendment and turn the US into a Christian theocracy.

The right still makes local laws that take health care away from women. It isn't just abortion, but a war on any kind of planned parenthood.

What Yang said is either stupid or desperate. He seems like a bright guy, so I'd guess the latter.

I know plenty of people who aren't religious in the least but are still anti choice because they don't want a baby killed, that's their view and I disagree with them but that's how they see it. There is no doubt that a lot of bible thumpers use it as an issue too and try to tie it into other things and that's just playing dirty no doubt about it.

As far as Yang's comments once again go back and watch candidates talk about female reproductive rights and listen to the passion in their voices and the crowd reactions, it's cheered wildly and while I know the cheering is more for keeping Roe v Wade as is it can come across when done poorly like they are cheering it on in a crass way.

Its neither. He is just out of his depth. Being a smart guy doesn't mean he is capable of speaking about every topic a Presidential candidate needs to. Its the reason he pivots back to UBI all the time.

He is a decent guy but nowhere near qualified

They are chanting Wall St Pete. He is enemy number 1 for Bernie supporters right now.

The only cheers he was getting were from the Pete section, everyone was either quiet or booing him Yang spoke at the same event and was cheered by most everybody.

Potentially more crimes (not that it matters anymore)

Cliffnotes: US gov't awards $10 billion contract to Microsoft over Amazon, after Trump has said "screw Amazon". Bezos also happens to own the Washington Post. Amazon's AWS is known as the market leader.

Not only is the lead great for Bernie but the rest of the field being jumbled up which just make it harder for a clear alternative to him to form.

LOL WTF. And Trump will still win Utah.

Two jokes I had, couldn't pick one so here's both:

"They can pick up a few extra wives while down there"
or
"Hope they can find a way around the wall"

This is the only thing that Democrats should be talking about in the general election.

Got my vote by mail ballot for the CA primary today, I wish we had ranked choice voting because I ended up voting for Bernie even though I really wanted Yang. I have a feeling Yang is going to be dropping out fairly soon so I wasn't going to waste my vote on someone I can't be sure will even be in the race by the time super Tuesday comes.

It's breaking well for him - the centerish lane is split four ways now with Biden faltering and klob and Bloomberg moving up, and it looks like he's pulling pretty far ahead of his only real progressive challenger (and Yang is his own subset).

This system is bullsh;t

I wonder how fast things would change under a Ranked Choice proper runoff so people voted for their favorite candidate knowing they could have a 'Plan B' fall back candidate.

Yea people would probably feel better about voting. Also need to get rid of the electoral college and delgates.
